Chapter 334: All Old Friends

Chapter 334: All Old Friends

An Yan never cared about things like makeup. She had always been simple, and even her clothes were based on convenience. She didn't wear complicated or luxurious clothes. She had never even worn the city lord's clothes.

But today she was wearing rouge and red lips. She wore a golden crown and the city lord's finery: an ancient seven-layered dress. Despite its layers, it was light and thin, and the combination of orange and purple accentuated her elegance.

Yan Qingqiu seemed to be meeting her for the first time. He never knew that her face was also like a fake one, so beautiful that it was impossible to look away. What was that stunning fake face? It was not as beautiful as hers.

The old man was also extremely surprised, but instantly became happy again and said, "Let Li Rongsen regret it. It was a huge mistake for him to choose that woman."

An Yan did not answer and went to the main hall in front.

Li Rongsen and Lingxian were already standing there waiting, each seemingly having their own thoughts.

Many servants came in one after another, all dressed in gorgeous ancient clothes, holding treasures in their hands, and standing in two rows.

Walking behind was An Yan, who came over slowly.

Li Rongsen couldn't help but pay attention to her, but the more he looked at her, the more sad he felt.

Lingxian was scared. Although she thought she was Li Rongsen's true love, she was afraid of An Yan. Who wouldn't be attracted to her? She couldn't help but hold Li Rongsen's arm to give her some sense of security.

Although Li Rongsen was reluctant, he did not shake her off.

An Yan gave Li Rongsen a smile when she passed by him, but it was a kind of unfamiliar politeness.

This smile was so dazzling that it made Li Rongsen seem a little unsteady. He and she were so far apart.

Yan Qingqiu followed behind An Yan, feeling a little unhappy.

An Yan turned around and said, "I heard that Mr. Li has chosen his sweetheart, so naturally I have to send her a gift. Not only that, but I also want to give her a generous gift. I want to thank Mr. Li for his past contributions to Xicheng. I hope you have a bright future and a long and happy marriage with your new wife."

"Thank you, City Lord." Lingxian was naturally happy and held Li Rongsen's arm tighter.

An Yan naturally noticed this action, but she pretended not to see it.

The old man came up with a scroll, spread it out in front of An Yan, and said, "Please ask the City Lord to remove the name. From now on, Li Rongsen has no connection with West City anymore. Let's go our separate ways."

The last sentence "The bridge is the bridge, the road is the road" was added by the old man himself. He was just full of hatred and couldn't help but glance at Li Rongsen fiercely, cursing him in his heart as an ungrateful person.

Yan Qingqiu suddenly asked: "Li Rongsen, do you really like this woman?"

An Yan raised her eyes and looked at Li Rongsen. When their eyes met, she had the urge to keep him, but the mark under her collarbone reminded her not to be willful, unless she really could ignore it. She also noticed that Li Rongsen's eyes were so calm, without any ripples.

Maybe he really found the love of his life, which might not be a bad thing.

Li Rongsen finally smiled. He placed one hand on the back of Lingxian's hand and said gently, "She is the one I chose. How can I not like her?"

These words were like a knife cutting deep into An Yan's heart, more painful than the mark, and she moved her lips unconsciously.

Lingxian was also extremely gentle when looking at Li Rongsen. She finally got him. This was fate.

Yan Qingqiu rolled her eyes and saw that An Yan had already stretched out her hand and placed it on the roll of paper. She paused for a moment and saw the three words "Li Rongsen" turned into a wisp of smoke and slowly disappeared.

The old man sighed secretly. He really couldn't accept that such a good person was abducted by someone else.

"I'll take you out of the city." An Yan withdrew her hand and walked forward.

Yan Qingqiu snatched the scroll and stuffed it into Li Rongsen's arms, saying, "Here, I'll keep it for you as a souvenir. You can look at it from time to time, and you can even write a few words on it."

Lingxian took it and said, "I'll keep it for him."

Yan Qingqiu stared at Lingxian for a while, then said meaningfully, "If I get the chance, I'll definitely beat you to pieces."

Lingxian pursed her lips and was about to ask Li Rongsen to stand up for her, but she saw that he had already walked forward. He wanted to walk a distance alone with An Yan.

From now on, the person walking behind her will not be me.

Lingxian wanted to follow Li Rongsen, but was stopped by Yan Qingqiu. He said, "Don't worry, he will go with you anyway. Why don't you let them be alone for such a short distance?"

"You are so nosy. What woman would allow her husband to go with another woman?"

"You two haven't gotten married yet, and he's still single." Yan Qingqiu just grabbed her arm and refused to let go.

Lingxian was speechless and had to give up.

The weather today is very good, with warm sunshine and a pleasant breeze.

The red silks fluttered all over the city, as if in joy and sorrow.

Li Rongsen was only one step away from An Yan. He wanted to ask Wen Jiaer whether he treated her well, but he felt that it was unnecessary. He also wanted to give her some advice, but he felt that he was not qualified.

The long alley finally ends, and the city gate is just ahead.

Li Rongsen felt that he should say something, so he finally said, "An Yan."

An Yan felt sad when she heard him calling her name. She didn't respond immediately. After a while, she said, "I'm here."

"Let's forget each other."

The wind blew through her hair, and the slightest touch on her face made An Yan feel painful. She raised her eyes to look at the sky, but the sunlight was blinding. She lowered her head again and uttered a single syllable: "Hmm."

Li Rongsen said nothing more.

The two people walked in silence, one in front and one behind.

The big door in front slowly opened.

An Yan stopped at the city gate and saw Lingxian quickly following. She tugged at Li Rongsen's clothes again and said, "City Lord, you don't have to see me off. We'll go back now."

"Take care on your journey." An Yan said calmly.

Li Rongsen was the first to get on the carriage, but Lingxian still had something to say to An Yan. She said, "An Yan, as a human being, you must accept your fate. Don't worry, I will treat Li Rongsen with all my heart."

"You can get out now. Are you annoying? What happens between you from now on has nothing to do with us in Xicheng, let alone Anyan. Even if you beat Li Rongsen to death, we can't do anything about it." Yan Qingqiu was really angry with this woman. He was really fed up with her.

Lingxian snorted at him and said, "I was thinking of inviting you to the wedding."

"Please invite me when you hold the funeral." Yan Qingqiu almost blurted out.

"You bastard, what are you talking about? Who are you cursing?" Lingxian said and went to hit Yan Qingqiu.

An Yan grabbed her hand, then shook it off and said, "You can go now."

Lingxian straightened her clothes and got on the carriage.

Yan Qingqiu stood beside An Yan and said, "Look how proud this woman is. Why can't we tear her into pieces?"

An Yan didn't respond and went back to her room. She dismissed everyone and lay on the couch to think. Then she got up and went to the room where Li Rongsen lived. She looked around and found that he didn't take anything with him.

There were several documents piled on the desk. An Yan sat down on the chair and picked up the documents to look through them. They were all about the future planning of Xicheng, and there were also some miscellaneous books.

There was a small booklet under the pen holder. She took it out curiously and looked through it. She found that the first page read: Stories in Dreams, for An Yan to write a book.

The second page describes how, on a visit to his residence that year, he was blocked by a kite in a tree. The siblings were assassins; one was pierced by arrows and left hanging on the city gate, while the other's whereabouts remain unknown. That September, he ascended the throne and married his new queen.

There are only three words on the third page: King Ren De.

An Yan was stunned. It was actually him.
