Chapter 1: Without hope, there will be no disappointment.

Bang!

The door was shoved open, and a beautiful woman rushed in, arms crossed, her face full of anger.

"Lu Yi, it's just a stained shirt, why are you blaming Lu Han?"

The boy behind her had his head down and was pulling on her arm with a pitiful expression.

"Fourth Sister, it's my fault. I didn't see the white shirt in the washing machine before I threw the curtains in to wash!"

Lu Yi held his forehead, a sudden, inexplicable pain causing his back to stiffen instantly.

I'm back again?

As he flexed his wrists, Lu Yi's gaze sharpened, landing on the indistinct shirt at the foot of the bed.

In his previous life, he was lost by his family and grew up with adoptive parents.

The adoptive mother suffers from a congenital disease and is unable to have children.

My adoptive father was a factory worker who supported his family of three with a fixed salary.

Although they weren't exactly poor, they lived a happy and harmonious life.

Unfortunately, this happy time did not last long. When Lu Yi was twelve years old, both of his adoptive parents passed away.

Lu Yi lived alone for five years with the little savings left by his adoptive parents.

Late one night six months ago, a police officer in uniform, accompanied by members of the neighborhood committee, suddenly brought Lu Zhengming and Qin Fengying to their door.

Looking at the official paternity test report, Lu Yi suddenly felt a lump in his throat.

It turns out that his adoptive parents had been searching for his biological family before they passed away.

In front of the police and neighborhood committee members, Qin Fengying tearfully recounted her painful experience of searching for her son over the past few years, and offered to help Lu Yi pack his clothes, saying she wanted to take him home.

Lu Zhengming expressed his deepest gratitude to the police officers.

Looking at the scenes that had appeared countless times in his dreams, Lu Yi felt as if he were dreaming, so unreal.

But one thing is certain.

His adoptive parents couldn't bear to see him live a lonely and miserable life, and now their wish has finally come true.

Lu Yi put his adoptive parents' portraits into his schoolbag and reluctantly got into the car.

But when Lu Yi actually returned to the Lu family, he was surprised to find that someone had already taken his place.

The Lu family's house wasn't a cramped two-bedroom apartment, but a luxuriously decorated detached villa.

The older sisters are all slender and lovely, and the younger brother is fairly good-looking.

They all appear to be very well-mannered rich kids, so they should be easy to get along with.

However, this is not the case.

The Lu family's biological son was found, which should have been a joyous occasion, but the Lu family didn't even prepare a proper reunion dinner.

Even more outrageous is...

Lu Yi was assigned to a bungalow behind the villa, where the conditions were even worse than those in the maid's room in the main building.

He is not allowed to go upstairs at will, and he can only share the bathroom with the family's driver.

His younger brother, Lu Han, seemed close to him, but behind his back, he often played tricks on him.

His older sisters were arrogant and always found some excuse to scold and reprimand him.

His biological parents seemed to have changed completely, no longer the kind and gentle people who had taken him home.

That day, he was about to take a shower, and after unplugging the power cord, he realized he had forgotten to bring a towel.

When he returned and turned on the tap, a strong electric current quickly spread from his palm, and his heart suddenly clenched.

His body stiffened uncontrollably, and then he fell straight to the ground.

Only now did he fully understand.

To the Lu family, his own child was probably already a burden that everyone wanted to get rid of!

Everyone probably wishes he had never appeared!

Lu Yi did not cry for help, nor did he struggle.

"It's better to die like this. Death will bring peace and quiet, since nobody cares anyway!"

Unexpectedly...

His heart died, but his body lived on!

This lifetime!

Lu Yi did not want to repeat the same mistake and let his life end so quickly and tragically, thus failing his adoptive parents' kindness in raising him.

He threw away all those unattainable desires!

Get everything back!

Taking a deep breath, Lu Yi ignored his fourth sister, Lu Baoyun, whose eyebrows were raised in anger.

He casually picked up the scissors on the desk and cut the shirt into pieces, inch by inch.

He tossed it in front of her, his voice as cold as iron.

"You're right, it's just a ruined shirt, how could Lu Han be wrong? The fault lies with that damn washing machine!"

Lu Baoyun stared in disbelief, her mouth agape for a long time without uttering a single word.

...

This is no ordinary shirt.

Instead, it was his biological parents who, after recognizing him that night, waited with Lu Yi at the mall entrance until it opened, and after browsing through more than a dozen shops, carefully selected the item for him.

The fabric was high-quality and the tailoring was impeccable; it was a high-end product that Lu Yi had never seen before.

But what he cared about wasn't the price of the shirt, but the care and love his biological parents had for him.

The family affection that Lu Yi had waited seventeen years to finally experience was enough to deeply move him. He took the shirt out from time to time to warm his former self, using it as a kind of emotional anchor.

But what's the point of him doing all this?

What she desperately wanted was readily available to her adopted son, Lu Han, and had even become an unbearable burden.

Seeing Lu Yi's reaction, Lu Han pursed her thin lips, deliberately stretched out her foot, and stepped on the shards of the shirt, like a victor showing off her territory.

Just then, Lu Zhengming appeared at the door of the room.

His tall, broad figure blocked the sunlight, instantly darkening the small room of just over ten square meters.

Lu Zhengming glanced at the mess on the ground and his expression turned displeased.

"Lu Yi, what's gotten into you again?"

Before he finished speaking, Lu Han suddenly lowered her head, her voice becoming hesitant and soft.

"Dad, my brother did nothing wrong, it's all my fault. I didn't know the curtains were fading, otherwise I should have given them to the housekeeper to wash!"

"Brother, don't be stubborn. Fourth Sister wants to invite you to go out for dinner with us... Please come along, okay?"
