Chapter 8 Lawyer

"Excessive? What's excessive? She didn't steal it this time, but who knows when she might steal it? I've already been more than generous by giving her the tutoring money. What more do you want?" Mrs. Yan said, waving her hand at Li Jia. "Give me back the necklace. I have to go to a banquet, so I won't entertain you all here. I won't see you off."

"Heh, Mrs. Yan, I am now solemnly warning you that your behavior violates Article 1100 of the UN Human Rights Act. I am now suing you for defamation, personal attack, mental slander, and illegal interrogation." Li Jia put the necklace in her pocket, her expression suddenly turning cold, her eyes devoid of any emotion as she stared at Mrs. Yan.

"You, what gives you the right? Who are you, officer? You saw it, he's threatening me! You need to protect the safety of the citizens!" Mrs. Yan was a little guilty, frightened by Li Jia's expression. How did this usually mild-mannered man suddenly become so cold?

"Heh, I'm threatening you? You've committed all three charges I mentioned: falsely accusing Li Xiaoqing of stealing your necklace, using illegal means to interrogate Li Xiaoqing without authorization, and using force, causing multiple injuries to Li Xiaoqing's face and head, and then spreading rumors everywhere that Li Xiaoqing stole your things. Do you know how much psychological damage this caused Li Xiaoqing? Also, you asked who I am? Well, let me tell you, I am Li Jia, the executive lawyer of the United Nations Law Firm, with the right to exercise legal rights in eight countries. Do you think I can't take you to court?" Li Jia's words grew colder with each sentence, until Jiang Ling next to her felt a chill. After saying the last sentence, she took out a business card written entirely in English from her pocket and threw it on the coffee table in front of Mrs. Yan.

"You...you..." Mrs. Yan pointed at Li Jia and suddenly lost all her previous temper. Her tantrums were at most a way of bullying the powerless because she had some money. Unfortunately, this time she chose the wrong target. Li Xiaoqing was not someone anyone could bully. Anyone who dared to touch Li Jia's relatives would definitely not have a good outcome.

"Just wait for the court summons. Also, you'd better keep a close eye on your husband. If he dares to make a move on Li Xiaoqing again, I'll make him regret ever being born." After saying that, Li Jia pulled the stunned Jiang Ling and Li Xiaoqing to leave. At this moment, Mrs. Yan's husband, Mr. Yan, suddenly knelt down in front of his wife and begged her to tell her the truth.

It turns out that her husband took the necklace, intending to give it to Li Xiaoqing at some point. However, Mrs. Yan suddenly wanted to wear the necklace for some reason, but after searching for a long time, she couldn't find it. So she simply blamed it on Li Xiaoqing, because she could see that her husband's attitude towards Li Xiaoqing was ambiguous. She wanted to take this opportunity to get rid of Li Xiaoqing, but things ended up like this.

"Officer... can you... can we settle this privately? I don't want to go to court!" Mrs. Yan grabbed Jiang Ling's arm, pleading. She was quite frightened by the string of charges against Li Jia.

“I’m a police officer, but I have no right to interfere in your private affairs. You can just talk to him directly.” Jiang Ling was happy that Li Jia could teach this shrew a lesson, and spoke in an official tone with a serious expression.

"Sir... what do you think about this?" Mrs. Yan was a little afraid to see Li Jia's eyes, because those eyes were really uncomfortable.

"Settle it out of court? Fine, but I want a written apology, a public statement online to salvage Li Xiaoqing's reputation, and to cover her medical expenses. I'll go to the hospital to examine her injuries in detail and give you the medical bills later. And most importantly, you hit Li Xiaoqing, and I want her to hit you back. There's no room for negotiation. Agree and we'll settle it out of court; disagree and we'll see you in court." Li Jia gave Mrs. Yan about ten seconds to consider. Soon the time was up, and Li Jia turned and prepared to leave.

"Okay, I promise you." Mrs. Yan finally gave in out of fear of the judge's ruling. This kind of woman was a tigress at home, completely ignorant of the law, let alone being put in court. She would probably be too weak to stand up when facing the judge.

Li Jia, expressionless, turned and sat down on the living room sofa. "Medical expenses and a written apology statement—I want to see them in tomorrow morning's news. Otherwise, I guarantee I'll let you experience what it's like inside a cold prison. Now, let's deal with the most important thing." After saying that, Li Jia walked up to Li Xiaoqing. "Xiaoqing, she hit you. Now I want you to hit her back. Do you dare?"

Li Xiaoqing looked at the tall older brother in front of her, reached out and touched her face, seemingly recalling the time when she was hit by a woman. She bit her lip and hesitated for a long time before finally raising her head and giving Li Jia an affirming look.

“Very good! No need to hit her anymore, three slaps will do. Remember, hit her hard!” After Li Jia finished speaking, she turned to look at Mrs. Yan standing next to her. “Do you know what to do?” Mrs. Yan walked up to Li Xiaoqing unwillingly, glaring at her fiercely. She seemed not to believe that Li Xiaoqing would hit her. But before she could feel smug, Li Xiaoqing’s hand slapped her across the face.

After shouting "You!", Mrs. Yan was about to hit him back, but was startled by Li Jia's cold snort and quickly lowered her hand, her eyes filled with deep resentment as she looked at Li Xiaoqing.

"Xiaoqing, did you not eat?" Li Jia was a little annoyed when she saw Li Xiaoqing's actions. The light slap on Mrs. Yan's face didn't seem to have much effect, so she reminded her from behind.

Li Xiaoqing looked at Mrs. Yan in front of her, her lips bleeding from being bitten so hard. After hearing Li Jia's words, she finally raised her hand again. Thinking of how this woman had treated her in the past, she swung her arm and slapped Mrs. Yan hard across the face. This time, a clear handprint appeared immediately after the slap, and Mrs. Yan's lip swelled up. Just as Mrs. Yan was about to get angry, she saw Li Jia behind Li Xiaoqing, her cold eyes staring at her. She trembled and lowered her hand that she was about to raise again.
