Chapter 8 A Feast for the Rich

As he watched the vehicle descend the mountain, a hint of worry appeared in Lu Gengsheng's cloudy eyes.

Before his cousin, who was also Lu Yi's adoptive father, passed away, he may have sensed that his days were numbered and came here to look for him.

I remember him saying at the time, "There are no parents in the world who don't love their children. If someone comes looking for me in the future, I should go back to my own home."

Lu Gensheng didn't understand at the time.

She even retorted, "What are you two getting out of raising this child?"

Lu Yi's adoptive father said with a smile, "His mother and I are already very content with having a father-son relationship for half a lifetime, but the child's life still has to go on."

“I’m entrusting him to you only temporarily. Once you’re buried, leaving him all alone, I can’t bring myself to do that.”

It was only then that Lu Gengsheng learned that they had been searching for Lu Yi's relatives all along.

Later, when he went to see Lu Yi, the neighborhood committee told him that Lu Yi had returned to her biological parents' home.

This separation lasted for more than half a year.

When I saw the child again, his face was bruised, his arm was in a sling, and his legs were wrapped in bandages...

Lu Gensheng took off his vest, smoothed it out, and draped it over his shoulder. "Let's go back inside. I'll cook you noodles. Your dad says you love chicken noodle soup the most!"

As soon as Lu Yi turned around, the hum of an engine sounded again outside the large iron gate.

"You stay here, I'm going to ask those women if they're ever going to stop!"

Lu Gensheng put down the wooden block in his hand, wiped his hands on his pants, and walked out with a gloomy face.

A moment later, he entered the house with a smile.

"Xiao Yi, look! Who's here?"

"Lu Yi, it's been a long time. How are you?"

Liang Shiyue followed behind Lu Gengsheng carrying large and small bags, and was stunned the moment she saw Lu Yi.

My fingers loosened, and everything fell to the ground; my vision went completely blurry.

It took Lu Yi a long time to coax her into calming down.

Liang Shiyue, her nose red, was still sobbing, "Why didn't you tell me you were in a car accident?"

Lu Yi fiddled with the red-hot wood in the stove with one hand, glanced at her, and did not answer.

Lu Gensheng sighed, "Xiaoyue, don't ask him anymore. He's always been a quiet person, you know that. By the way, have the college entrance exam results come out yet?"

Liang Shiyue nodded. "I've already submitted my college application. I came today to tell my dad."

When the topic turned to the deceased, Lu Gengsheng became more talkative.

She chattered on about the trivial matters that had happened between her neighbors in the community.

“Your dad is a kind-hearted man. If he hadn’t jumped into the water to save people back then, that family probably wouldn’t have survived.”

"Fortunately, that family has some conscience. Although they don't visit or show their faces, they still take care of you and your daughter."

Now it was Liang Shiyue's turn to fall silent.

During the winter of her first year of high school, her teacher suddenly called her out and told her to pack her things and go home first.

When she learned that her father had gone missing after rescuing someone from the water, she felt like the sky was falling.

Later, she moved to a large apartment in a prime location in the city, which greatly improved her life with her mother. However, she preferred to give up these things and only hoped that her father would return safely.

A few months later, she received devastating news.

"Alright, eat your noodles. After you're done, I'll take you to the grave."

Lu Gensheng patted their heads, his eyes filled with tenderness and affection as he looked at them.

...

The Lu family villa was brightly lit and filled with distinguished guests.

On her way from the cemetery, Qin Fengying was still thinking about Lu Yi.

But seeing her adopted son, Lu Han, so happy like a child because he got a new car, her unhappiness faded away considerably.

"Han'er, it's rare that all your sisters are back today. Why don't we book a place and invite your classmates and friends to have some fun?"

Lu Han sat down next to Qin Fengying. "Mom, I love home the most. If you don't mind it being too noisy, I'd like to invite my classmates over to play."

Having finally managed to get Lu Yi "out of here," how could he possibly let this opportunity slip by!

Cleaning his room was just a formality by the parents.

He didn't believe that Lu Yi would have the nerve to enter the Lu family's door.

As long as she demonstrates her status within the Lu family to her classmates, no matter what Lu Yi does in the future, she will always be seen as a clown despised by everyone!

Lu Zhengming was busy with work for the company, and these past two days, he's been feeling down because of Lu Yi.

Qin Fengying thought that making the house more lively might not be a bad thing.

That afternoon, luxury cars filled the Huagong Villa, and all the parking spaces above and below ground at the Lu family's residence were completely full.

Latecomers can only park their cars outside.

Business partners of the Lu family, close classmates of Lu Han and her fourth sister Lu Baoyun, best friends whom her third sister Lu Baoqi considers close, colleagues of her eldest sister Lu Baozhi at the hospital, friends in the industry...

Inside the Lu family villa, laughter and compliments filled the air.

The last time such a grand event was held was when Lu Baoqi officially debuted in the entertainment industry with a supporting role.

Lu Han's vanity was greatly satisfied. Holding a wine glass, he strolled back and forth between the hall and the back garden.

On the rooftop, Lu Zhengming poured himself a drink and drank it by himself.

Lu Baoyun stood at the top of the stairs, hesitated for a moment, and then went over. "Dad, why don't you go downstairs? I see Uncle Hong's children have come to support him."

Hung Hing transitioned from officialdom to business, and their extensive network of connections is astonishing.

After the Lu family partnered with him, their annual profits increased several times over.

"It's Baoyun... They'd all be reserved if I were there. You have things in common with them, so what are you doing on the rooftop?"

A cool breeze made her skirt flutter, and Lu Baoyun folded her hands together and sat on the rattan chair.

"Lu Yi has been back for so long, and he's never seen anything like this before..."
