"Why should I see you?! Get out of my way! I have to talk to someone. Let's just leave it at that. I'm leaving!" Gouzi still vividly remembered Li Jia's ruthlessness. Seeing Li Jia reminded him of the throbbing pain on his head.
"Heh, let it go? Let it go my ass!" Li Jia rarely swore, but he remembered a guy saying something similar to him at the Emperor's Wine House. "That's probably the tone, yeah, pretty much." After swearing, Li Jia mentally assessed his own tone and momentum. Gouzi didn't expect Li Jia's sudden change of attitude. The group turned to run, but just as Gouzi was about to run, Li Jia had already kicked him in the stomach. Gouzi felt as if his stomach had been hit by a high-speed flying hammer. The suffocating feeling in his chest accompanied his body flying straight out until he crashed into a trash can on the street with a loud bang. The trash can tumbled and rolled away from the violent impact of Gouzi's body.
"Let's go! Go find Tiger!" The first thing Gouzi said after realizing what was happening was to shout at the guy who had run the furthest away. That guy was Gouzi's best buddy, one of the four closest friends who had even gone to brothels together. The guy heard Gouzi's shout, waved from afar to indicate that he understood, and then disappeared into the street.
Li Jia didn't care whether the others existed or not; the person he was looking for was Gouzi. The others were just small fry. Once Gouzi was gone, the others would naturally scatter like monkeys falling from a tree. He would go about his business.
"Gouzi, I've been looking for you for a long time about what happened at Deyuelou. I think this is the time to put an end to it completely. Li Xiaotong is now my sister, and Teacher Hai from earlier is my sister's teacher. These are people you shouldn't touch. In other words, I don't want to see your shadow in my sphere of influence anymore. Do you understand?" Li Jia was indeed in a good mood today, otherwise she wouldn't have been rambling on with Gouzi like this.
"Fuck your mother!" Gouzi suddenly got up from the ground, pulling a dagger from his pocket. Taking advantage of Li Jia squatting in front of him and talking, he stabbed her in the chest, his shouts mixed with blood and spittle sounding hysterical on the street.
"Idiot!" Li Jia grabbed Gouzi's wrist with one hand, pulled him up, and threw him aside. Then, she quickly slammed her elbow into Gouzi's right side of the head. After doing this, Li Jia clapped her hands and walked towards the tea alley. Gouzi, on the other hand, was unconscious. When he woke up, it would be the start of the countdown to becoming a vegetable. It seemed a bit of a waste to use the technology for cultivating vegetables on this kind of person.
They arrived at the entrance of Qingyi Tea House. Li Jia smiled at Hai Mingyue, who was standing nervously at the door, along with her two friends—one a classically beautiful woman, and the other dressed in a distinctly modern, wild style. "It's all settled. I'm going home now. Do you need me to give you a ride?"
“Yes, I think it’s absolutely necessary. It’s too dangerous for Mingyue to walk alone at night. Handsome young man, why don’t you be her protector this time?” The woman dressed in a wild style looked Li Jia up and down and said solemnly.
“Yes, Mingyue. The madman is right. Your outfit today is just too suggestive. This gentleman may not seem very reassuring, but at least he has a car and doesn't have to wait for a taxi on the street.” The woman in the cheongsam chimed in. “Did I say I didn't need him to take me? What are you two so anxious about?” Hai Mingyue stared at her two friends, looking completely bewildered. She then got into Li Jia's car, leaving her two friends looking at each other. “What's wrong with Mingyue?”
"Goodbye, you two." Li Jia smiled at the two women, said goodbye, got into her car, and slowly drove out of the tea alley, heading towards the Bayi Apartment in the night.
The two people in the car listened to music quietly, watching the streets rushing past outside the window. For a moment, Hai Mingyue didn't know what to say, while Li Jia really liked the atmosphere and didn't want to ruin it. So when the car stopped at the entrance of the Bayi Apartment, Hai Mingyue didn't get out. She just sat there quietly, deep in thought.
"Teacher Hai, we're home." Li Jia turned off the music and gently said to Hai Mingyue.
"Oh, we're home. Yes, would you... like to come in and sit for a while?" Hai Mingyue looked at Li Jia's faint smile and snapped out of her reverie. After a slight hesitation, she still extended an invitation to Li Jia.
"If it's convenient, sure." Li Jia didn't refuse Hai Mingyue. He understood Hai Mingyue's current mood; this was the time when she felt most insecure, so Li Jia answered calmly.
"Then... drive... in." After Hai Mingyue finished speaking, she reached out and turned the music in the car back on, rolled down her side window, greeted the security guard at the gate as she passed through, and then Li Jia's Passat drove into the area where retired cadres of City B gathered.
This was Li Jia's first time here. The residential buildings inside all had a simple appearance, with tall floors and huge floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize the amount of sunlight inside. The community had complete fitness facilities, as well as various chess and card rooms and gateball courts. The streetlights illuminated every dark corner of the community.
Due to time constraints, almost everyone in the community was already asleep, with only one or two households still having their lights on. Following Hai Mingyue's directions, the Passat stopped in front of building C-9 at the very back of the community. After getting out of the car, Hai Mingyue and Li Jia quietly walked into the building. Hai Mingyue lived on the first floor, and the entrance was on the left after entering the building.
