Chapter 30: Offering sacrifices to Heaven to comfort your departed souls! Dust to dust, ashes to ashes!
Two days later, at sunset, the setting sun was like blood.
A clearing has been created around the deep pit in the backyard of the Su family.
Everything that Chen Yuepo needed was prepared.
Just then, the sound of screeching brakes came from outside the gate.
Immediately afterwards, two tall, straight figures strode in.
The person in the lead was Su Zheng, dressed in casual clothes, looking travel-worn as he stepped into the backyard.
A man in a black uniform with a special badge pinned to his chest followed behind him.
Their footsteps were silent, their aura restrained; these were the friends from the special department Su Zheng had brought with him.
—Qin Li.
"Dad, Yan'er!" Su Zheng saw his father and sister standing to the side, his tense nerves relaxed slightly, and he quickly stepped forward.
"Ah Zheng!" Su Zhengguo felt a little relieved when he saw his son return.
"elder brother!"
Su Yan rushed over and grabbed Su Zheng's arm tightly, as if she had found her pillar of support.
Qin Li's gaze immediately fell on the deep pit in the backyard that exuded a chilling aura.
His brows furrowed instantly, and his eyes became extremely serious.
He whispered to Su Zheng, "Such heavy Yin and resentment!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than another understated yet luxurious black sedan pulled up outside the Su family's gate.
The car door opened, and Shen Wangchuan stepped out.
He came to the ancestral home in Qingchuan to pick up Shen Yuepo and bring her back to the capital on his father's orders. When he heard from Uncle Zhang that she had come to the Su family, he came directly to find her.
The Su family and the Shen family were old friends. The butler mistakenly thought that Shen Wangchuan had come to see Su Zheng, so he let him in.
Shen Wangchuan walked through the front hall and came to the backyard.
His gaze swept across the field and immediately fell upon Shen Yuepo, who stood at the edge of the deep pit, dressed in a gray-blue Taoist robe, with a cold expression.
Su Zheng was slightly taken aback when he saw Shen Wangchuan enter. "Wangchuan? What brings you here?"
Shen Wangchuan was also surprised to see Su Zheng. Shouldn't he be in the army at this moment?
"Ah Zheng, it's been a long time."
Shen Wangchuan, dressed in a suit and tie, stood under the corridor, looking at the figure not far away with a complicated expression: "I've come to pick her up."
He paused, looking at the figure in the gray-blue Taoist robe in the center of the courtyard. "That's my sister, Shen Yuepo."
"She's your sister?!" Su Zheng was stunned.
Su Zheng only knew that the Shen family had found their biological daughter, but he never expected that this was actually the eldest daughter the Shen family had just found.
Shen Wangchuan didn't explain much. He looked at the edge of the pit, his eyes showing obvious disapproval:
"What is she doing? What is she up to now?"
In his preconceived notion, Shen Yuepo's "abilities" were nothing more than tricks to feign supernatural powers and curry favor with the powerful.
Just as Su Zheng was about to explain that Shen Yuepo was helping the Su family avert a major disaster, Qin Li stopped him with a single look.
Qin Li said in a low voice, "President Shen, your sister seems to be dealing with a very tricky matter. Let's wait and see."
Shen Wangchuan looked at Qin Li's solemn expression, and then at the seriousness on Su Zheng's face.
His contempt and disdain subsided slightly, but he still harbored great suspicion and prepared to see how Shen Yuepo would "perform".
He wanted to see what tricks this younger sister could pull.
The center of the academy.
Shen Yuepo ignored the newcomers, as if they were just insignificant background figures.
She first went to the two roosters, made a small incision on each of their combs, and collected the blood into a bowl.
Then, she picked up the fat sheep waiting to be slaughtered and, using the same method, took a bowl of its heart's blood.
She quickly mixed three bowls of blood with cinnabar using a new brush, creating a bowl of thick, pungent blood ink.
Immediately afterwards, she grabbed a peach wood stake, dipped her finger in blood ink, and quickly carved runes on the stake.
With each stroke, the runes seemed to come alive, faintly emitting a golden-red glow.
After carving one piece, it is forcefully inserted into a specific position around the deep pit.
One, two, three...
Her movements were so fast they were dazzling; her bluish-gray figure moved swiftly around the deep pit.
Nine peach wood stakes, engraved with runes, were firmly nailed around the deep pit, vaguely forming the outline of a huge array.
"Nine Palaces Suppressing Evil Spirits Pile!"
Qin Li gasped in disbelief, his eyes gleaming with disbelief.
This is not some江湖 (jianghu) trick, but a long-lost, orthodox method for suppressing evil spirits.
His eyes were instantly filled with shock as he looked at Shen Yuepo.
Shen Wangchuan was also stunned. Although he didn't understand these things, Shen Yuepo's smooth movements and the faintly glowing runes on the peach wood stake were definitely not something an ordinary person could fake.
For the first time, cracks appeared in his doubts.
With the formation in place, Shen Yuepo did not pause for a moment.
She grabbed the red cloth, flicked her wrist, and the red cloth unfolded.
Using her fingers as a brush, she dipped them in blood ink and drew huge runes on the red cloth.
After finishing the drawing, she shouted and hurled the huge red cloth rune into the air above the deep pit.
The red cloth, as if alive, hovered steadily above the deep pit, its runes flowing and radiating a powerful sealing force.
The wisps of dark gray malevolent energy that had been emanating from the deep pit suddenly surged violently.
A chilling, bone-deep wind, howling with countless resentful thoughts, rose from the ground, stirring up dust and gravel.
The people under the eaves felt a chill run through their bodies.
Shen Yuepo stood in the center of the formation, the wind making her Taoist robe flutter and her hair dance, but her figure was as steady as a rock.
She made a hand seal and began chanting an ancient and obscure incantation.
The sound was clear and melodious, with a strange penetrating power, which subtly overpowered the wailing of the evil spirit.
"By imperial decree! Guide the spirits of the underworld to their rightful place! By imperial decree!" With her final shout, she pressed her hands down sharply.
"Buzz!"
The nine peach wood stakes simultaneously emitted a dazzling golden-red light, connecting with each other to form a huge net of light.
The red cloth runes hovering above the pit also shone brightly instantly, reflecting onto the churning black aura of resentment.
The black energy twisted violently under the constraints of the light net and the suppression of the runes.
Countless mournful and unwilling screams came from the depths of the pit, and the black energy almost broke free from its restraints and surged toward the direction of Chen Yuepo.
Shen Wangchuan's pupils contracted sharply, and he subconsciously took a step forward, but Qin Li grabbed him.
"Don't go over there!"
Shen Yuepo's face was slightly pale, clearly indicating that he had exhausted himself.
But her eyes remained sharp as she made another hand gesture, pointing to the rooster and fat sheep prepared beside her:
"Offer sacrifices to Heaven to comfort your departed souls! Dust to dust, ashes to ashes! By imperial decree!"
Drawn by an unseen force, the rooster and the fat sheep seemed to be sacrificed. A pure life force mixed with the spiritual power of the Moon Soul transformed into a soft light that shone into the deep pit.
Amidst a piercing shriek, the black mist dissipated, and dark red blood seeped from the cracks in the ground.
Su Zheng tensed up, his soldier's instincts almost making him draw his gun, but he was so shocked by the supernatural scene before him that he couldn't move.
The last wisp of black mist struggling in the pit finally dissipated completely, and the suffocating, chilling resentment receded like the tide.
Although the white bones at the bottom of the pit still existed, the soaring ferocity had vanished, leaving only a desolate and silent atmosphere.
The wind stopped. Silence returned to the backyard, broken only by the heavy breathing of the group.
Shen Yuepo slowly withdrew his hand, fine beads of sweat appearing on his forehead, his face even paler, but his posture remained upright.
Shen Wangchuan stared intently at Shen Yuepo's retreating figure, his heart pounding wildly.
She wasn't just pretending; she really... could exorcise evil spirits!
"The evil spirit has been sealed and the vengeful spirit has been subdued. Within three days, fill this pit, sprinkle quicklime on it, and plant nine peach trees and nine willow trees. Within three years, no earth shall be moved here, no houses shall be built here, but it may be turned into a garden."
She turned to Su Zhengguo, her voice tinged with weariness, yet still clear.
Su Zhengguo was already trembling with excitement, and he quickly bowed, saying, "Thank you, little master!"
Just then, Qin Li, standing next to Su Zheng, looked at Shen Yuepo and couldn't help but let out a heartfelt sigh:
"Captain Su, where did you find this real master?"
His gaze toward Shen Yuepo was filled with unprecedented awe and curiosity.
This eldest daughter of the Shen family is no ordinary person.
