It was nearly noon when Li Jia left the advertising company. Having been in this city for almost two months, she had a special fondness for this highly developed commercial city. As she drove, she carefully observed every detail of the city. Every now and then, she could see many young men and women enthusiastically working in front of their phone screens, expressing their gratitude with phrases like "Thank you for your attention, big brother, please give me some small likes and comments." It was quite interesting. For Li Jia, who had been out of the workforce for many years, live streaming was a very new experience.
While driving aimlessly, Li Jia inadvertently spotted a bustling street. She slowed down and rolled down the window. A rich aroma wafted from the narrow street into her nose, instantly making her feel hungry. She parked the car and, in high spirits, walked into B City's most famous snack street.
The dazzling array of snacks on both sides made Li Jia feel overwhelmed. She walked from one end of the street to the other, then turned back and ordered an extra spicy bowl of rice noodles at a relatively less crowded cross-bridge rice noodle shop.
"Sir, here's your rice noodles. Eat quickly and leave as soon as you're done." The owner was dressed simply in the typical clothing of a Yunnan ethnic minority. His wrinkled face showed a worried expression. He placed the hot rice noodles in front of Li Jia, said this, and then turned to attend to other matters.
Li Jia found the old man's words a bit strange. With a question in mind, he picked up his chopsticks and started eating. This bowl of rice noodles, which cost ten yuan, made Li Jia feel more satisfied than ever before. "Young man, eat quickly and leave as soon as you're done. Remember not to come during mealtimes next time."
The old man's words made Li Jia even more puzzled. It was the first time he had ever seen a boss like this, eating in his own shop while constantly urging customers to eat quickly. This was somewhat illogical. Moreover, Li Jia then noticed something strange: earlier, every shop from one end of the street to the other was crowded, but this Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles shop had very few customers, and now Li Jia was the only one eating there.
"Grandpa, your rice noodles are so delicious, why don't many people come to eat them?" Li Jia was a little puzzled by the old man's behavior, so she put down her chopsticks and asked curiously.
"Hey, young man, hurry up and eat. Leave as soon as you're done, or you'll be in danger," the old man said, turning back to the stove to start cooking. Li Jia was puzzled and before she could ask any more questions, a few people walked in through the door. There were five of them: three women and two men. Judging from their attire, they were clearly not good people.
"Old man, today is the last day. If you don't tell us where your bastard daughter is, we'll have no choice but to tear down your shop." The leader was actually a woman, about 1.65 meters tall, dressed in fashionable clothes, and her age was definitely no more than twenty-five years old, except that her face was somewhat colorful.
"I don't know. That kind of person has nothing to do with me. If you want to find her, go find her husband." Although the old man was somewhat afraid of these people, the mention of his daughter made him even more contemptuous.
"Don't give me that, old man. I'll ask you one more time, where is that bitch?" The woman in the lead grabbed the old man's collar.
"I...I told you I don't know where she is. If you want to find her, go find her husband. What's the use of coming to this old man every day?" The old man seemed to have a deep grievance against his daughter.
"Old bastard, you're asking for trouble! Tear this place down! Tear down this lousy shop! How dare you seduce my husband! We'll tear down the shop today, and beat you to death tomorrow, you old bastard!" After saying that, the woman slapped the old man and threw him away. The two burly thugs behind her immediately started smashing things up inside the shop.
Immediately, the bamboo tables and chairs were overturned, and stacks of bowls and chopsticks were thrown to the ground. Fortunately, the large bowls for the rice noodles were made of plastic, otherwise they would have been shattered. The old man ignored the people who were overturning tables and kicking chairs in the small shop, but kept gesturing to Li Jia with his eyes, "Leave quickly, or you'll suffer the consequences later."
"You can't even eat in peace, sir. Give me another bowl, this rice noodle is really delicious." Li Jia ignored the people causing trouble around her. The bowl on the table was already empty, but she still held it out to the old man, urging him repeatedly, "Sir, what's wrong? Are you not doing business anymore?"
Before the old man could speak, the woman from before swayed her hips and walked up to Li Jia. "Handsome, you'd better get lost now, or Biaozi might flip the table and hurt your clean-cut face, hahaha." After saying that, the woman reached out and gently touched Li Jia's chin, then turned to the two thugs and gestured, "Teach this clueless pretty boy a lesson, then throw him out."
Two men, each a head taller than Li Jia, walked up to her, crossed their arms, stretched, and prepared to overturn her table. "What era is this? How can such a thing still happen?" Li Jia thought incredulously.
"You're going too far! He's just my guest. Please let him go! I beg you, young man, consider today's rice noodles your treat. You should just leave now." The old man suddenly blocked Li Jia's path, then faced the two burly thugs with his thin frame.
An honest, kind-hearted old man, even at this point, was still trying to take responsibility for everything. This kind of person gave Li Jia a strange feeling. For Li Jia, who had seen too much life and death, this didn't move her much. However, what happened next made Li Jia a little annoyed.
