Emily's car slammed on the brakes and tried to turn around, but the excessive speed caused it to overturn. Xiaolong immediately kicked open the door and pulled Emily out. The environment offered little cover, with only the dark grass on the right side of the road and the distant, undulating branches of the Apennine Mountains on the left. Their only chance was to escape into the mountains. If they couldn't reach the hills about 500 or 600 meters from the roadside, there would be only one outcome: death!
The weapons that Da Hu brought with him opened fire as soon as they found their target, but unfortunately, the enemy was too numerous and had strong firepower. The barrage of fire almost completely suppressed Emily and the others. As the encirclement was about to be formed, even a look of despair appeared on Uncle Liang's face.
Emily and Xiaolong, hand in hand, took advantage of the cover of night and ran frantically towards the hilly area on the left side of the road. Behind them, the three surviving henchmen returned fire frantically. Although the pitch-black night and the blinding lights made it impossible to see any enemies, they still fired aimlessly, hoping to get Emily into the mountains.
"Big Tiger, tell someone to turn off the car lights! We're at a huge disadvantage right now!" Liang Bo, enduring the sharp pain in his arm, lay prone in the grass with his AK-47 in hand and shouted to Big Tiger beside him, "Okay! Call Four-Eyes over here!"
Upon receiving the order, Da Hu immediately shouted, and one of his henchmen jumped up and ran out. He ran to a patch of grass less than ten meters from Liang Bo and the others, and called over the henchman known as "Four-Eyes." Da Hu took Four-Eyes's place. The moment he crouched down, a bullet, at least 7.62mm in caliber, shattered his skull with a "whoosh!" His half-headed body slumped into the grass with a thud, and the heavy stench of blood immediately filled Da Hu's nostrils. "Xiao Guang! Damn it! I'll fight you to the death! Four-Eyes, quickly smash those lights! I need to see clearly who these bastards are!"
Da Hu witnessed Xiao Guang's death. A surge of rage instantly ignited within him. He swept his gun horizontally towards the area around the headlights. "Ah! Thud!" A shout rang out, indicating he had been hit by an enemy. Hearing the enemy's cry, Da Hu fired the remaining twenty-odd bullets from his magazine in groups of three, targeting the headlights of the moving car.
A dozen or so vehicles slowly approached the location where Uncle Liang and the others were hiding. Emily and Xiaolong were forced by the enemy's powerful firepower to be unable to retreat to their destination, so they had no choice but to head towards Uncle Liang and the others! When Emily and Xiaolong arrived at the location where Uncle Liang, Dahu and the others were hiding, the enemy's vehicles suddenly exploded violently!
One of the dozen or so cars, billowing smoke, was launched into the air. The two cars closest to it were also affected by the blast. As the car that exploded fell to the ground, it struck another car that couldn't dodge in time, sending both cars flying into the air once more. The billowing flames illuminated the scene in the air!
By the light of the fire, Uncle Liang was finally able to see the number of enemies and their approximate distribution!
The moment the explosion occurred, the other vehicles immediately turned around and shone their headlights at the vehicle that had exploded. Combined with the flames from the exploding vehicle, this allowed Uncle Liang and the others to clearly see the people in the remaining eleven vehicles. They were a group of guys dressed in colorful uniforms! Each of them was carrying either an AK-47 or a UZI, typical equipment of hardened criminals!
Liang Bo's side primarily used AK-47s, with only three relatively stable MP7s. Compared to the opposing side's roughly 50/50 ratio, this was a significant disadvantage.
Just as Uncle Liang and the others felt a chill run down their spines, another explosion occurred in the other convoy! This time, the car closest to the middle exploded, flying into the air with flames and thick smoke billowing out!
"Retreat! Get into the hills!" Uncle Liang immediately gave the order! Xiao Long pulled Emily away and ran into the distance, while Da Hu and Uncle Liang quickly changed their hiding place amidst the flames, patiently aiming and firing their guns!
These two unexplained explosions provided Liang Bo and his men with an excellent opportunity to escape, turning them from the open into the shadows! Liang Bo wouldn't let this opportunity pass; he grabbed Da Hu and several other henchmen, and they all took advantage of the moment to lie prone in the grass, waiting for the sun to rise. Meanwhile, Xiao Long, with Emily in tow, also left the battlefield, followed by two of Da Hu's men who had been sent to protect her. Each carried an MP7 and several green grenades; clearly, Liang Bo and Da Hu had allocated a large portion of their firepower to protect Emily, leaving those remaining on the battlefield with insufficient ammunition.
Indeed, Uncle Liang, Da Hu, and the four men left behind each only had one spare magazine left. The only saving grace was that all six of them carried AK-47s, so their ammo wasn't running out too quickly. After all, anyone familiar with these cost-effective AKs knows they have the strongest recoil in their class. Three or more shots in a row basically ruins accuracy. So, Uncle Liang and the others were basically using their AKs like their hands, firing them one by one!
The enemy's panic didn't last long. After losing a third of their men, they immediately refocused their attention on Liang Bo's side. The remaining cars were spread out and quickly advanced towards Liang Bo and his men. The blinding headlights once again caused Liang Bo and his men to lose their advantage. After a frantic sweep, Liang Bo's side was left with only him, Da Hu, and one of his underlings, all three of them with injuries.
