Chapter 153 Dismissal

At the dinner table, Li Xiaoqing announced some very happy news for her: "Great news! Isn't archaeology your favorite subject? You must seize this opportunity and try to make a name for yourself. That way, you can become a good archaeology expert after graduation. Good luck!"

Li Jia knew that her younger sister was most passionate about archaeology. She was incredibly fascinated by the culture, customs, and traditions of various dynasties. The majority of the books in their home were also related to archaeology, so this opportunity before graduation was truly a once-in-a-lifetime chance for her.

"Xiaoyan, you're a senior in high school now. Which university do you want to go to?" Li Jia put down her chopsticks, picked up her water glass, took a sip, and asked her younger brother.

"Bark!" Li Yan's words were crisp and clear. Without any hesitation, his eyes were filled with confidence. After speaking, he put a piece of beef into his mouth and chewed it vigorously, as if the act of chewing the beef was a demonstration of his fighting prowess.

"By the way, Xiaoqing, where are you going to do your research?" Li Jia turned to ask Li Xiaoqing, as she also had some interest in archaeology.

"The Black City Ruins!" Li Xiaoqing exclaimed, her eyes filled with longing. She paused, then added, "The professor said it's on the grasslands of Inner Mongolia. I've never been to the grasslands before, and this is finally my chance! But I've heard the weather there is very cold right now. I wonder if I can handle it?" Li Xiaoqing tilted her head, lost in her daydreams…

"No way?" Li Feng sighed inwardly after hearing Li Xiaoqing's words. Although Li Jia didn't know if the Black City Ruins were the same place she was going to, they were both on the Inner Mongolian grasslands. They should be close by, but after arriving at the Inner Mongolian grasslands, Li Jia realized how wrong her initial assumptions were.

"What can't you do?" Li Xiaoqing heard Li Jia mutter to herself and immediately asked.

“I’m going to Inner Mongolia in a couple of days. There’s something very important I need to do…” Li Jia said, and the other three people at the table immediately showed different expressions. Li Yan looked completely indifferent. Li Xiaoqing was so excited she almost jumped up. And Zhou Xiaoyu looked extremely disappointed. Li Jia read different meanings in these faces. “Hehe. Okay. Eat up. We’ll be surprised later.”

Li Jia's words made everyone realize what was happening. They all lowered their heads and began to eat voraciously...

"Li Jia, what have you been doing all this time? Get out here right now. Meet me at Green Island Coffee Shop in half an hour, the one on Zhongzhou Road!" Wang Xiao's phone call after dinner instantly banished Li Jia's sleepiness, who was just about to take a nap. She quickly got dressed and went out the door.

At Green Island Coffee on Zhongzhou Road, Li Jia was facing Wang Xiao, who was fuming. "Dai, what happened? Where have you been these past few days? Do you know the school has already issued a disciplinary notice for you?" She hadn't even finished her coffee. Upon seeing Li Jia, Wang Xiao launched into a tirade without a word! "Stop, stop, stop! I'll confess. I'll be honest, don't get angry. I was handling some important national business these past few days. But I should have asked for leave, right?" As soon as Li Jia finished speaking, Wang Xiao raised her hand to slap her. "Stop!" Li Jia quickly reached out to stop the slap that was about to come down. "I mean it. I asked for leave, didn't I?"

"You did ask for leave, but you didn't cancel it in time. Now the school leaders are furious. It's even alarmed the education department. I don't know which powerful person you offended, but an inspection team has come down to investigate you personally, to find out if you're really a miner!" Wang Xiao finished speaking and angrily picked up his coffee and took a sip.

"Really? Even if I skipped work, it shouldn't have involved the education department, right?" Li Jia asked, somewhat annoyed. Seeing Wang Xiao's irritated expression, she added, "So what was the result? What was the outcome?"

"What's the result? Fired!" Wang Xiao said irritably.
