Chapter 221 One Wave Subsides, Another Rises

"Huh? What are you going to do?" Li Jia was taken aback when she heard Hai Mingyue's words, but then she understood what Hai Mingyue was thinking. So she smiled and shook her head. "Don't check anymore. What do you want to know? I'll tell you."

After Li Jia finished speaking, he pulled Hai Mingyue into his arms, gently kissed her cheek, and then whispered in her ear.

Hai Mingyue was slowly melted by Li Jia's embrace, abandoning the idea she had been insisting on. She gently nodded in Li Jia's arms, "I want to know everything. I want to know everything about you. I want to understand everything about you."

Li Jia listened to the murmurs of the person in her arms, nodded gently, and then slowly began to speak...

When Li Jia talked about the dangers she encountered while searching for her younger sister in Florence, Hai Mingyue's body visibly stiffened. Although Li Jia spoke calmly, Hai Mingyue could clearly sense that it must have been extremely dangerous, which is why she was worried for Li Jia.

"!!!" Just as the two were lying on the sofa quietly talking and listening, the phone suddenly rang, interrupting their conversation. The next second after Hai Mingyue answered the phone, her peaceful face turned pale, tears streamed down her face, and the phone in her hand fell to the ground with a clatter.

"Yue'er! What happened?" Li Jia jumped over in one step and hugged Hai Mingyue, asking with concern. "Dad... Dad, he's been kidnapped..." As soon as Hai Mingyue said this, Li Jia was stunned and immediately began to think about the reason. "Don't worry, I'll ask you a few questions, and you must tell me very accurately."

Hai Mingyue nodded frantically, tears welling up in her eyes.

What industry does your father work in abroad?

“He did nothing; he lived out his days in San Francisco, though his health had never been very good.”

"Do you have any enemies or people you've had conflicts with in the country?"

"I don't know about that. My father was a government official in China. After he retired, he went to the United States because my mother lives there too..."

What did the person on the phone say to you?

"He only said one sentence: 'Your father is in my hands now. If you don't want him to suffer, prepare five million US dollars in cash…'"

After a series of questions from Li Jia, it was initially determined to be a kidnapping case motivated by extortion. She finally managed to calm Hai Mingyue down. Holding Hai Mingyue, Li Jia racked her brains for a solution, but she couldn't rest easy leaving the matter to anyone else. With a wry smile, she said, "Yue'er, we're going to America, right away. I'll handle your father's situation! Trust me! Your father will be alright!"

Upon hearing Li Jia's words, Hai Mingyue's eyes immediately lit up, and she recalled what Li Jia had just told her. If what Li Jia said was true, then Li Jia absolutely had the ability to resolve the matter perfectly! Because in Hai Mingyue's heart, her hero was an omnipotent being! Only the omnipotent could be called a hero!

"Okay! I believe you! Jia! When are we leaving? I need to get ready!" Hai Mingyue wiped away her tears and muttered as she walked into her bedroom.

Li Jia grabbed Hai Mingyue and pulled her into a tight hug. "Alright, there's no need to rush. Get some rest tonight, and we'll set off early tomorrow morning!"

Seeing Li Jia's confident gaze, Hai Mingyue hesitated for a moment. Then she nodded. Before entering the bedroom, she said to Li Jia, "Jia, don't leave. Stay here with me."

Li Jia nodded, then smiled and escorted Hai Mingyue into the bedroom. She sat on the sofa, took out her phone, and habitually dialed Cang Lang's number. "Prepare two plane tickets to America for tomorrow morning..."

Night fell silently under the starry sky. Li Jia leaned back on the sofa with her eyes closed, her mind wandering to whether she should use her connections in America, and if so, how. Meanwhile, in her bedroom, Hai Mingyue stared wide-eyed at the ceiling, her mind replaying the voice from the phone call, the stiff Chinese lingering in her head.

"Jia, I can't sleep." After a long while, Hai Mingyue pushed open the bedroom door, came to Li Jia's side, curled up on the sofa, and then lay in Li Jia's arms, murmuring softly.

"Don't think about it anymore. Your father is safe now. Don't worry, he won't be hurt in any way." Li Jia held Hai Mingyue, whose face was pale and haggard, in her arms and gently stroked her face, which was originally as beautiful as a lily. The slight warmth from her palm gradually calmed Hai Mingyue down. Under Li Jia's gentle massage, Hai Mingyue fell into a deep sleep. At this moment, Li Jia made up her mind.

He picked up his phone, logged into the network, edited a line of code, sent it, then put the phone on vibrate and waited for a reply.

Almost immediately, his phone vibrated. Li Jia picked it up and opened his email. The contents made him smile faintly. After thinking for a moment, he edited a message and sent it again.

This time, the other party arrived even faster, which made Li Jia quite gratified. After so many years, those guys still respected her so much, even replying to her messages in broken Chinese.

"Please help me find out the truth as soon as possible. I want to resolve this as soon as I get to the United States. Is that alright?" This was the last sentence Li Jia sent, and the other party's reply was simple: "No problem!"
