Lu Yi ultimately couldn't bring himself to let the fourth young lady of the Lu family go down the mountain alone.
He deliberately slowed his pace, walking ahead at a distance, until he watched her leave the cemetery and drive away before returning to his uncle's residence.
It was completely dark, and a simple dinner was laid out on the table.
Lu Gensheng puffed on his cigarette, coughing violently from the smoke. He took two pills from his pocket, which helped him feel a little better.
"Why are you smoking again?"
Lu Yi snatched the cigarette with one hand, threw it on the ground, and crushed it out with his toe.
He knew that his uncle was worried about him, and he felt both heartache and depression.
"They've left?"
Lu Gengsheng tilted his head towards the door.
Lu Yi grunted in response, ate a couple of bites quickly, and silently walked to the small bed, lying down on his side with his face turned inward.
He used to come here every summer vacation to stay for a few days, and then go home to do odd jobs while reviewing his courses.
It now seems unlikely that such peaceful times will continue.
Lu Gensheng really wanted to have an open and honest talk with his nephew, but seeing that he had no desire to speak, he could only shake his head, pick up his flashlight, and go patrol the mountain.
The next morning, before Lu Gengsheng even opened his eyes, he smelled a fragrance.
Lu Yi smiled and said, "Uncle, I've cooked some porridge and made some refreshing side dishes. Why don't you try them and see how they taste!"
Lu Gensheng frowned when he saw that he had changed into clean clothes, looked refreshed, and had his backpack bulging on the bedside table.
Are you going back?
Lu Yi lowered his head and drank his porridge.
"Yeah, that milk tea shop is too busy, so they asked me to go help out beforehand. I also need to go to the hospital to change my dressing today."
He told a little lie.
The milk tea shops he had contacted before were not short of staff, and the shop managers had already politely declined his request.
The truth is, Lu Yi was worried that the Lu family would keep coming over and disturb his uncle's peace.
However, it is true that I need to go to the hospital to change the dressing.
Last night, in the middle of the night, his arm became incredibly itchy, so uncomfortable that he broke out in a cold sweat, soaking his clothes and sheets.
To avoid being discovered by his uncle, he got up early and took out the sheets and clothes to wash and hang them out to dry.
Lu Gensheng got dressed and went to the tap by the door to wash up.
After returning, I sat down opposite and picked up a towel from the back of the chair to wipe my hands.
"That's fine too. I'll take the protein powder Xiaoyue brought with me when I leave. My old bones can't handle any more nutrients, it's a waste to leave it here."
The father and son didn't say anything more.
If one person suddenly says something, the other person will simply respond with an "uh-huh".
After finishing breakfast, Lu Gensheng looked around for a suitable bag.
"Xiao Yi, put the bowls in the sink outside, I'll wash them. When you get to the hospital, talk to the doctor nicely. I wasn't very nice last time..."
Lu Yi hurriedly said, "Uncle did it all for me. If you hadn't gone to pick me up, they would never have let me go. Don't worry, I know what to do."
Lu Gensheng put all the expensive nutritional supplements that Liang Shiyue and Lu Baoyun brought into a black cloth bag.
The cemetery is located in the suburbs, two kilometers from the nearest bus stop.
Lu Yi intended to walk over.
The cemetery was quiet and deserted in the morning; it wasn't very busy.
But the management staff were always late, and my uncle couldn't leave either.
Before he could speak, Lu Gensheng had already driven the electric car out.
His thin, hunched body sat in the front, patting the back seat. "Get in, it won't take more than five minutes to get you there, it won't delay you."
After boarding the bus, Lu Yi found a window seat and watched his uncle's departing figure, feeling a pang of sadness.
He could have easily avoided worrying about this.
Now, however, he is willingly becoming his own support!
Then look at the Lu family patriarch, who is very successful in the business world, he doesn't even have basic respect for his own son.
It is clear that the closeness or distance between people does not change because of blood ties.
Lu Yi reached into his bag, preparing to take out his phone to see if he could find a new part-time job.
The moment I touched the crevice, my back suddenly stiffened.
When did my uncle secretly slip this money in?
When the Lu family's black card was handed to him, he didn't even flinch.
But these few crumpled banknotes filled his heart with a warm and heavy feeling.
Lu Yi felt a lump in his throat and tilted his head back to stop the tears from falling.
Ring ring ring!
The phone rang at that moment.
Lu Yi took a deep breath, slowly exhaled, and pressed the answer button.
"Excuse me, are you Mr. Lu?"
"I am."
"We're looking to open a new beverage shop and we need some staff. Would you be interested in coming over to discuss things?"
"Sure, I'm available anytime."
Lu Yi spoke lightly and quickly arranged a time and place to meet with the other party.
The store was just one block away from his high school, so it was easy to find.
After hanging up the phone, he clenched his fist happily.
Hiss!
The dull pain in his arm brought a sudden clarity to his mind, and a question came to mind.
"I can't just go to the interview like this, can I? There are plenty of summer jobs available now, and someone like me has no chance of getting hired!"
He pinched the bridge of his nose, lost in thought the whole way.
Orthopedic clinic at the Central Hospital.
The doctor stared at him for a long time, his face full of doubt.
"Hey kid, it's only been three days, and you already want to remove the cast? Don't you want to lose your arm?!"
Lu Yi hurriedly explained, "Of course I want one, but my recovery ability is strong, so it's okay if I don't have a plaster cast."
The doctor adjusted the frameless glasses, got up, and walked to his side.
A strange yet familiar sense of oppression swept over me.
