Chapter 827: From Luxury to Frugality
An aneurysm is like a bump or scab on the side of a tree trunk.
Because it destroys the blood vessel structure and the walls are thin, it is easy to cause blood vessel twisting and spasm at this location, or worse, rupture and bleeding.
Once these two situations occur, it will lead to symptoms of local cerebral ischemia or cerebral hemorrhage.
The result was quite bad, with extremely high death and disability rates.
Qi Yue and Shao Guodong, who is also a neurologist, looked at the schematic diagram of the location of the cerebral aneurysm drawn by Yu Zhiming, as well as the aneurysm shape diagram with specific dimensions marked and enlarged in proportion, with very heavy expressions.
The two looked at each other.
Qi Yue met the other party's inquiring gaze, frowned, and whispered, "The location is too deep. Whether it's craniotomy and clipping or interventional embolization, the risks are quite high."
Craniotomy and clipping are the traditional treatment methods for cerebral aneurysms.
It first uses a special orthopedic drill or milling cutter to remove a bone flap with a diameter of 5-8 cm at a specific location in the skull.
Then, the brain tissue lobes are separated under a microscope, and the cerebral artery where the tumor appears is found in the gaps between the brain tissues.
Afterwards, a special cerebral aneurysm clip is used to clamp the "neck" connecting the aneurysm to the normal cerebral artery to achieve the treatment goal.
This treatment method will cause varying degrees of damage to brain tissue, which may lead to adverse consequences such as coma, cerebral hemorrhage, hemiplegia, and death.
Interventional embolization therapy is a newer treatment for cerebral aneurysms than craniotomy and clipping surgery.
Simply put, it is to insert a very thin microcatheter into the femoral artery at the base of the thigh through the arterial lumen directly into the brain aneurysm.
Then, through this very thin microcatheter, a series of coiled micro spring coils are sent in to gradually fill the aneurysm cavity.
This micro coil is an implanted foreign body that can induce thrombosis, causing the aneurysm cavity to fill and blood to stop flowing.
The normal cerebral arteries continue to remain open, thus achieving the purpose of treatment.
This treatment method is relatively safe, but it may also cause side effects such as vascular damage, cerebral hemorrhage, and cerebral vascular embolism.
Also, the entire catheter has to be inserted from the femoral artery in the thigh and finally reach the location of the cerebral aneurysm. It would be an understatement to say that this journey is full of twists and turns.
Moreover, during the intervention, blood vessels must not be damaged, which requires extremely high technical skills from the doctor...
Yu Zhiming noticed Teacher Qi looking over, looked up and asked, "Teacher, what do you want me to do?"
Qi Yue chuckled and said, "Zhi Ming, Dr. Shao's cerebral artery interventional embolization is best done by you."
"Me? Or some other person?"
Yu Zhiming was surprised and reminded, "Teacher, I have never performed cerebrovascular interventional surgery."
Qi Yue said softly, "Just because you haven't done it doesn't mean you can't do it. You haven't performed many cardiovascular interventional surgeries, but Dr. Wang Chunyuan, who is recognized as the best cardiovascular interventional surgeon at Huashan, has personally admitted that he's not as good as you."
Yu Zhiming grinned and said, "Teacher, that's Doctor Wang deliberately belittling himself and praising me. You can't believe it."
Qi Yue glanced at Shao Guodong who was standing beside him.
I don't know if he was immersed in deep worry about himself and didn't hear their conversation, or if he pretended not to hear and didn't show any expression on his face.
Qi Yue decided to fight for Shao Guodong.
He chuckled softly and said, "To be clear, Dr. Wang is telling the truth. I can still tell whether he is lying or not."
"You are no less capable than anyone in this area of vascular intervention."
"You are so familiar with the blood vessels in the brain. After so many tests, no one can surpass you."
"With these two combined, no one is more qualified than you to perform Dr. Shao's brain aneurysm interventional embolization surgery."
Seeing that Shao Guodong still had no reaction, Qi Yue waved his hand to stop Yu Zhiming who was about to refuse.
"Zhiming, don't rush to refuse or agree. Think carefully about whether you can do it first."
"As a doctor, you must neither try to be more aggressive than you can be, nor deliberately retreat and put patients in greater danger."
After a pause, Qi Yue continued, "Dr. Shao is upset when he hears about this for the first time, and he needs to think carefully about it."
"Well, I'll take Dr. Shao for an imaging test to further confirm this hemangioma."
Yu Zhiming said "oh" and asked curiously, "Teacher, where is the teacher's wife?"
"Um, can I ask what your decision is?"
Qi Yue exhaled lightly and said with a sigh, "It has been confirmed. Your examination is correct."
"As for the decision, nothing happened for so many years. The sudden arrival of this child seems to us to be God's will."
"At my age now, I can't accompany Xiaopang for many years. It's also good for him to have a younger brother or sister to accompany him..."
Yu Zhiming returned to the soundproof office and found that Ding Ye, Duan Yi and Zhou Mo had not picked up their chopsticks and were waiting for him to come back.
He sat down on the sofa in his original position, picked up the still warm milk, and drank it all in one gulp.
Zhou Mo noticed that Yu Zhiming was in a bad mood and asked, "Is the patient's condition not very good?"
Yu Zhiming hummed and said, "There's nothing unusual about rectal cancer. But we've just discovered a more troublesome brain aneurysm."
Ding Ye and Duan Yi exclaimed in unison.
"It turns out to be a time bomb killer. It's really tricky."
Ding Ye exclaimed in surprise and asked, "Have you decided on the treatment method? Craniotomy? Or interventional embolization?"
Yu Zhiming shook his head and said, "It's not confirmed yet. Teacher Qi recommended me to take over the interventional embolization surgery."
"But Dr. Shao..."
He recalled the man's reaction and chuckled, "He seemed to be suspicious of me and hadn't expressed his opinion."
Ding Ye said slowly, "It's only natural to have doubts. Doctor Yu, you're best known for your ability to detect subtle changes in the body, but you haven't been known for your treatment."
"Besides, you are too young."
"Today's famous cerebrovascular interventional experts are all over 50 or 60 years old and experienced neurosurgeons or neurologists."
Duan Yi felt indignant and said, "For a medical genius, age and other common sense shouldn't be used to judge him."
"Director Qi has the guts to recommend you, yet that patient is still hesitant. He's really clueless."
Yu Zhiming laughed and said, "When your life is at stake, it's normal to have a lot of thoughts and concerns."
"Okay, let's eat quickly..."
After dinner, it was a little after 6:40 in the evening. Doctor Wang Chunyuan's lecture tonight was to begin at 7:00.
After packing up, they slowly went to the lecture hall, because Shen Qi, Sui Chi and others would reserve seats for them.
They walked up the stairs to the lobby on the first floor, and then a man walked up to them quickly.
Without any hesitation, he knelt down quickly and kowtowed.
Yu Zhiming was a little confused.
Zhou Mo recognized him and asked, "Which ambulance driver are you?"
"Yes, yes, that's me!"
The man got up from the ground and bowed, "Dr. Yu, thank you!"
"Today my sister was moved from the ICU to a regular ward. The doctor said she just needs to be taken care of."
"Doctor Yu, if it weren't for you that day, my sister would definitely not have survived with such serious injuries."
Yu Zhiming saw that this guy had bloodshot eyes and a haggard face, and knew that he had been suffering a lot these past few days.
"Your sister is out of danger thanks not only to me but also to the concerted efforts of many medical staff."
"You've also paid a lot, go back and have a good rest."
The man hummed and nodded.
Zhou Mo couldn't help but ask, "Um, did you get punished for trespassing that day?"
The man said a little embarrassedly: "I'm not an ambulance driver anymore. I was fired by the Third Municipal Hospital."
"When my sister gets better, I'll start driving a taxi or a truck to deliver goods..."
Ding Ye watched the man leave and said, "He definitely won't regret his choice that day. His sister survived."
"If something like this happened to me..."
Ding Ye glanced at Yu Zhiming and said passionately, "For the sake of my loved ones' survival, I wouldn't hesitate to kneel down and kowtow in a hospital, or even to become their servant."
Yu Zhiming quickened his pace in disgust.
Duan Yi exposed the situation, saying, "Sister Ding, you're just dying to sacrifice yourself so you can take over Doctor Yu, right?"
Zhou Mo roared, "With me guarding Dr. Yu, none of your schemes will succeed."
"What if I let you devote yourself to picking first?"
"Is that so... It's not impossible to consider..."
Who are these people?
Each one of them is more rogue than him.
Yu Zhiming doubled his pace again...
The lecture hall was packed again.
Although Shen Qi and the others had reserved a seat for Yu Zhiming in the front row, the entire lecture hall was filled with buzzing sounds, which made Yu Zhiming dizzy.
After sitting for less than two minutes, he couldn't stand it anymore, so he said something to Shen Qi and Zhou Luo, got up and left.
After leaving the lecture hall, the noise disappeared instantly and Yu Zhiming felt relaxed both physically and mentally.
He looked at Zhou Mo who followed him out and sighed, "I feel like my ability to endure has decreased a lot."
"When I was in college, I could handle large lectures. Now that conditions have improved, I can't stand even a little noise."
"This should be another kind of difficulty in going from luxury to frugality, right?"
Zhou Mo chuckled and said, "It's probably not just the transition from extravagance to frugality that's difficult. Before, you had to endure and persevere. Now, you have a choice and don't have to endure it."
Yu Zhiming nodded and said, "That makes some sense..."
As he walked down the corridor to the first floor lobby, he saw Dr. Wang Chunyuan rushing out of the elevator with his assistant and students.
Yu Zhiming hurried forward and explained to Dr. Wang in person that he could not stand the noise and was leaving.
Wang Chunyuan chuckled and said, "Just go back. I'll send the report to your email."
"The topic of tonight's report, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a summary of my research results over the past few years."
"Remember to take a look."
Yu Zhiming said: "I will definitely read and study it carefully..."
Not long after walking out of Zhizhen Building, Yu Zhiming ran into Dean Li Yao who had rushed over.
He couldn't help but urge, "Dean, the lecture is about to begin. You need to walk faster."
Li Yao chuckled softly and said, "I didn't come here for the lecture this time. I came here specifically to see you."
"What is it?"
"Regarding the preparations for the construction of Huashan Second Hospital..."
