Chapter 143 Mercenaries

After finishing her cigarette, Li Jia had a plan in mind. She went into the house and looked at Jiang Songbai, who had just hung up the phone. "Uncle Jiang, could you give me Uncle Ou's phone number? I want to talk to him about something."

“Okay, XXXXXXX,” Jiang Songbai said, reciting a string of numbers. Li Jia took out her phone, saved the number, turned around, went out, and dialed the number in front of the building’s huge floor-to-ceiling glass screen.

"Who is this?" The voice on the phone was young, not Ou Songbai. "I'm looking for Uncle Ou, my surname is Li." Li Jia succinctly stated his identity. After a moment, Ou Baishi's voice came from the other end of the phone, "Young Li, I happen to have something to discuss with you. Tell me what it is!"

"My matter is very simple. Could you help me find out who the employer is? With your connections, you should be able to find out quickly, right?" Li Jia didn't believe that Ou Boshi couldn't find out, so he made it clear from the start. Upon hearing Li Feng's words, Ou Boshi laughed and said, "You're still as shrewd as ever!"

After saying this, Ou Boshi paused slightly, then said, "Young Li, does our agreement still stand?" His loud voice became serious. Li Jia was taken aback when he heard Ou Boshi's words. "Of course it stands. I never make promises I can't keep."

"Alright, wait for me at the dry cleaner tomorrow night." After saying that, the old man hung up the phone. Li Jia looked at the disconnected number on her phone and thought, "Finally, I have a chance!" She returned to Jiang Songbai's office after a moment of relief.

Just before the end of the workday, the real lawyer, Liu Han, appeared in the office. Liu Han lived up to his name; his cold face showed no emotion, and his eyes behind his black-rimmed glasses gleamed. Of course, this Liu Han was a real man, not some woman.

Sitting opposite Jiang Songbai, Liu Han clearly and methodically explained the follow-up work. In just fifteen minutes, the communication was completed, an astonishingly efficient process. "Mr. Jiang, then it's decided. I'll take my leave now!" Liu Han said, getting up to leave.

"Mr. Jiang, the car is ready to leave at any time." Xiao San pushed open the door and came in. She said to Jiang Songbai and Li Jia, "Okay, let's go. By the way, Xiao Lan, please make an appointment with the manager of Jin Dun Security this afternoon. I want to talk to him." Before leaving, Jiang Songbai gave this instruction to his secretary over the phone, and then walked out of the building under the protection of Xiao San and Xiao Liu.

A black Audi A8 was parked in front of the building. Of course, it was modified, with bulletproof glass, solid tires, and a full steel body. Jiang Songbai opened the car door and got in. Miller, who hadn't been seen since leaving that morning, was the driver. Xiao San and Xiao Liu sat on either side of Jiang Songbai, while Li Jia sat in the front passenger seat. "Let's go. Back to the villa."

They returned to the villa peacefully. Jiang Ling had arrived at Jiang Songbai's villa early, and while waiting for dinner, she and Li Jia sat down and chatted. "Why do you live there?" Li Jia had been wanting to ask Jiang Ling about living alone in Tianxiang Garden ever since she witnessed Jiang Songbai's wealth. Given how much Jiang Songbai doted on Jiang Ling, it was absolutely impossible for him to allow Jiang Ling to live there alone.

"Is it strange? I started living there two years ago. At that time, my grandfather left China to go to Canada for medical treatment, so I moved out too." Jiang Ling's explanation was a bit far-fetched, but Li Jia didn't press further. How one chooses to live is entirely a matter of personal freedom, so it's not surprising that Jiang Ling chose to live there. No one says that rich people have to live in mansions.

"Hehe, by the way, why haven't we seen Lincoln, the one who's been with you, come back?" Li Jia smiled after hearing Jiang Ling's answer, then changed the subject and asked about the situation of Jiang Songbai's other bodyguard, Lincoln.

"Him? I don't know. He's a big, dark guy who's always following me around. Several of my colleagues keep asking me who he is. It's so annoying. Who knows where he's off to right now?" Jiang Ling said, then stood up and went into the bathroom. Jiang Songbai came down from upstairs at that moment.

I sat down next to Li Jia. "Li Jia, what are you and Ling'er talking about? You seem so happy."

"Nothing much. By the way, Uncle Jiang, what's the background of those two bodyguards with you? I sensed a strong smell of blood on Miller; he must be more than just a bodyguard." Li Jia's words immediately piqued Jiang Songbai's interest. He nodded approvingly at Li Jia. "Good eye. That's right, he's not a bodyguard, but a mercenary, like Lincoln, but from a different organization..."

Jiang Songbai's words piqued Li Jia's interest. Perhaps it was because the peaceful days had lasted too long, but when these familiar names came to her ears, she couldn't help but recall some things from the past. The final scene always froze on a figure rising and falling in the rolling sea, and after a huge wave, the figure disappeared into the sea...

“Miller is a C-rank mercenary from Cobra, and Lincoln is a C-rank mercenary from Sand Wolves. You should know these two mercenary organizations, right? They were once two incredibly glorious mercenary teams. Unfortunately, they both took on a mission during the US invasion of Iraq and fell into a trap, almost completely annihilated. Only a group of low-ranking mercenaries who didn't see combat survived, and these two were among them. I rescued them when I was surveying the desert. Now, my contracts with them are about to expire, specifically this week, which means there are only three days left.” Jiang Songbai saw Jiang Ling come out of the bathroom and immediately stopped the conversation. He stood up, smiled at Li Jia, and said, “Let's go get something to eat.”
