Chapter 98 This is my own business
Feng Jin's gaze fell on her pale face, finally freezing on her blood-stained lips.
He frowned almost imperceptibly, his hand on her waist remained in place, but his other hand rose up.
His cool fingertips brushed away the bloodstains at the corner of her lips, the movement as natural as if he had done it a thousand times.
But the next second, he sensed Mingye's presence in the blood, and his eyes suddenly turned cold. "Mingye has come looking for you?"
Shen Yuepo was slightly startled by the cool touch of his fingertips, but quickly regained her composure.
She gently pulled away from his hand on her waist, and although her steps were still a little unsteady, she tried her best to stand up straight.
Meeting his icy gaze, she said calmly, "Yes. I deliberately provoked him to make a move."
She paused, seemingly savoring the brief exchange she had just had, and frankly admitted, "I didn't expect the gap between us to be so big."
She tried her best and used every trick in the book, but could only manage to scratch its surface.
Upon hearing this, Feng Jin did not inquire about the details further and turned to leave.
The movements were swift and decisive, without the slightest hesitation.
Shen Yuepo was taken aback. "Where are you going?" she asked instinctively.
Feng Jin didn't stop walking; his tall figure exuded a murderous aura in the night: "I'm going to avenge you."
"Need not!"
Shen Yuepo quickly stepped forward and, in a moment of urgency, grabbed Feng Jin's wrist.
Feng Jin stopped walking.
He turned his head slightly, the night outlining his cold profile, his dark golden eyes turning to her in the darkness, silently questioning.
Shen Yuepo didn't loosen her grip on his wrist, looking up at him:
"This is my own business."
A night breeze swept by, ruffling her loose hair.
"Tonight I was simply outmatched, but this gap..."
Her fingers tightened slightly, and a burning fighting spirit ignited in her eyes:
"I will smooth things over little by little. One day, I will be strong enough to make Mingye flee in the same sorry state as I am tonight."
Feng Jin listened quietly, his gaze fixed on Shen Yuepo's face.
There was no ridicule, no denial.
A hint of admiration even flashed in his eyes.
He nodded slightly, which was a sign of his approval of her choice.
But then, his brow furrowed, and his voice suddenly turned cold, "What do you mean this is your own business?"
Shen Yuepo was taken aback, not expecting him to suddenly care about this.
But she wasn't wrong...
Feng Jin took a step closer, his aura suddenly becoming incredibly oppressive:
"When you were breaking the Shen family's formation, why didn't you say that was your own business? When I brought you back to Fengdu severely injured, why didn't you say that was your own business?"
His dark gold eyes narrowed dangerously. "Now that the contract is broken, you're in such a hurry to sever ties?"
As he drew closer, Shen Yuepo belatedly realized that her hand was still tightly gripping the other's wrist.
Her fingertips trembled, and she loosened her grip somewhat awkwardly.
As the night breeze blew by, Feng Jin's questions reached her ears, and she suddenly felt like a heartless woman who had abandoned her husband and children.
"I..." She opened her mouth, but found herself unable to defend herself.
To cover up the subtle embarrassment, she cleared her slightly dry throat and blurted out, "Feng Jin, I'm hungry."
Feng Jin: "..."
Feng Jin didn't say anything, and turned to walk towards the crowd.
Shen Yuepo jogged a couple of steps to catch up, and couldn't help but ask again, "You... how did you come to the mortal realm?"
Given his status, he would never easily leave Fengdu unless absolutely necessary.
It was for recuperating from an injury before, but what about now?
Feng Jin didn't even turn his head, coldly saying, "I'm just bored."
Shen Yuepo realized that whenever he got angry, he liked to refer to himself as "this Emperor".
But she really couldn't understand what he was angry about.
Meanwhile, in the Songshan Villa District, the Lin family lived.
After Shen Yuepo left, Xiao Yizhou withdrew his gaze from the doorway, and the last trace of warmth on his face because of Shen Yuepo completely disappeared, leaving only his usual aloofness.
He put down his almost untouched wine glass and turned to leave.
"Mr. Xiao, please wait!" Lin Xun's voice carried the smoothness of a businessman as he quickly stepped forward to stop him.
"It's a rare privilege for you to grace us with your presence. I haven't yet formally toasted you to express my gratitude. Why don't we move to the inner hall so we can discuss our cooperation on that piece of land in the east of the city?" He lowered his tone.
Xiao Yizhou stopped in his tracks and slowly turned around.
His gaze swept past Lin Xun and finally settled on Lin Rui, who was a few steps away and had changed his clothes.
"No need. Master Shen is my friend." His gaze fell on Lin Rui again, and his eyes made Lin Rui feel uncomfortable.
“Someone made her unhappy…” Xiao Yizhou’s lips curled into a cold smile, carrying a warning: “It was someone who made me, Xiao Yizhou, unhappy.”
After saying that, he stopped looking at Lin Xun's face, which had turned ugly in an instant, and strode towards the door.
His tall, imposing figure exuded a chilling aura that kept strangers at bay; wherever he went, guests instinctively fell silent and made way for him.
Lin Xun was utterly humiliated by the public rebuttal and warning, and his face turned ashen.
He stood there, watching Xiao Yizhou leave with a gloomy look in his eyes.
Lu Jin saw all of this.
Shen Yuepo's words and her obvious attitude toward Lin Rui stirred up a storm in his heart.
He looked at Lin Rui, his cousin who had always been humble and polite in his memory, but now the sinister look in his eyes that he hadn't had time to completely conceal seemed particularly glaring.
"Cousin, cousin, I'll take my leave now." Lu Jin's voice was much colder than usual, carrying a clear sense of distance.
After saying that, he turned around and left quickly without waiting for Lin Xun to speak again, chasing after the direction where Xiao Yizhou had disappeared.
As Lin Rui watched Lu Jin's departing figure, the composure he had been maintaining on his face finally shattered, and a barely perceptible sense of panic surged in his eyes.
He clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white, but he restrained himself from lashing out because of the occasion.
He took a deep breath, turned to Lin Xun, and said in a suppressed, somber voice, "Dad, that Master Shen..."
Lin Xun raised his hand and stopped him from speaking further with a stern look.
He glanced around at the guests, who were all looking at him with a variety of inquisitive eyes, and his voice regained its composure:
"It was just a minor misunderstanding, nothing serious. Ladies and gentlemen, please continue, and let's all enjoy ourselves tonight!"
He immediately stabilized the situation, and said that other matters could be discussed later.
Madam Lin stood not far away; she only saw Xiao Yizhou leave with a cold face, and Lu Jin also left with an unhappy expression.
A strong sense of unease gripped her.
Ever since Cheng'er died in a car accident, she always felt that there was some secret between her husband and Rui'er.
...
Shen Yuepo and Feng Jin took a taxi away from Songshan Villa District and randomly found a relatively quiet Hong Kong-style tea restaurant near Shen Yuepo's residential area.
The restaurant wasn't crowded, so Shen Yuepo ordered some main dishes and a few extra delicate Hong Kong-style desserts.
The food was served quickly, steaming hot.
However, Feng Jin, who sat opposite her, seemed like an ice sculpture from the moment he sat down.
His handsome face was expressionless, his eyes were lowered, and his gaze was fixed on the phone screen.
The light from the screen reflected on his sharply defined face, making him appear even more cold and hard.
His entire aura can be summed up in four words: Keep out of reach of strangers.
Shen Yuepo ate slowly and deliberately, without saying a word. She simply pushed the exquisite dessert that had just been served directly in front of Feng Jin's phone screen.
The golden, crispy aroma of egg tarts, the rich, creamy sweetness of mango crepes...
Finally, they managed to distract Feng Jin from the screen.
His fingertips paused on the screen, but he still didn't look up.
Shen Yuepo picked up a small spoon, scooped up a spoonful of pastry, put it in her mouth, swallowed it, and then put the spoon down, her voice calm:
"Feng Jin, do you know what I hate the most?"
Feng Jin finally slowly raised his head.
He looked at Shen Yuepo, his expression unreadable. "What?"
Shen Yuepo met his gaze and said, word by word:
"What I hate most is when other people are eating with me and they keep playing on their phones."
