Chapter Two: The Family Reunion Banquet

Today is a big day for the Yong'an Marquis's mansion. It is said that their long-lost daughter has been found.

The Marquis's mansion prepared a grand family reunion banquet for her. The servants were busy from early morning, and the place was decorated with lanterns and colorful decorations, making it a lively and festive occasion.

The area in front of the Marquis's mansion was bustling with activity, and the ladies of noble families were all eagerly awaiting the arrival of this true daughter raised in the countryside.

Someone spoke in a low voice.

"What do you think the young lady from the Yong'an Marquis's mansion, who has been living in the countryside for eighteen years, will look like?"

"What else could he be like? A child raised by a wet nurse is probably not even as good as the old women in our village!"

Some people looked disdainful.

"It's a good thing for Gu Yunjin. She was raised like a real princess, with a life of luxury. She's proficient in everything from music and chess to calligraphy and painting. No wonder the Yong'an Marquis's mansion is unwilling to let her go. If it were me, I wouldn't want to marry my carefully raised daughter to that foolish third prince either."

The other lady looked surprised when she heard this.

"No wonder the Yong'an Marquis's mansion is willing to expose its own wounds to make such a big fuss. It is probably to take this opportunity to directly replace the real daughter with the Third Prince."

"No wonder people say that Marquis Yong'an is heartless; this is his own daughter."

"So what if she's my biological daughter? I didn't raise her myself, so what feelings can I have for her? But that fake heiress, I heard that the Marquis of Yong'an originally wanted her to become the Crown Prince!"

The ladies suddenly realized.

"No wonder Marquis Yong'an is in such a hurry, it turns out it's for a spot in the Crown Princess selection in a few days!"

As the ladies were talking, a servant rushed in.

"Madam, Master, Miss is back, but..."

Before the servant could finish speaking, a lady dressed in elegant attire hurriedly stood up.

"Now that she's back, let her come in quickly!"

"But……"

The servant looked around at the people around him, unsure whether he should say what he was going to say or not, and could only look to Marquis Yong'an, Gu Wei'ang, for help.

Gu Wei'ang, in his forties, had sharp eyes and an imposing presence. He glared at the servant.

"Stop talking nonsense! Let the young lady in right now. Don't you even know the most basic rules?"

Seeing the murderous look in the eyes of the Marquis of Yong'an, the servant disregarded everything else, immediately agreed, and hurried off to deliver the message.

Soon, a woman walked over from a distance.

Everyone looked over quickly and saw a woman in the distance wearing a sky-blue, dark-patterned, wide-sleeved dress with a flying phoenix hairstyle, her hair tied up with a jade hairpin, slowly walking over.

She walked with a graceful sway, but the hair ornaments on her head remained perfectly still.

As they approached, everyone noticed that the woman had a pair of beautiful crescent-shaped eyebrows, beneath which were a pair of bright and charming eyes that seemed to have hooks in them, making it hard to look away.

Coupled with her radiant white skin, a collective gasp arose as soon as she approached.

That appearance, that aura.

Anyone with eyes can see that she is much more beautiful than Gu Yunjin.

The Marquis of Yong'an and his wife had not expected Gu Jingchun to be so handsome, and they immediately felt a pang of regret.

It's such a pity that someone with such looks would marry a mentally challenged third prince.

With a little training, she could even marry the second prince.

After all, what men love is nothing more than a pretty face.

Gu Jingchun stepped forward and curtsied to the Marquis of Yong'an and his wife at the head of the table.

"Daughter Gu Jingchun pays respects to her father and mother."

The voice was clear and pleasant to the ear, and the bowing was dignified and proper, without the slightest mistake.

Madam Gu, Chu Qianlan, nodded in satisfaction, but felt an increasing sense of regret.

Just then, Gu Jingchun said something else.

"Xier, quickly greet your grandfather and grandmother."

As soon as he finished speaking, a little boy dressed in the same sky-blue clothes knelt down.

"Xier greets her grandparents and wishes them good health and happiness."

The moment the babyish voice rang out, the Marquis of Yong'an and his wife were dumbfounded, as were everyone else present.

Their attention was focused on Gu Jingchun, and they overlooked the fact that she was carrying a three- or four-year-old toddler.

Madam Gu was shocked.

She pointed at the child and spoke in a trembling voice.

"Whose child is this...?"

"Naturally, it's my daughter's child."

Gu Jingchun spoke.

"Where is the child's father?"

Gu Jingchun immediately covered his face and wiped away his tears, sobbing softly.

“My daughter has a hard life; Bao’er’s father passed away early.”

Upon hearing this, Madam Gu subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief.

But before he could catch his breath, he had to take another one.

She exchanged a glance with Gu Wei'ang.

Even if the Third Prince is an idiot, he shouldn't raise someone else's child!

Madam Gu immediately felt a pang of regret. If only she had known, she wouldn't have made such a high-profile move.

That way they could have secretly disposed of the child, but now, with so many ladies in front of them, the news couldn't be suppressed no matter how hard they tried.

******

On the street.

A group of people hurried past.

At the very front of the procession, a man sitting high on his horse, dressed in a tight-fitting outfit, coldly surveyed everyone who passed by.

His gaze was arrogant, and every gesture he made carried the air of someone in a superior position.

But his gaze suddenly stopped when it swept over an ordinary carriage.

Upon seeing this, his subordinate Tianji immediately spurred his horse and followed.

"Your Highness, is something amiss?"

Shen Hechuan shook his head.

Her gaze was fixed on a bouquet of flowers on the carriage, but her thoughts drifted away.

What kind of flower is this?
