Behind a raised mound of earth, there were some very faint traces of human camouflage. Only after Li Jia squatted down and restored the traces on the ground did he understand why the sniper had disappeared!
The marks of the prone position on the ground were not very obvious, but through Li Jia's careful search, he found a discarded bullet casing, which was something that had been ejected from the gun after the bullet was fired.
“NATO standard 5.56 rounds, no wonder it moves so fast!” Li Jia said to himself with a smile as he looked at the letters on the shell casing.
There aren't many firearms that use the NATO standard 5.56 round, the most famous of which is the AUG assault rifle. The AUG assault rifle has power comparable to a regular sniper rifle, and its noise level is also comparable, but its rate of fire is much faster. Although this gun has a lot of recoil, if you add a specially modified high-angle scope, it becomes the best alternative to a bulky sniper rifle.
An AUG assault rifle, with a standard barrel and without a magazine, weighs only 3.6 kilograms. Compared to those heavy behemoths, this gun is undoubtedly more convenient and faster to maneuver.
After confirming the sniper's equipment, Li Jia immediately increased the speed of their advance in the mountain pass. The sniper was also very patient and did not fire another shot. Night slowly fell, and the stars in the sky were gradually obscured by the dark clouds drifting in from afar. At the foot of this seemingly peaceful Apennine Mountains, however, a strong killing intent was hidden.
After advancing another two hundred meters along the ravine, Li Jia's figure suddenly slowed down. If you didn't look carefully, you couldn't even see Li Jia's figure. He stood in the shadows like a piece of wood, motionless, without even a sound of breathing.
For a full half hour, a gray figure slowly rose from behind a sloping hill, a dozen meters away from Li Jia. Holding an AUG assault rifle, the figure moved slowly down the ravine.
As the figure stood up, Li Jia suddenly opened her slightly closed eyes, her body flashing out of the shadows like a ghost. In a second, she was behind the sniper. Her revolver slammed against the back of the sniper's head. "You'd better not move!...Bang!"
Clearly, Li Jia's warning had no effect. The sniper drew a pistol from his waist, aimed it at Li Jia under his arm, and Li Jia could only shake his head and pull the trigger. A 9mm bullet burst from the Anacon revolver. The extremely close-range shot turned the sniper's head into a rotten watermelon, and the body rolled down the ravine. The grass-green AGU assault rifle also fell in front of Li Jia.
"The gun is well modified, but it's a pity that he was too confident!" Li Jia muttered to himself as he looked at the gun lying on the ground.
Indeed, if the sniper hadn't been so overconfident, his first shot would have hit one of Li Jia's three companions, instead of puncturing all three tires of the car! The sniper, who had approached the situation with a cat-and-mouse game mentality, never expected to encounter a true master. He needlessly lost his life.
"Come out. It's alright now." Li Jia returned to the road and whispered to the empty night sky beside it. Then, Xiao Long and Xiao Yue appeared in a grassy hollow in the distance. The feeling of not daring to move for almost an hour was truly unpleasant, but thankfully they both seemed relatively relaxed, which gave Li Jia a small sigh of relief.
"This is troublesome. It's four o'clock in the morning, and there's no village or shop in sight. The car is also destroyed. It looks like we'll have to walk!" Xiaolong said, looking at Xiaoyue. He was worried about whether Xiaoyue's body could handle it, because the nearest town was probably four or five hours away on foot.
"Let's walk then. If we're lucky, we might catch a ride!" Xiaoyue said casually. After saying that, she slung her M4 over her shoulder and walked towards the road. Li Jia looked at Xiaolong and said, "Let's go!"
The three of them walked along the road leading to Florence. As the night gradually faded and the first rays of dawn shone on their faces, the shadow of a small town finally appeared ahead. By now, they had been walking for three hours, much faster than the expected four hours.
"Are we just going to walk into town like this?" Xiao Long looked at the weapons in the group's hands, stopped, and asked. "You guys wait here for me!" Li Jia said, quickly walking into town. About half an hour later, Li Jia emerged from town with a canvas travel bag in her hand. She put three M4 pistols inside, and Xiao Long slung it over her shoulder. Then, Li Jia handed two revolvers from her own person to Xiao Yue and Xiao Long. "Spoils of war, they look pretty nice. One for each of you! Take them for self-defense!"
Xiaoyue didn't stand on ceremony. She took a smaller revolver, turned it once, and then spun it back into the gun. After spinning the gun on her finger, she put it into her waistband.
Xiao Long nodded, took the Anacon, casually tucked it into his lower back, and then covered it with his jacket. The three of them then walked into the town with smiles on their faces.
This small town is called Michel. It has a tiny train station that goes to Arezzo. There is only one train a day that departs from this town and goes directly to Arezzo. After arriving in Arezzo, the train stays for four hours before returning to Michel.
By this time, the restaurants in town had already started their day's business. Li Jia and the other two were sitting in a restaurant eating steak. After fighting for most of the night and traveling a long distance, their stomachs were growling with hunger.
