Lu Yi was unaware of the fierce battle between his godfather and biological mother.
Sitting in Mr. Wen's office, Lu Yi kept sneezing as if possessed by some evil spirit.
This is unbelievable!
Lu Yi muttered to himself.
Allergic rhinitis?
Wen Jialiang was worried that this was an excuse Lu Yi and Huo Jingxi had planned to use to get away, so he quickly took out his medicine and threw it into Lu Yi's arms across the desk.
"I don't have rhinitis."
Lu Yi put the medicine on the table and prepared to get up to go to the bathroom.
At that moment, Wen Jialiang's cell phone rang shrilly.
Lu Yi suddenly stopped in his tracks, and Huo Jingxi snapped away with his lighter. The two of them held their breath and listened intently.
"You found it?"
"What, is it a problem with the intelligent control system?"
"Where's the person operating the machine...? The person... fell into the sea and hasn't been found yet... Okay, hand him over to the other department, you guys come back first!"
After hanging up the phone, Wen Jialiang threw his phone onto the table.
He rubbed his cheeks with both hands, seemingly trying to process the news he had just received.
Huo Jingxi and Lu Yi exchanged a glance.
As Lu Yi had predicted!
The newly launched intelligent control system project has run into such a mess, involving two lives. Gu Huaibei, as the person in charge, will certainly not escape responsibility.
If this isn't aimed at the Gu family, then what is it?
Huo Jingxi pressed his advantage, saying, "The Huo family's goods were switched out. Now the evidence is conclusive, isn't it?"
Upon hearing this, Wen Jialiang stiffened, frowned, and stared at Huo Jingxi through his fingers. "Is that for sure?"
His eyes were sharp and cold as knives, full of the power of justice, as if he wanted to dissect Huo Jingxi and see through him completely.
Lu Yi's heart, which had been at ease, instantly jumped into his throat.
Feigning surprise, she stood up and staggered, blocking Huo Jingxi's path.
Isn't that so?
"The operator fell into the sea and died without any evidence. Anyone could see that this was a trick to frame the Huo family!"
Lu Yi's voice was very loud, drawing Wen Jialiang's attention entirely to himself.
What he said was exactly what Huo Jingxi wanted to ask.
But Lu Yi was blocking his view completely, so he couldn't see Wen Jialiang's reaction. Just as he was about to stand up, he suddenly heard Wen Jialiang snort.
"Yes, you are all smart people, so it's not surprising that you did this!"
Wen Jialiang slammed his fist on the table, his face gradually darkening.
"Lu Yi, you should go back first. Huo Jingxi, someone will come to pick you up soon. I advise you to explain things clearly as soon as possible!"
He stared intently at Lu Yi's eyes and brows, opened his mouth as if to speak, but ultimately didn't utter a word.
Instead, he nodded vigorously without blinking.
Lu Yi thought this was his extreme disappointment and anger, which he couldn't vent, triggering a nervous reflex.
Seeing him tilt his head from side to side and squint his eyes, Lu Yi immediately understood.
The dead operator is very likely connected to the Huo family.
Because Huo Jingxi had once mentioned that he had people working in the warehouse.
Huo Jingxi's lips were tightly closed, and anger was churning in his chest. Even with his back to him, Lu Yi felt a sense of oppression, as if a boiler was about to explode.
He quickly nodded to Wen Jialiang, then turned and grabbed Huo Jingxi's arm, "Second brother, leave the things outside to me and eldest brother!"
Huo Jingxi's anger wasn't going to subside so easily.
He placed his own people in the warehouse, but the operators were from the port. What does that have to do with the Huo family?
Shouldn't the most urgent task be to investigate the operator's motives?
Wait a moment?
His eyes, which had been wide open like goldfish eyes, suddenly snapped open. Could it be...?
Seeing his contorted face relax, Lu Yi raised an eyebrow. "I'm just asking you to cooperate with the investigation. Second Brother, you can't even do that?"
Huo Jingxi instantly caught the implication in his words.
He slumped into the chair with a flourish, lifting one leg and placing it across the leg with the prosthetic limb.
He crossed his arms in front of him and grinned nonchalantly.
“I thought it was something serious. I’m a good citizen of Jiangzhou, and cooperating with the investigation is my duty. There’s nothing I can’t do.”
"It's much better to eat and drink well here than to face endless documents in the office!"
"Third brother, tell the eldest brother that our Huo family will investigate this matter to the end. No matter who it leads to, we'll make sure they suffer a terrible fate!"
He swung his toes, his expression completely different from before.
If it weren't for the metallic sheen peeking out from under his trousers, no one would suspect he was missing a leg.
"Great! If you think that way, things will be much easier!"
Wen Jialiang breathed a sigh of relief, walked past Huo Jingxi, and pointed to the door.
"Lu Yi, although there is no evidence against you right now, you cannot leave Jiangzhou at will. You must be available whenever summoned, understand?"
Lu Yi agreed with a serious expression.
She glanced at Huo Jingxi meaningfully, then opened the door and walked out.
Dark clouds covered the sky, and the early autumn wind carried a hint of coolness, swirling up fallen leaves from the corner of the wall and letting them drift freely.
"Third brother!"
Lu Yi tightened his coat, just about to call and ask Du Guanglong about the situation, when Huo Jingxi's shout suddenly came from upstairs.
"I need to ask you for a favor!"
He quickly lit a cigarette with his lighter, chuckled as he blew smoke rings.
"What is it? Tell me!"
Lu Yi turned around and went back downstairs, looking up at him.
I was afraid of missing any of his subtle expressions and movements.
Huo Jingxi said, "I need to apply medicine to this eye every day. Call Jiaojiao and ask her to look in the second drawer on the right side of my desk."
"Since you're about to start school, let her accompany you to and from school. Otherwise, I can't guarantee she'll stay put here!"
