"Let's eat, everyone start eating together." After Jiang Ling finished speaking, she took the lead and picked up a piece of pickled cabbage and put it into the porridge bowl. Then everyone started eating together.
Standing by the table watching the group of people eating, Li Jia felt a warm feeling rising in her heart. Li Xiaoqing, Li Xiaotong, Li Yan, Jiang Ling'er, and herself really felt like a family of five. Throughout the meal, Li Jia's lips never stopped smiling.
After the meal, none of the group spoke; they simply ate quietly. It seemed that the others also sensed the special atmosphere of the meal and were unwilling to break the warm ambiance.
After finishing their meal, Li Xiaoqing got up to clear the dishes, while Li Yan said goodbye to Li Jia and Jiang Ling and returned to his room. Li Xiaotong glanced at Li Jia with a complicated expression before also returning to her room.
"Xiaoqing, you should get some rest. Brother Li is leaving now. Thank you for your hospitality. The rice porridge was delicious!" After dinner, Li Jia stayed for a little while longer before getting up to leave. She turned around, opened the door, and Jiang Ling followed her out.
As Li Jia and Jiang Ling stepped out of the room, Li Xiaotong's bedroom door opened a crack, and a pair of wary and expectant eyes stared at Li Jia's back until Li Jia closed the door, at which point the bedroom door closed again.
Downstairs, Li Jia stood in front of the car, recalling the meal she had just eaten. "Officer Jiang, there's a big difference between how they are at home and how they are outside."
“Yes, they’re all good kids, but they lack family love, so they protect themselves in various ways.” After Jiang Ling’er finished speaking, she looked closely at Li Jia’s somewhat sentimental expression. “You seem to… really enjoy being with them?”
