Chapter Fourteen: Just give me a quick death!

Gu Jingchun's words left Chu Qianlan speechless.

"Besides this, is there any other reason?"

"Otherwise, why did you only come now?"

Lanxin couldn't bear to listen any longer and, feeling indignant on behalf of her young mistress, finally spoke up:

"It was clearly because the clothes you sent, Madam, didn't fit properly. Miss had already changed into them, but because they were too small, she was afraid that people would laugh at her in the palace and that she would lose face for the Marquis's mansion, so she changed out of them."

It's all thanks to the young lady's quick thinking in preparing the clothes in advance; otherwise, we wouldn't know if we could even set off now.

"Miss clearly always puts the Marquis's family first, so how did she become such a rude person in Madam's eyes?"

Chu Qianlan was also somewhat surprised upon hearing this.

"The clothes don't fit properly, how is that possible?"

"I clearly instructed the embroiderer to make it according to the measurements, so how could it be wrong?"

She paused after saying that, as if she had just remembered something.

Gu Jingchun had only been back at the manor for a few days, so how could she possibly have her measurements? She clearly gave instructions for Gu Yunjin's measurements.

Immediately, a hint of embarrassment crossed her face, and she quickly explained:

"This... perhaps the embroiderer made a mistake. I'll settle accounts with them after I bring them back. There's no time now, let's go to the palace first."

As she spoke, she pulled Gu Yunjin into the carriage.

The two got into the carriage with perfect coordination and practice; neither of them asked her if she wanted to get into a carriage.

Gu Jingchun chuckled and boarded another carriage.

She was happy to have her own carriage and could finally rest properly on the road, since she had been busy since early morning and was quite tired.

However, Gu Jingchun did not notice that Chu Qianlan gave the housekeeper a wink after she got into the car.

The butler nodded, and after they left, he immediately closed the door and went to make arrangements with a cold face.

Meanwhile, in the palace...

In the dimly lit dungeon, screams echoed incessantly.

The sound of whips cracking could be heard continuously, interspersed with the sizzling sound of flesh burning, sending chills down one's spine.

In this dimly lit environment, a person dressed in a black robe embroidered with gold sat upright.

He sipped his tea calmly, his posture comfortable and serene, as if he couldn't hear the screams, and his whole being exuded a noble and aloof aura.

After the screams, someone rushed over and bowed respectfully, saying, "Your Highness, the person has already fainted."

Upon hearing this, Shen Hechuan casually twirled the ring on his finger.

"Since he's unwilling to talk, then kill him."

The person who came suddenly looked up, as if in disbelief.

After all, we finally managed to capture this person; are we just going to kill him?

But Shen Hechuan continued to speak slowly.

"I've heard that there's a way to die called the skinning and tendon-pulling method."

"This method involves first tearing off the person's skin, then cutting off their flesh bit by bit, and finally pulling out their tendons. The person must remain conscious throughout the entire process to ensure the tendons remain intact. Why don't you arrange this method of death for him?"

Upon hearing this, the man swallowed nervously before cautiously making the arrangements.

A moment later, the man hurriedly ran back.

"Your Highness, the person has confessed."

He then presented the confession that he had just recorded.

Shen Hechuan took it and looked at it for a few moments before slowly standing up.

"Alright, just give me a quick death!"

Half an hour later, Shen Hechuan arrived at the entrance of Shou Kang Palace.

He didn't wait for anyone to announce his arrival and strode inside.

The Empress Dowager was having breakfast when she saw Shen Hechuan enter, and she waved to him.

"You're here. Have you eaten yet?"

"The imperial chef made lily bulb and lotus seed soup today; it tastes quite good. Would you like to try some?"

Shen Hechuan had just come out of the prison cell and, fearing that his scent might offend the Empress Dowager, took two steps back.

"I've already eaten, Grandmother, please eat first."

Upon hearing this, the Empress Dowager glanced at him.

"Don't think that just because you take two steps back I can't smell the blood on you. You must have just come from the prison. You don't have time to eat breakfast."

He then ordered someone to bring him another serving.

Shen Hechuan then sat down and picked up a spoon.

But after taking just one bite, he frowned and put down his spoon.

Upon seeing this, the Empress Dowager chuckled smugly.

"You don't like it?"

Shen Hechuan nodded.

"You have to eat it even if you don't like it. This is your punishment!"

"Don't think I don't know what you're up to."

She smiled as she spoke.

"I know without you saying it. You'll definitely say that you came here at this hour just to see me, and then tell me that you have something urgent to do later and can't celebrate my birthday with me!"

Upon hearing this, Shen Hechuan's breath hitched, and he nearly choked. He looked at the Empress Dowager with a look of shock.

She was right; that was exactly what he was planning.

"snort!"

The Empress Dowager put down the spoon and snorted coldly.

"Don't think you can escape today by using these methods!"

I can not force you to choose a crown princess, but you should at least take a look. There are so many noble ladies in the capital; what if you find one you like?

Upon hearing this, Shen Hechuan felt quite helpless.

“Grandmother, I really have urgent business to attend to today and I must leave the palace in a little while.”

When have you ever not said that?

"You should tell me that last year when I celebrated my birthday, I wanted you to accompany me, but you ran away as soon as the noble ladies entered the palace."

“Grandmother, it was Father who summoned me that time.”

"And what about this time?"

"I've already told your father, and he definitely won't summon you again this time."
