Chapter Fourteen: Just give me a quick death!

"This matter involves spies from an enemy country, and it is of utmost importance. Your Majesty, I have just uncovered some clues and must go to arrest them, otherwise it will be detrimental to our Great Cheng!"

"Hmph, yet another high-sounding reason that this old woman can't refuse!"

"You're just trying to fool this old woman!"

The Empress Dowager was also quite helpless.

"Okay, you can go out, but you need to come back as soon as possible."

"Otherwise, I'll choose three concubines for you first, and then we'll see what you have to say."

"Grandmother, please forgive your son. You know my situation. You're just making things difficult for me!"

"What's the problem?" The Empress Dowager raised her voice.

"Don't you see what the situation is like now? If you don't make plans soon, it might be disadvantageous for you once your father bestows a marriage upon you!"

The Empress Dowager sighed softly as she spoke.

“Your father has always favored Prince Rui and his mother. It is only thanks to the protection of the court officials that your position has not been touched. But if he knew about your situation, he would probably be the first to depose you.”

The Empress Dowager sighed softly, her tone softening slightly.

"If you are unwell, you should find a way to get treatment. What good will running away do?"

As the Empress Dowager spoke, she glanced at Shen Hechuan's expression and cautiously probed:

"I know that you met a woman when you were fighting in the war a few years ago. Tell your grandmother the truth, is your illness related to that woman?"

Upon hearing this, Shen Hechuan's expression immediately turned cold.

He stood up.

“Grandmother, please don’t make wild guesses. I was just injured and found an inn to recuperate. There was no woman involved.”

"It's getting late, I'll be setting off now."

"Your grandson wishes Your Majesty good health, longevity, and a long life."

After saying that, he turned and strode away.

The Empress Dowager, however, sighed softly as she watched him leave.

"Try to find out what happened back then."

"Remember, be careful not to alert the Crown Prince."
