After the two finished eating and sat in Li Jia's car, Jiang Ling suddenly remembered that Li Jia had asked her for something. She had been so preoccupied with her own sadness that she had forgotten about it during the meal. Now that she remembered, she quickly asked, "Didn't you ask me for something? What is it? If I can help, I will definitely do it for you!" "Hehe, it's nothing difficult. My shop needs to distribute some flyers in a couple of days, and I need two people. See if your neighbor has time to help me distribute them for two days. The payment is two hundred yuan per person. How about it? This is not a difficult favor, is it?" After Li Jia finished speaking, the images of her three younger siblings flashed through her mind again.
"Is that all? No problem! When? Just give me a call, and I'll bring them to your shop. Their bastard brother hasn't sent them any money in over two years. If it weren't for Xiaoqing's thrifty savings, they probably wouldn't have any money for food by now. I'm sure they'll come if they get this opportunity!" Jiang Ling immediately assured Li Jia, while also giving Li Jia, Xiaoqing's brother, who was standing in front of her, a look of disdain.
Li Jia was both amused and exasperated by Jiang Ling's words. It seemed that Officer Jiang held a deep-seated prejudice against her! "Well, then I'll leave it to you. How about this Saturday? They should have a day off; we can't let it interfere with their studies."
"I didn't expect you to be so considerate of others! If only those three had an older brother like you, that would be great. But unfortunately, you're not their older brother!" Jiang Ling said, pointing to the intersection ahead. "Turn left, I'll get off there."
Li Jia turned left at the intersection and stopped in front of a department store not far from the intersection. "You can go now, I'm going straight back to work in a bit." After saying that, Jiang Ling got out of the car and walked into the supermarket with a big sale sign at the entrance. Li Jia watched Jiang Ling's back, started the car with a smile on her face, and quickly disappeared into the car.
Half an hour later, Li Jia returned to her shop. As soon as she entered, she saw Meng Yao greeting two customers in the rest area. Today, she was wearing her black suit, which made her look extremely elegant. Every smile and gesture revealed her good upbringing. Coupled with her almost perfect smile, Meng Yao's friendliness index reached a perfect score.
"Having someone like that in the shop seems like a good thing?" Li Jia suddenly had the idea of hiring Meng Yao as the dry cleaning shop manager.
"Mr. Li, you're back. These guests are here for the first time, so I'm talking to them about the facilities and services. I'll let you know later if anything comes up. Please go upstairs now!" Meng Yao saw Li Jia standing at the door staring at her, and a smile bloomed on her face. She walked gracefully to Li Jia and spoke softly and sweetly.
"Okay! You go ahead and get busy!" Li Jia actually felt quite comfortable. Although Meng Yao's face showed a hint of fatigue, it did not affect her elegant temperament at all. Standing in front of Li Jia with neither arrogance nor servility, Li Jia finally understood why CEOs of large companies would hire a female secretary.
Reaching the second floor and entering the study, Li Jia, reflecting on Meng Yao's behavior, became even more certain that her identity was extraordinary. However, since Meng Yao wouldn't say anything, Li Jia wouldn't ask either. Maintaining a delicate balance wouldn't be a bad thing.
A moment later, Meng Yao appeared at the door of the study and gently knocked on the open door a few times. "May I come in?"
Li Jia looked up and said, "No need to be so polite, come in and sit wherever you like." She then gestured for Meng Yao to sit in the chair opposite her.
"Mr. Li, I've thought about it for a long time and decided to work for you. My condition is that you let me live here. I don't need any salary, just a basic living allowance each month." Meng Yao finished speaking and looked at Li Feng, waiting for his reaction.
“Okay, you can stay in the same room you stayed in yesterday. Starting today, you will be the manager of Shu Family Dry Cleaning Shop. You will still have a salary, let’s say two thousand yuan a month for now. That way, I can do something I’ve wanted to do for a long time! Hehe!” Li Jia agreed to Meng Yao without hesitation, and then stretched comfortably.
"You... alright! I accept your offer of employment. From today onwards, I will be the manager of Shu Family Dry Cleaning Shop. Please take good care of me, Mr. Li." After saying this, Meng Yao stood up, bowed to Li Feng, and then turned and gracefully walked out of the study.
Meng Yao was very grateful for Li Jia's trust. "From the moment this man saved me, he never asked where I came from or why, but he gave me enough trust and space. Perhaps staying here for a while is a good choice." Li Jia didn't know what Meng Yao was thinking. He only knew that Meng Yao might need a place to stay, and he happened to have that option, so he lent her a hand.
Li Jia spent the afternoon reading. At seven o'clock in the evening, Li Feng put down his book and went downstairs. There were no customers left in the store. Zhou Xiaoyu and Meng Yao were busy taking the last few clothes out of the dryer.
"Put down what you're doing and buy more groceries tonight. Let's celebrate Meng Yao joining the store tonight. I'm going to buy groceries. You two can go upstairs after you're done cleaning up. I'm going to cook a big dinner myself tonight!" Li Jia said and walked out before Meng Yao and Zhou Xiaoyu could react.
There are several residential communities around the dry cleaner, and where there are communities, there are bound to be vegetable shops. Li Jia walked into a relatively large vegetable shop, carefully selected a large pile of vegetables, and then bought two Wuchang fish from another seafood shop. She then hummed a little tune as she returned to the shop.
Zhou Xiaoyu and Meng Yao were chatting happily in the shop. When they saw Li Jia return, Zhou Xiaoyu hurriedly went up to help carry things. Then the three of them hung up the door and went upstairs. Li Jia took off her coat and went into the kitchen to put on an apron.
After Meng Yao and Zhou Xiaoyu helped wash the vegetables, Li Jia chased them out of the kitchen, then closed the door and started tinkering inside by herself.
Li Jia picked up the cleaver and made a few knife flourishes in her hand. Then she placed the cleaned Wuchang fish on the cutting board. With a flash of cold light, the cleaver made several fork-like cuts on the fish. She slid the fish to the other side and treated it in the same way. Then she sprinkled seasonings on it and set it aside.
Outside, Zhou Xiaoyu and Meng Yao sat on the sofa watching TV, occasionally glancing towards the kitchen door. "Can Brother Li cook?" they asked almost simultaneously. After saying that, they both gave each other a doubtful look, and were about to get up to take a look when Li Jia's voice came from the kitchen, "All done! Ready to eat!"
Then the kitchen door opened, and Li Jia gestured for the two of them to wait in the dining room. Then she closed the kitchen door again. Zhou Xiaoyu and Meng Yao sat in the dining room with questions in their eyes. After a while, Li Jia came in with a plate of fragrant dishes and lifted the heat-insulating cover off the plate.
Zhou Xiaoyu and Meng Yao looked at the dishes in front of them, exchanged glances, and asked each other with strong questions, "What kind of dishes are these?"
