Chapter 154 Ghost Marriage
The next morning.
When Shen Yuepo woke up, the spot beside her was empty, with only the folds of the bedding as proof of Feng Jin's presence last night.
She sat up, her fingertips unconsciously tracing her lips. The lingering sensation from last night's domineering kiss seemed not to have completely subsided, leaving her face slightly flushed.
She shook her head and got up to wash up.
After tidying up, she opened the door.
Almost simultaneously, the door to the next room opened as well.
Feng Jin walked out, his cold and handsome face showing no sign of abnormality, as if he were not the one who had lost control and kissed her last night.
He walked to Shen Yuepo's side and naturally took her hand.
The blush-inducing images from last night flooded back into Shen Yuepo's mind, and she felt her cheeks begin to heat up again. She immediately recited the Heart-Cleansing Mantra.
The two walked down the stairs hand in hand.
In the living room, Xiao Yizhou came in from outside, his hair slightly damp, wearing sportswear, obviously having just returned from a morning run.
Seeing the two walking down the stairs side by side, his smile faltered for a moment, then returned to normal, and he said gently:
"Good morning. The housekeeper has already prepared breakfast. Please have some, I'm going to take a shower."
"Good morning," Shen Yuepo nodded in response.
Feng Jin simply nodded slightly, as if to say hello.
The two had breakfast quietly in the restaurant.
Not long after, Xiao Yizhou, now dressed in a casual suit, came downstairs again, his expression more serious than before.
"Moon Soul, the Yu family has arrived. Could you please go and check on them later?"
Just then, Shen Yuepo finished eating. She wiped her mouth and stood up: "Okay."
Feng Jin also stood up and pulled Shen Yuepo a few steps away from the dining table.
"What's wrong?" Shen Yuepo asked in a low voice.
Feng Jin looked at her, his voice extremely low: "Feng Du has an urgent matter to attend to, and I need to go back immediately."
Shen Yuepo's heart skipped a beat for no apparent reason, and she subconsciously asked, "What is it?"
“There’s some unusual activity deep within the Netherworld Blood Sea; the seal seems to be loosening. I need to go there personally to suppress it,” Feng Jin said succinctly.
The Blood Sea is the most dangerous place in the underworld. Any unusual activity there could have far-reaching consequences, even affecting the balance between the yin and yang realms.
Shen Yuepo instantly understood the seriousness of the matter, and she nodded: "Okay."
These comings and goings inexplicably gave her the feeling of being in a long-distance relationship...
Shen Yuepo was startled by this sudden thought, but quickly suppressed it.
Feng Jin's gaze passed over her shoulder and landed on Xiao Yizhou, who was waiting outside the restaurant.
He raised his hand, his cool fingertips brushing against her cheek. "Go."
Xiao Yizhou watched as Shen Yuepo walked over alone, while Feng Jin remained where he was. He asked in confusion, "Mr. Feng, aren't you coming along?"
Shen Yuepo walked up to him, his expression already back to normal: "He has urgent business to attend to and needs to leave."
"Should I have the driver take him out?" Xiao Yizhou asked politely.
“No need,” Shen Yuepo shook his head, “Someone will come to pick him up.”
Upon hearing this, Xiao Yizhou did not ask any further questions.
This Mr. Feng is extremely mysterious; not a single piece of information about him can be found.
Shen Yuepo followed Xiao Yizhou to the Yu family villa, which was located next to the Xiao family.
Unlike the Xiao family's Neo-Chinese style, the Yu family villa leans more towards a modern minimalist style.
But at this moment, in Shen Yuepo's eyes, the subtle malevolent aura emanating from the four corners disrupted the overall harmony of the villa.
The atmosphere in the living room was heavy.
The head of the Yu family, Yu Zhenghong, his wife, Mu Ruoyan, and their son, Yu Che, were all waiting there.
"Uncle Yu, Aunt Mu, A-Che, this is Master Shen I was talking about, Shen Yuepo," Xiao Yizhou introduced them.
"Moon Soul, this is Mr. Yu Zhenghong, his wife Ms. Mu Ruoyan, and Yu Che."
When the three members of the Yu family saw that the "Master Shen" Xiao Yizhou had mentioned was so young, even looking younger than Yu Che, they couldn't hide their astonishment.
Mu Ruoyan, in particular, had an expression of disbelief and a hint of doubt in her eyes.
I had heard that the daughter the Shen family found was also named Shen Yuepo. Could it be the one in front of me?
Yu Zhenghong was a man who had seen it all before. He quickly suppressed his surprise, put on a polite smile, and extended his hand: "Master Shen, I've heard so much about you. Thank you for your help."
Shen Yuepo reached out and shook hands with them, his gaze calmly sweeping over the three of them before getting straight to the point:
“Mr. Yu, Mrs. Yu. The four ghosts carrying the sedan chair is a formation that gathers evil spirits, cuts off offspring, and invites bloodshed.”
"In the past six months, you have suffered setbacks in your careers, including investment failures and broken partnerships. At home, your loved ones are bedridden, and there may even be unexpected bloodshed."
As soon as Shen Yuepo finished speaking, Mu Ruoyan's face turned deathly pale, her body swayed slightly, and she subconsciously grabbed her husband's arm tightly.
The look in her eyes as she looked at Shen Yuepo instantly shifted from doubt to terror.
The Yu family's business has suffered a series of setbacks in the past six months. Her son, Yu Che, almost had a car accident on the highway a while ago, and she herself has been suffering from a constant stream of minor illnesses.
She had always thought it was just bad luck, but she never expected it was a problem with the house.
Yu Zhenghong felt his wife trembling and her face was extremely pale, but he was more shrewd and forced himself to remain calm. He patted Mu Ruoyan's hand without making a sound, signaling her to calm down.
He didn't admit it immediately, but the sudden change in his expression revealed the turmoil in his heart.
"Master Shen."
Yu Che was clearly not as composed as his father; he stepped forward hastily:
"How do we break this deadlock? Do we need to dismantle everything?"
Shen Yuepo did not answer him, but instead turned to Yu Zhenghong and Mu Ruoyan.
Her gaze swept over the space between their brows and the area between their eyebrows, and her cool, delicate brows gradually furrowed.
She hesitated for a moment, then looked up at Yu Zhenghong, her voice unusually cold and stern:
"Mr. Yu, the solution isn't difficult, but before that, I need to confirm a few things. Would it be convenient for you two to tell me your birth dates and times?"
Yu Zhenghong and Mu Ruoyan exchanged a glance. Although they were puzzled, the power and aura that Shen Yuepo was displaying made them dare not be negligent.
Without hesitation, Yu Zhenghong immediately gave out his and his wife's birth dates and times.
Shen Yuepo's fingertips flew across the void, calculating rapidly. After only a dozen seconds, Shen Yuepo abruptly stopped what he was doing.
She turned abruptly, not even glancing at the three members of the Yu family, and strode towards the villa's gate, her voice icy and chilling:
"I'm sorry, I can't help you break this game."
This sudden turn of events left everyone stunned.
"Moon Soul!"
Xiao Yizhou was the first to react, stepping forward to block Shen Yuepo's path, his face full of astonishment and confusion, "What's wrong?"
Shen Yuepo stopped and looked up at Xiao Yizhou. His gaze even made Xiao Yizhou feel a chill.
She spoke each word clearly, her voice echoing in the living room: "I have no interest in helping people who force others into a ghost marriage with their own sons to break their deadlock."
Her icy gaze swept over the bewildered Yu Zhenghong and Mu Ruoyan: "All of this is the result of your own actions."
These words struck the hearts of the three members of the Yu family like a heavy hammer.
Yu Zhenghong finally snapped out of his shock and realized that the young girl in front of him was truly capable.
But……
“Forced?!” Yu Zhenghong stepped forward and explained:
"Master Shen, are you perhaps mistaken?"
"Yes. It's true that our family arranged a ghost marriage for our deceased youngest son, but... but the woman's parents did it voluntarily!"
“We gave them some money as compensation, and also so that my poor child could have company in the afterlife. It was a mutually agreeable thing!”
"Consensual?"
Shen Yuepo suddenly turned around and let out a sneer.
She looked directly into Yu Zhenghong's eyes: "Then tell me, did that dead girl ever agree to marry a complete stranger, a ghost?!"
Upon hearing this, Yu Zhenghong felt as if he had been choked, and all his explanations were instantly stuck in his throat.
His and Mu Ruoyan's faces turned pale instantly, their lips trembling, but they couldn't utter a single word.
They were initially only immersed in the pain of losing their child and their own self-righteous belief that they were doing what was best for the child, so they used money to appease the woman's parents.
I never considered the wishes of that dead girl...
"Dad! Mom! You...you actually..."
Looking at his parents' expressions, Yu Che instantly realized that what Shen Yuepo said was true.
I felt a chill and a sense of absurdity wash over me.
He had no idea that his parents had done this behind his back, even after his brother's death.
Yu Zhenghong finally calmed down a bit.
He wiped his face and explained to Shen Yuepo, "A-Che's younger brother was just twenty years old when he passed away... so young..."
His voice choked with emotion, "We heard people say... that the child passed away at a young age, and his soul is lonely. If no one is with him, he may not be able to have a fulfilling next life... so..."
He swallowed hard, then managed to utter, "So, we thought of arranging a ghost marriage for him..."
"What about the girl?" Yu Che's voice was dry and hoarse, accusingly asking, "Who was she? How did she die?"
“She…her name is…” Yu Zhenghong was speechless for a moment, looking at Mu Ruoyan who was pale.
He couldn't even remember the girl's name.
Mu Ruoyan interjected, her voice trembling, "Her name was Lin Xiudi. She was a pitiful child too; I heard she had cancer and didn't make it..."
"She's the same age as your brother. We spent a lot of money, and her parents...her parents agreed. They said it would be good for their daughter to have a companion down there..."
Yu Che's voice rose, filled with disbelief and anger, "Mom and Dad! How...how could you..."
How foolish and ignorant!
He was so angry he couldn't continue speaking.
