Chapter 4 Stop acting, you're crying so ugly!
Shen Yuepo packed only a few of the most important ancient books and a few faded old Taoist robes before following the Shen couple down the mountain.
Lin Yanxin clung to the door frame, his handsome face contorted in a bitter expression.
He watched as Shen Yuepo descended the stone steps, then suddenly rushed forward and grabbed the sleeve of her slightly oversized Taoist robe.
"Little Moon!!" he cried out in a long, mournful tone, "You...you've gone far away, and I, your senior brother, am left all alone to guard this dilapidated temple, enduring wind and rain, sleeping in the open, unable to sleep a wink... Waaah..."
Shen Yuepo paused, expressionless, and forcefully pulled her sleeve back from between Lin Yanxin's fingers.
"Stop acting, you look awful crying."
"..."
Lin Yanxin clutched her hand that had been flung away, watching Shen Yuepo's retreating figure as he unhesitatingly climbed into the car.
The melodramatic, pathetic act vanished instantly; a twitch at the corner of her mouth, and she muttered under her breath:
"Tsk, really... they don't even have a shred of camaraderie!"
The car window slowly rolled up, shutting out the scent of the mountains and fields.
Lin Yanxin watched as the black car slowly started, kicking up a cloud of dust.
He finally raised his voice, using a more sincere tone, and shouted, "Hey! Remember to come home often! And also!"
"If you get rich, don't forget to send some braised pork money to your senior brother who's so poor he's practically eating tree bark..."
The roar of the engine swallowed its tail, and the black car quickly disappeared at the end of the winding mountain road.
Lin Yanxin stood still, the mountain wind ruffling his slightly disheveled Taoist robe.
Looking at the empty mountain gate and the even more desolate Taoist temple, the playful smile on his face slowly faded, leaving only a desolate silence.
He raised his hand and subconsciously squeezed the fingertips that had just tugged at Shen Yuepo's sleeve.
After a long pause, he muttered another curse under his breath, his tone complex:
"You heartless little brat..."
Shen Yuepo sat in the spacious back seat of the Maybach, watching the scenery rushing past the window like a detached outsider.
Madam Shen sat beside her, cautiously observing her aloof profile. She wanted to speak several times, but hesitated in fear due to the unapproachable aura emanating from her.
Chairman Shen, seated in the front, answered a phone call, calmly handling company affairs.
Only occasionally, a glance through the rearview mirror revealed a deep and complex emotion.
The atmosphere inside the car was somber and subdued.
After an unknown amount of time, the slight vibration of the wheels rolling over the speed bump seemed to give Madam Shen a bit of courage to break the silence.
She took a deep breath, her voice trembling almost imperceptibly, and cautiously began, "Moon Soul... um..."
Shen Yuepo didn't turn around, but merely turned his face slightly, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye, his expression calm and unwavering.
Madam Shen felt a tightness in her chest under that calm gaze.
She mustered her courage and quickened her pace:
"Shortly after you went missing, a distant cousin and his wife tragically died in a car accident, leaving behind an orphan girl who was only three years old."
"She was so pitiful, so we...we adopted her and raised her as our daughter..."
Shen Yuepo listened quietly, her face remaining expressionless, though a hint of mockery flickered in her heart.
That's really dramatic.
Seeing that she didn't react, Madam Shen thought she was angry and quickly added:
"Don't worry, Yuepo! Mom and Dad will treat them equally! Yurou, she..."
Shen Yuepo subtly tugged at the corner of her lips, interrupting Madam Shen's unfinished promise, and simply responded with a faint "Mm".
Treat everyone equally?
A "pearl" carefully nurtured for twenty years in a brocade-filled landscape, and a "wild grass" that grew up in a mountain Taoist temple and has only been recognized for half a day.
Who would put the weights on the same side of the scale?
She, Shen Yuepo, never believed in such cheap guarantees.
The car drove into the heart of the capital city and finally stopped in front of a magnificent detached manor.
The ornate wrought iron gate slowly opened, and the convoy drove in, stopping in front of the brightly lit main building of the mansion.
The car door was opened respectfully.
Shen Yuepo got out of the car by herself, refusing the hand her assistant offered.
She was still wearing that faded gray-blue Taoist robe, which looked jarringly out of place in this extremely luxurious environment.
Madam Shen quickly followed, forcing a smile on her face: "Yuepo, we're home. This is our home."
She tried to reach for Chen Yuepo's hand, but Chen Yuepo subtly avoided it.
"Hmm," Shen Yuepo responded faintly.
Madam Shen's smile froze for a moment, a hint of hurt flashing in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure and was about to lead her inside—
The main building's doors were suddenly pulled open from the inside.
A tall, handsome young man leaned against the door frame.
He was wearing a perfectly tailored casual suit, and his posture appeared relaxed.
But in those phoenix eyes that bore a resemblance to Shen Yuepo's, there was an undisguised warning.
The air froze instantly.
Madam Shen's smile froze, and she then introduced him: "Wangchuan, this is your sister..."
“Mom, I know who she is,” Shen Wangchuan interrupted Madam Shen.
He scrutinized Shen Yuepo from head to toe, his eyes showing no joy at the reunion, only a deep sense of alienation and wariness.
His thin lips parted slightly, and his voice struck Shen Yuepo with crystal clarity:
“You’re new here. Yu Rou is timid and weak. Stay away from her from now on.”
Upon hearing this, Madam Shen's face turned pale instantly.
Chairman Shen, who was in the front seat, had already gotten out of the car, his face so gloomy it could drip water.
He stepped forward, his voice carrying the imposing authority of a head of household:
"Wangchuan! What are you doing?! This is your sister, Yuepo!"
The courtyard lights fell on Shen Yuepo's cool face, but her expression remained unchanged.
She didn't even look at Shen Wangchuan; her gaze shifted slightly, as if he were just an insignificant wisp of air.
Is this her blood-related brother?
Is this the first hurdle she needs to overcome to sever the karmic connection?
The hostility was expected, but I didn't expect it to be so blatant.
It seems that this younger sister holds a much heavier position in the family than she imagined.
Shen Yuepo raised her eyes, her gaze sweeping lightly over Shen Wangchuan's handsome face, which was filled with warning.
Finally, the light landed on the brightly lit gate of the Shen family's house.
"This... Mr. Shen, don't worry." She didn't even address him as "brother."
"I have no interest in your frail and helpless sister. Nor do I intend to disturb anyone."
She paused, then calmly turned her gaze to Chairman Shen, whose face was ashen, and Madam Shen, who was swaying precariously.
"If your parents are willing to sever their so-called kinship with me right now, I will leave immediately."
"Moon Soul!" Madam Shen's face turned deathly pale instantly, and her body swayed, almost unable to stand.
She no longer cared about her composure, lunged forward, grabbed Shen Wangchuan's wrist tightly, and said sharply:
"Wang Chuan, apologize to your sister!"
Shen Yuepo, too lazy to watch the drama unfold behind him, walked past Shen Wangchuan and entered the main residence of the Shen family.
