Chapter 381 I can’t get out
As soon as An Yan finished speaking, dozens of maids came in one after another, holding wooden plates in their hands and standing under the tree in turn.
An Yan placed the wooden plate in her hand on Lingxian's table and said, "I'll go now."
"An Yan, you can't use energy." Lingxian reminded her again and again.
An Yan asked again: "Where is that place?"
Lingxian waved his hand, and the paper on the table flew into the air, and the terrain on it was printed out, emitting a white light.
An Yan remembered it and immediately turned around to walk out.
But the fairy called her back and said, "If you can't get water, stay there and come back when you can."
"I understand." An Yan walked out calmly.
Lingxian raised the corners of her mouth slightly, and sat down again to write, thinking that it was really interesting to have An Yan serve as her servant, which was definitely better than those maids outside.
But she also blamed herself for being incompetent, and ended up losing Li Rongsen in this life. She had to get rid of this anger no matter what.
An Yan was walking on the road, neither hurried nor slow.
The place where Lingxian lives is neither big nor small. If you want to walk from one end to the other, it will naturally take some effort. However, An Yan cannot use energy and can only walk on his two legs.
Fortunately, she was in a good mood and just thought of it as a place to enjoy the scenery. She walked until dusk before reaching her destination. It was a shabby courtyard with a tall tree in the middle. There was a house inside, but it was very shabby and could barely provide shelter from the wind and rain. There was also a well next to the wall.
An Yan looked over there and saw that it was already very deserted, with not even a drop of water. She thought to herself that she was too lazy to go back, and besides, she had just said that she couldn't go back empty-handed.
"Who is it?" The voice sounded very old and contained a chill.
"It was Lingxian who asked me to come and fetch water." An Yan said as she walked into the house. The furniture inside was complete, but it was broken and old. The bed seemed to be tidied frequently, so someone must be living here.
"You shouldn't come here, especially since it's dark." The voice appeared again.
An Yan turned around to look for him, but didn't see anyone.
"Go in and turn on the lights in the room." the voice ordered.
"Who are you?" An Yan asked as she went into the room to light a lamp. There was only an oil lamp there, and it was very dim, but she could see some things clearly.
And in the next moment, An Yan found that there was someone sitting opposite her. It was an old woman who looked to be over eighty years old, but she was very agile.
"Who sent you?" you asked.
"Lingxian, she asked me to come and get some water."
"Where does the water come from? There is only resentment here." As soon as the old woman finished speaking, a lot of black smoke gushed out of the well in the yard, spreading to the entire yard and into the house.
The old woman waved her sleeves and closed the door, thus blocking the attack of the black fog.
"What are these things?" An Yan was a little confused. As she looked towards the door, she found that there were strange shapes reflected there, and there were also some creepy sounds coming from it, such as crying and screaming.
"She asked you to come here to fetch water, clearly just to tease you. This place is filled with lingering resentment, and the well in the courtyard is there to seal them off, so they can come out for a while at night.
An Yan lowered her eyes. She was not surprised that Lingxian was teasing her like this. At this time, the voices outside became more and more tragic, as if many dissatisfied voices had gathered together.
"There used to be water, but since these foul air were placed here, there is no water anymore," said the old woman.
"The spirit fairy insisted that I fetch water, so I have to fetch it. Otherwise, it would be difficult for me to go back."
"How do you get it?"
"Shouldn't we clear out these foul air first?" An Yan asked her.
"How is that possible? Do you know how much foul air from countless generations has gathered here? I have been here for decades. If I hadn't suppressed them every day, it would have been out of control. They would have gone out to harm people and cause chaos in the world." The old woman looked down on An Yan.
An Yan was not annoyed. She said, "Let me think of a solution."
"Stop talking. I'm going to perform a ritual." The old woman said as she began to meditate.
An Yan naturally did not disturb her, but just sat aside and watched quietly. After half an hour, she found that it began to quiet down outside, and the creepy sound gradually faded away, along with the black fog, and returned to the well.
The yard outside became bright again, and no one knew what illuminated it.
The old woman also woke up from her meditation. She waved her sleeves again, and the door of the house opened. It was the tree in the middle of the yard that was shining. It seemed as if many lanterns were hung on it, illuminating all the places.
The old woman said, "This well originally contained the sweetest spring water, the best living spring here. If it weren't for suppressing this foul air, it wouldn't be wasted. But if this well isn't used to suppress it, these foul air will have nowhere to go."
"Where does this foul air come from?"
"It comes from people's hearts." The old woman said as she stood up and went outside. She had brought a few buckets of water when she came just now and was now moving them in.
Seeing her like this, An Yan also stood up to help her.
The old woman said, "Why don't you leave?"
"If I can't get water, I can't leave. I have no choice but to stay here tonight."
"Then you won't be back anytime soon." The old woman laughed and added, "No one wants to stay with me, but now you're willing. I'm not lonely anymore."
An Yan said nothing, she would find a way. She then asked, "Is this turbid air also considered karma?"
"Okay." The old woman nodded, then began to take out dishes from the cupboard, and took two pairs of chopsticks. She said, "I don't have much to eat here. I only have dried sweet potatoes and steamed buns. Do you want some?"
"Okay, I don't mind." An Yan nodded.
The old woman put everything on the table, and when she was done she said to her, "Come, come and eat. Don't be polite to me. It's not a good thing."
"How did you get here?" An Yan was a little curious.
"I didn't come here willingly," the old woman sighed, taking a bite of a dried sweet potato. "A spirit spirit brought me back from the outside, saying she'd find me someone if I could help clear the foul air out of this well. But I've been here for decades, and it's all in vain. There's no way to completely eliminate it, so I have no choice but to stay here."
"Did you sign an agreement with her?" An Yan asked.
"That's right, my name is here and I can't leave." The old woman sighed again.
An Yan said: "Let me think of a solution."
"You're so young, what have you been through? What can you come up with? You can't even protect yourself." The old woman seemed unconvinced and added, "Well, accept your fate. I've already accepted it. I can't beat that little girl."
An Yan didn't say anything, but just thought of a solution in her mind.
The old woman continued, "If I could leave here, I would go to West City. I heard it's the best place to retire. The city lord is very kind and never oppresses the people in the city, which is very good."
"Okay, if you get out of here, I'll take you back to West City." An Yan agreed.
The old woman burst into laughter when she heard her words and said, "What a lovely girl! You should take care of yourself first. The spirit fairy must have a grudge against you and doesn't want you to have an easy life."
An Yan lowered her eyes and said nothing. She did not doubt this, but she was not someone who could be easily fooled. She would find a way to make living water come out of the well.
