Chapter 3 First Encounter

Jiang Ling noticed a hint of surprise in Li Jia's expression. Could it really be him? "Where were you around 4:30 pm three days ago?" Jiang Ling asked urgently.

"I'm not ashamed to say it, but I was taken hostage. Haha, I still feel a little scared when I think about it now." Li Jia put down the coins and bullets she was holding and leaned back in her chair, seemingly recalling the situation.

"Tell me what happened. I'm a police officer, and I'll stand up for the citizens." Jiang Ling looked at Li Jia, whose face was a little pale, and then patted her chest loudly to make a promise.

"Do you really want to hear it?" Li Jia asked Jiang Ling, who was full of curiosity, with some uncertainty.

"Yes, of course I want to hear it. I'm a police officer, so it's my responsibility to understand what happened so that I can make a fair judgment on those robbers." Jiang Ling said this with a little guilt. Although she had been promoted to the position of elite member of the team after that incident, "I don't know if this guy in front of me did it. If it really was him, I would be so ashamed. I took the blame for what someone else did. If it weren't for the doubled salary, I would never have bothered to be an elite member. Facing vicious criminals every day, just thinking about it makes me terrified."

"Okay, here's what happened that day. I was on my way to Blue Tianda to pick up a custom-made pendant. As soon as I drove to the entrance of the mall and was looking for a place to park, those guys rushed out from inside. They were holding handguns, and one of them pointed a gun at my head and told me to drive. I had no choice but to obey them and drive like crazy until I reached the entrance to the outer ring expressway. Only then did they get out of the car."

But at that moment, it seemed like they were going to kill me to silence me. I was so scared that I quickly took out all the money I had and gave it to them, but they still didn't intend to let me go. I was so frightened that I squatted on the ground. Then I heard two gunshots, and I passed out. When I woke up, my car was parked in the parking lot of Blue Tianda, and I was in the passenger seat. Li Jia seemed to still have lingering fears after she finished speaking, and a layer of fine sweat appeared on her forehead.

"Is that all?" Jiang Ling was greatly disappointed after hearing this, and almost immediately rejected her own idea. "This young man is thin and has a refined appearance. He can't possibly be the owner of the coin. So who is the owner of the coin?"

"That's it. With my small frame, do you think I'm that powerful? If I were really that powerful, I would have taken care of those guys when I got in the car. Why would I have been in such a sorry state, with a gun pointed at my head? And almost got into a car accident several times before finally getting to where they wanted me to go? Officer Jiang, you must find the owner of this coin. I want to thank him in person. You must find him!" Li Jia seemed very excited. Suddenly, she grabbed Jiang Ling's hand and held it tightly. Jiang Ling felt the slight coolness from Li Jia's palm and completely rejected her own idea.

"I will definitely find him, don't worry." Jiang Ling looked at the man in front of her and suddenly felt that he was actually quite pitiful, but also very lucky. She gently patted Li Jia's hand with her other hand and comforted him softly.

"Okay, thank you, officer. To repay you, I've decided to give you a 20% discount membership card for my store. Send me any clothes you need, and I'll make sure they're cleaned thoroughly. Here's the membership card; please accept it." After saying this, Li Jia took out a light yellow magnetic card from her pocket and stuffed it into Jiang Ling's hand without further ado.

"Alright then, thank you." Jiang Ling didn't refuse much and put the card away. She then got up, said goodbye to Li Jia, and left the noodle shop. Li Jia watched Jiang Ling's back with a faint smile, got up, paid the bill, and returned to her car.

"Brother Li, what did that lady want from you? Did you do something wrong? The police have come knocking on your door." Xiaoyu looked at Li Jia's faint smile and leaned her big eyes closer to examine him carefully.

"Xiaoyu, let me ask you a question. Do you think I could do anything bad with my build? This small frame wouldn't even be enough for a police officer to punch." After Li Jia finished speaking, he fastened Zhou Xiaoyu's seatbelt and patted her head. "Don't think about those things. Let's go back and discuss things at the store."

“Okay,” Zhou Xiaoyu stopped asking Li Jia questions and sat quietly in the car, watching the tall buildings on both sides move backward, her eyes filled with a strong sense of novelty.

Back at the dry cleaner, Li Jia chatted with Zhou Xiaoyu for a while before returning to her study. She opened her laptop, a cold glint in her dark eyes. During the few dozen seconds it took for the computer to boot up, Li Jia opened the pen slot on the outside of her desk drawer and took out a one-yuan coin with a bullet clip attached. "The one I missed was found after all..."

Holding the coin, Li Jia pondered for a moment before putting it back in the card slot. The computer was already running. Li Jia clicked on a browser icon on the desktop and then rapidly typed in a website address—the internal website of the Student Records Management Office of the B City Education Bureau. She entered her secretly created advanced account, logged in, and expertly found the information she needed. She then printed it out using the printer next to her. It was a thick stack of documents, containing everything from kindergarten to the present: "Li Xiaoqing, 22 years old, History Department, B University, sophomore, excellent academic performance; Li Xiaotong, 19 years old, B City No. 9 Middle School, senior, poor academic performance; Li Yan, 17 years old, B City No. 9 Middle School, junior, national outstanding student."
