Chapter 1: Beaten into a Pig's Head
"Wake up! Wake up!"
"Big sister, second sister, third sister, the fifth one is awake!"
Amid the deafening shouts and the increasingly sharp pain in his head, Yu Zhiming's consciousness became clear.
He wanted to open his eyelids, but he couldn't do it immediately.
Try again with more strength...
After adjusting to the light a little, Yu Zhiming saw four familiar faces full of concern from his narrow field of vision.
"Eldest sister, second sister, third sister, fourth sister, I..."
When Yu Zhiming woke up and saw his family who loved him right in front of him, he immediately felt a sense of security.
He was like a child who had suffered great injustice. His nose felt sore involuntarily and he let out a few tears.
But as soon as he heard the crying sound, he realized that he was already a 26-year-old adult, not a child.
Yu Zhiming quickly stopped crying and sniffed.
Unexpectedly, the action of sniffing pulled the wound on his face, causing him to grimace in pain.
"Old Five, it hurts, doesn't it?"
Yu Xiangwan, the twin sister, looked distressed and reached out to touch Yu Zhiming's face, but the eldest sister slapped her hand away.
"Fourth Brother, don't touch me!"
"You're just talking nonsense. Look at him, he's got a black eye and swollen nose. He can't even open his eyes. How can it not hurt?"
Yu Xiangwan smiled awkwardly and waved a finger in front of Yu Zhiming's eyes.
"Old Five, what's this?"
"one!"
"What about this?" Yu Xiangwan began to shake two fingers.
"two!"
"One plus one equals what?"
Yu Zhiming looked at the three fingers shaking in front of him, ignored her, and looked at his third sister who was a nurse in the hospital.
"Third sister, how long have I been unconscious?"
"Twelve hours, and it's almost nine o'clock in the evening."
"Director Liu from the First Surgery Department said there's no blood clots in your brain or body, and no broken bones."
"Hey, Lao Wu, are you dizzy and nauseous?"
Yu Zhiming shook his head.
Yu Xiangwan couldn't wait to interrupt, "Old Five, the family that beat you up has been arrested and is being held at the police station."
"Don't worry, I won't let them off easily this time."
The head of the bed began to shake.
Yu Zhiming adjusted his body posture, leaned against the head of the bed, and found that he was in a single room.
There were seven or eight fruit baskets placed against the wall by the window, as well as baskets and boxes of eggs, milk, honey, eight-treasure porridge and many other gifts.
Yu Zhiming asked casually: "Sister, Dad and Mom..."
"They're all still in town."
"I was afraid they would get worried if they knew. I've been running around in this hot weather, and I haven't told them about you yet."
The eldest boss Yu Chaoxia explained and carefully straightened Yu Zhiming's collar and hair.
Feeling much more at ease, she breathed a sigh of relief and couldn't help but reach out and gently twist Yu Zhiming's ear.
"Old Five, you really scared the hell out of us this time. Luckily, the hospital directors all said you only suffered minor injuries and are fine. At most, you have a mild concussion."
Yu Xiangwan interrupted again, "Old Five, Director Liu said that being knocked unconscious wasn't the main reason you were unconscious for so long. The main reason was that you just worked the night shift and were exhausted."
"To put it simply, you had a good sleep."
Yu Chaoxia glared at the fourth brother, then turned her gaze to Yu Zhiming lying on the hospital bed.
"Old Five, you must remember this lesson well. Don't go around looking for trouble and treating patients for no reason in the future."
The third child, Yu Xinyue, echoed, "That's right. In today's society, it's hard to be a good person."
"Old Five, even though you are a doctor, you just need to do your job well in the hospital."
Yu Zhiming defended himself, saying, "I examined that guy and gave him advice simply out of professional obligation as a doctor. I had no selfish motives."
"I didn't expect what happened today..."
Thinking of the argument this morning and the beating he received from that family, Yu Zhiming felt really aggrieved.
I never expected to meet such a family.
The Saturday before last, Yu Zhiming attended the wedding of a high school classmate.
As an attending physician who has worked in the county hospital for four years, Yu Zhiming is somewhat famous among his classmates and friends in the county.
Encouraged by several classmates, Yu Zhiming, feeling a bit itchy and showing off, started to perform physical examinations on people in the banquet hall.
The person who brought his family to the hospital to cause trouble this morning was the cousin of that classmate's bride.
On that day, Yu Zhiming gave him a preliminary examination and found that there might be something wrong with his stomach, so he suggested that he go to the hospital for a detailed examination when he had time.
This guy was unexpectedly obedient and went straight to a big hospital in the provincial capital.
His extensive examinations, including gastroscopy, CT scan, and MRI, plus the cost of gifts, connections, and medical experts, cost him more than 10,000 yuan.
The problem is, the examination concluded that there was nothing wrong with the stomach, no problem.
At this point, the man felt that he had wasted his money and was extremely distressed. He believed that Yu Zhiming had an unshirkable responsibility.
Just this morning, the man came to Yu Zhiming with his brother-in-law and two sons, asking him to bear the examination fee, as well as all the resulting expenses and mental damages.
Yu Zhiming naturally disagreed.
At the end of the argument, he was knocked unconscious in the corridor by the angry family...
"Old Five, I heard that man's father died of stomach cancer a few years ago."
Yu Zhaoxia sighed softly: "You are also a humanoid CT in the hospital, known as a diagnosis expert."
"He must have been frightened by what you said, so he rushed to the provincial capital's big hospital for a checkup."
Yu Xiangwan snorted softly and asked, "Sister, are you feeling sympathy?"
"Even if Lao Wu made a misdiagnosis, they can't hit him so hard."
"Big sister, look at what Lao Wu looks like now. He looks like a big pig head. He doesn't need any makeup at all."
Yu Zhaoxia glanced at Yu Xiangwan and explained, "I don't sympathize with them. I'm just analyzing the situation based on facts."
"Hey, Lao Wu, is this a misdiagnosis?"
Yu Zhiming pondered and said, "It's not a misdiagnosis."
"At the time, I felt that the surface of his greater curvature of the stomach was not smooth and natural enough, and suspected that there was a lesion, so I suggested that he go to the hospital for further examination to exclude it."
"Since it's an exclusion test, there are naturally two possible results: yes or no."
Yu Zhaoxia nodded and said softly, "That's right, the test results are fine, and you can't say you misdiagnosed me."
"Besides, if the test really shows that there is a lesion or cancer, will they be happier than they are now?"
At this time, the third sister Yu Xinyue came to the bedside with a bowl of fragrant millet porridge.
"Lao Wu, you haven't eaten for a day. Are you hungry?"
Yu Zhiming got out of bed quickly and said, "Third sister, I'm going to the bathroom first..."
By the time he freed up the memory, the doctor on duty examined him, and he finished his meal, it was almost ten o'clock in the evening.
The four sisters discussed it. The second sister, who was a middle school teacher, had to teach tomorrow. The eldest sister, who had rushed over from the town, went back with the third sister to rest, leaving the fourth sister, who had little to do, to stay on duty in the ward to take care of the fifth sister.
After the three sisters left, Yu Xiangwan nimbly jumped onto the hospital bed and moaned in comfort.
"Old Five, you've been sleeping all day. You must not be able to sleep tonight, right?"
"I'm exhausted from worrying all day. Your injury doesn't require any care, so I'm going to sleep first."
Yu Zhiming saw this guy kick off his shoes and hide under the quilt. He wanted to open his eyes but couldn't.
He rolled the bed flat and sat on the small single bed provided for the caregiver to rest.
Just then, Yu Zhiming heard footsteps approaching in the corridor.
He heard familiar footsteps, a look of surprise appeared on his face, and he stood up to greet them.
Director Wu, who was usually nowhere to be seen after get off work, walked into the ward with a strange man and woman...
