"Heh, how would I know? You think I know? Go back and tell Horton Charles to wash his neck and wait for me to take his head off!" After Li Jia finished speaking, the dart in her hand left the big man's throat, but her feet did not stop moving. She twisted the necks of several people who had fainted on the ground right in front of the big man, and then leisurely walked out of the room, leaving a big man with a look of fear on his face.
Just as the big man realized what was happening and was about to push open the door and run out, he found Li Jia standing outside the door, smiling and staring at him. That smile was as chilling as a devil's smile.
“Uh, my darling.” Li Jia said with a smile, then pointed to the dart that was already embedded in the bone of the big man’s wrist. The big man stared blankly at Li Jia, letting her put his other wrist into his mouth. Then, a sharp pain suddenly came from the wrist that was pierced by the dart. He reflexively bit down hard on his wrist. By the time the big man had managed to endure it and stop trembling, Li Jia had already disappeared outside the door.
The burly man stumbled out of the hotel, then pulled out his phone and dialed Horton Charles's number. "Boss, this is Charlie. The mission failed. The three of them are dead. That guy spared me and asked me to pass on a message to you: he's coming for you. Boss, you have to be careful. He's very powerful... Boss? Boss??"
"Looks like you've been abandoned too. Leave here and never show your face again. You know what I mean." Li Jia reappeared behind him at some point, gently patted Charlie's shoulder, and said with a smile, her tone devoid of any anger. After speaking, she took Charlie's phone, looked at the number, and said, "New York?"
Charlie nodded, then took the phone from Li Jia and quickly got into his car as she leisurely walked away. He sped towards the outskirts of San Francisco, but not far along the road, a violent explosion overturned the car, which then burst into flames. Everyone inside perished.
Without turning her head, Li Jia stretched out her hand and waved behind her. In a moment, her figure disappeared into the distance.
"Where did you go?" As soon as she entered the room, Hai Mingyue, wearing only a thin nightgown, opened her eyes while half-lying on the sofa. She hadn't been sleepy at all after Li Jia left, and had come out to wait for Li Jia on the sofa in the living room. Now that Li Jia was back, Hai Mingyue naturally asked.
"You've taken care of a little trouble, why aren't you asleep yet? Are you really waiting for me?" Li Jia was in a good mood. She was basically certain that Hai Mingyue's father hadn't been kidnapped at all. After seeing him in person tomorrow, she would be able to go all out to deal with Horton Charles. So Li Jia didn't mind joking around with her woman.
"I was waiting for you, but I only feel safe and dare to sleep when you come back." Hai Mingyue nodded and answered slowly. After answering, she got up and went to Li Jia, gently kissed Li Jia on the cheek, and said, "Goodnight." She turned and walked into the house. "Goodnight!" Li Jia responded softly as she watched Hai Mingyue enter the bedroom. Then she went to the sofa, turned on her computer, edited an email, sent it, turned off the computer, and sat down to meditate on the living room floor.
The next morning, Li Jia and Hai Mingyue finished their breakfast and went out to find Hai Mingyue's father to confirm what had happened.
Hai Mingyue's father was recuperating in Chinatown, a place where more than 100,000 overseas Chinese live. At the south end of Grant Street on Bush Avenue, the entrance to Chinatown is located here. The gate is covered with green tiles, and several vivid dragons have a distinctly Chinese flavor. Hai Mingyue's father lived in a residence in the middle of Chinatown.
In front of the residence was a shop, a very Chinese-style shop selling things unique to China, such as clay figurines and sugar figurines. When Li Jia and Hai Mingyue went inside, the shop owner immediately recognized Hai Mingyue, because she had come here many times to look for her father during the Lunar New Year period.
"Miss Hai, you've come to see your father again? He's playing mahjong with some uncles in the back. Come in." The shopkeeper's words immediately eased Hai Mingyue's tension. She nodded and pulled Li Jia to push open the door leading to the backyard.
Behind them was a small, traditional Chinese courtyard house. After opening the shop's door, one had to pass through a small bedroom to enter the courtyard. Hai Mingyue, holding Li Jia's hand, stood by the window of the small bedroom, watching Hai Ziqiang, who looked radiant after winning a hand of mahjong. Hai Ziqiang was Hai Mingyue's father and Li Jia's future father-in-law.
"Hehe. Dad is really alright. Now can you tell me who's behind this?" Hai Mingyue pulled Li Jia out of the small bedroom and asked as they walked.
"Why don't you go in?" The shop owner was a kind old lady who adored Hai Mingyue. Seeing the two of them go in and come out a short while later, she couldn't help but pull Hai Mingyue's hand and ask.
"Oh, we just came to see him secretly. Auntie, please don't tell him I've been here, otherwise he'll probably move again. Oh well, Auntie, we're leaving now. I'll come back here again when I have time." Hai Mingyue explained with a smile, then pulled Li Jia out of the store and strolled around the street, which was full of Chinese atmosphere.
"You haven't answered my question yet?" Hai Mingyue asked as she ate a candied hawthorn.
“It’s simple. Do you remember the cell phone the kidnappers gave us? They installed a GPS tracker in it, which means they knew exactly where we were, and they knew we were together. That means they knew about our relationship, and we’ve only been together for a short time. How could a foreigner know that?” After Li Jia said this, Hai Mingyue’s eyes immediately lit up. “Horton Charles?”
