"Brother Wolf, there's no one here. Looks like they've left. What should we do?" Brother Huang asked with a fawning smile. Clearly, this outcome was unexpected. If he hadn't wanted to go back and claim credit, leaving someone here to keep watch would have prevented this from happening.
"Go check immediately. I believe he hasn't gone very far." After Canglang finished speaking, he turned to look at Li Jia. "Mr. Li, let's go back first and have the brothers check. I believe we'll have news soon."
Li Jia didn't say anything. She went to the phone in the room and looked at it. She reached out and flipped through the call history. The two phone numbers that came in and went out made Li Jia understand where the doctor had gone.
"Go to the airport immediately. Qian Shi Club should also send someone to keep an eye on things. Cang Lang and I will go to the airport together, and you will come with us to identify people." After Li Jia finished speaking, she turned around and left the house. Cang Lang and that little brother Huang followed her downstairs.
Canglang made a phone call to arrange for someone to keep watch around the Qianshi Club, and then drove straight to the airport. Just now, Li Jia dialed the last number she had ever dialed, and the person on the other end said it was the airport in M City, so Li Jia immediately knew where the doctor was.
In the airport waiting hall, Huang looked around as soon as he entered, and finally saw a middle-aged man wearing a wide-brimmed hat at the very back of the waiting area. He pointed and said, "There!" He was about to run up to him when Li Jia grabbed him and said, "Wait a minute, let's go ask where the next flight is going."
After saying that, Li Jia pretended to be nonchalant and walked to the other side of the waiting area, where she leisurely sat down while looking at the time on the screen in the lobby.
Canglang turned and left the hall; his appearance was hardly suitable for sitting there waiting for a flight. Xiao Huang, on the other hand, immediately went to the check-in counter and somehow managed to find out which flight the doctor was on. He mysteriously approached Li Jia, told her the flight number, and then turned and left.
The doctor, sitting in the innermost corner of the waiting room, wore a wide-brimmed hat that almost completely obscured his face. Had Huang not been so observant, it might have taken him quite some time to spot him. However, this also meant he didn't notice Huang's arrival or that someone was already watching him.
With nearly an hour until takeoff, Li Jia smiled, stood up, and went straight to the airport ticket counter. She bought a ticket for the same flight; since it was still available before departure, there was a significant discount. She exchanged the ticket for a boarding pass and sat down next to the doctor with a smile.
"Where are we going, sir?" Li Jia gently nudged the doctor's arm and asked with a smile.
"Uh! Go to City C." The doctor was taken aback, but his tense mood immediately relaxed when he saw Li Jia's face. Li Jia's appearance was really not associated with the underworld; she was more like a teacher, with a refined and gentle demeanor.
"Oh, me too, going to City C. Looks like we're on the same flight. Hello, my name is Li Jia. I'm a teacher at No. 9 Middle School in City B. I'm going to City C to do a home visit for a student. The student's family is quite poor, and he's already thinking about dropping out of school, but he's a very good student. So I couldn't bear to see such a good student drop out. So I'm going to his home at my own expense to see if his family can let him continue his studies." Li Jia rambled on as if talking to herself. The doctor next to her, whose guarded expression completely relaxed because of Li Jia's rambling, smiled at her, and said, "Being a teacher is really tough."
Seeing that the doctor had relaxed his guard against outsiders, Li Jia continued to nod, praising and feeling sorry for the student she had created. In no time, the doctor was completely inspired by Li Feng's dedication and began to chat with Li Jia.
"Alright, it's time to board. Let's chat on the plane. Hehe, you're quite my type, teacher. When we get to City C, we can go to my house and my wife will cook a nice meal for us to have a drink." In just half an hour, Li Jia successfully became friends with the doctor. Although the doctor didn't talk about his past, he had a deep liking for Li Jia.
On the plane, because the tickets were not sold out, the seating was not strictly assigned. As a result, Li Jia and the doctor, who were not originally seated next to each other, ended up sitting together because they were both very talkative.
"Brother, you said you used to be a doctor, so you must have seen a lot of patients. My grandfather died of a stroke before the holidays. Although the hospital did its best, my grandfather was already 101 years old. The doctor said that his death was not due to a stroke, but because his bodily functions had completely stopped, which is what people call dying of old age." Li Jia intentionally or unintentionally steered the conversation towards the doctor. The doctor, however, was completely at ease. He was already on the plane, and once he got off, he would be gone forever. Therefore, he still had a lot of experience and insights in his professional field.
"Yes, aging is also known as degeneration. Human aging is an irreversible degenerative phenomenon that occurs with age. How to control and delay aging has been a research topic in the medical field for many years. Unfortunately, the secrets of human genes still cannot be unlocked." The doctor spoke in a few professional terms, and then looked out the window, as if recalling his past glory.
After a flight of nearly two and a half hours, the plane landed at Baiyun Airport in City C. The doctor and Li Jia exchanged a few simple pleasantries before the doctor left. Before leaving, Li Jia gave him a hug and watched him go. After he hailed a taxi, a slight smile appeared on Li Jia's lips. She took out her earphones from her pocket, hailed a taxi, and said, "Follow that car in front, keep within fifty meters. I'll give you two hundred yuan, how about it?"
