Chapter 35

Chapter 35

35

In about five minutes, the noodles and wontons are served at the same time.

When Lin Ju wanted to get it, Zhao Xingcan had already brought the plate with him. Lin Ju took two spoons and followed him.

Lin Ju found a seat by the window and just sat down when she saw Zhao Xingcan go and get two small bowls.

He used chopsticks to separate the noodles and wontons. The steam was rising and the aroma of the food whetted his appetite. Lin Ju watched eagerly, licked his upper lip, and whispered, "I want four wontons."

There were ten large wontons in total, but she only wanted four. Zhao Xingcan tilted his head and said, "You have a really small appetite."

"Don't give me too much noodles." Lin Ju didn't pay any attention to his words and stared at the small bowl.

Zhao Xingcan responded with a smile, pushed the divided small bowl towards her, and asked, "Would you like some juice?"

Lin Ju picked up the spoon and nodded absentmindedly.

"I'll get it." Zhao Xingcan said as he stood up and walked over.

Lin Ju took a bite of the wonton. The meat was mixed with bamboo shoots and shrimps, which was her favorite taste.

She lowered her head to finish one, and when she looked up, Zhao Xingcan was already sitting opposite her.

There was a small glass of orange juice next to her. She picked it up, said thank you, and took a sip.

The two of them were quite harmonious during their meal. She and Zhao Xingcan had lived together for a long time and were already familiar with each other's habits.

Zhao Xingcan knew she couldn't eat chicken, so when he was making the wontons and noodles, he specifically instructed the chef to use a clear broth. He also knew she had a small appetite, so he didn't ask her to eat much. He also knew she liked orange juice, so he went to get some fruit, including a few sliced sweet peaches, which she also loved.

Lin Ju was used to being taken care of by him, so she accepted it as a matter of course.

But Manager Li, who had just received the message and rushed over, was dumbfounded.

From the time this manager learned that Zhao Xingcan had taken over this project, to Zhao Xingcan's occasional late-night visits, to this moment, he had no idea how many times he had prepared himself mentally.

He never understood why a senior executive of the group like Zhao Xingcan would come to this small project of the resort.

Until now, he saw Zhao Xingcan's attentive attitude towards Lin Ju, and he even cut the fruit himself, almost feeding the flesh directly to the other party.

He finally understood why this big guy came here.

Manager Li was hesitating whether to show his face in front of Zhao Xingcan and say a few words of greeting when his arm was gently grabbed. He turned around and saw Hu Xiao looking at him with a smile. She blinked and said, "Manager Li, it's better not to be a light bulb at this time."

Manager Li was stunned for a moment, then nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, Ms. Hu is right."

Hu Xiao smiled and pulled him to the other side. "By the way, can you help me check why this toilet is leaking?"

"Water leak? I'll go right away!" Manager Li was shocked.

Zhao Xingcan waited until Lin Ju was almost done eating before he seemed to remember that there were still wontons and noodles in his bowl.

The noodles were almost clumping together. I took a bite, put down my chopsticks, and tasted the wontons with a spoon.

He had never had a good appetite and was extremely picky about food. He couldn't tolerate anything less than the slightest difference, whether hot, cold, salty, or sweet. However, he didn't actively complain about it; he simply refused to eat.

Many times before, whenever Zhao Xingcan reminded Lin Ju to eat well, Lin Ju would tease him about his picky eating habits.

Lin Ju had just finished eating the last wonton when she saw Zhao Xingcan's mouth slightly drooping, and he slowly used a spoon to skim off the green onions floating on it.

You can tell from his expression that he doesn't like to eat and doesn't want to eat.

Lin Ju leaned forward and said slowly, "Who told me just now that they wanted noodles and wontons?"

Zhao Xingcan's brow twitched, he exhaled, and said helplessly: "It's me."

"Then why don't you eat?"

Zhao Xingcan wrinkled his nose slightly, and said in a drawling voice, "There are green onions in it, and there are also green onions in the meat filling. You know, I don't like eating this."

"That won't do. Good children aren't picky eaters."

Lin Ju found him very interesting like this. She rested her elbows on the table, her chin on her palms, and looked at him while trying not to smile.

He looked like he was enjoying a good show.

Zhao Xingcan was speechless for a moment, and under Lin Ju's scorching gaze, he couldn't help but frown.

Just as he was about to put the food into his mouth, Lin Ju gently raised her hand and stopped him.

"Forget it, it's cold." Lin Ju stood up and looked around. "I remember you like to eat tasteless white people's food. You just brought me orange juice and fruit. I'll make you some salad."

As she spoke, she picked up a white ceramic plate and walked towards the salad area. She was in high spirits and looked much more relaxed than before.

While Lin Ju was getting him salad, Zhao Xingcan lowered his head and took a bite of the cold wontons, then frowned and pushed the bowl aside.

The restaurant at this resort needs some renovation.

Chinese food is so bad, no wonder Lin Ju didn’t come to eat.

After coming out of the restaurant, Lin Ju wanted to go back and complete the last part of the mural, but Zhao Xingcan forcibly took her back to her room.

"I just came out of the hospital. The doctor told you to have a good rest." Zhao Xingcan used her room card to open the door and pressed Lin Ju onto the bed.

Lin Ju was led by him all the way, and because she was full, she felt a little dizzy and dazed.

She sat on the bed, shook her head, and looked up at Zhao Xingcan, "Why do you care about me so much?"

"I only care about you. I don't bother to worry about others." Zhao Xingcan closed the door, walked to the bed, and looked at her with his eyes lowered.

Lin Ju hummed twice, took off her shoes and socks, and climbed onto the bed when her ankle suddenly felt tight.

Her body stiffened and she turned her head, only to see Zhao Xingcan half-kneeling on the ground, staring at his feet with a frown.

Lin Ju subconsciously tensed her toes, arched her instep, and asked with forced composure, "What are you doing?"

Zhao Xingcan dropped his right knee to the ground, leaning forward slightly. The smile on his face disappeared completely, and he squinted his eyes and pointed at a scar on Lin Ju's instep.

It was a scar about the size of a fingernail. It had healed and was slightly darker in color than the surrounding skin.

He stared at it for a while, and asked in a neither light nor heavy tone, "How did you do this?"

He was like a king who had not been back to his territory for a long time and when he came back he found that the jewels in his crown were missing.

Lin Ju pursed her lips and tried to pull her feet back, but Zhao Xingcan's fingers were tightly clasped around her ankles.

She tried a few times, but it didn't budge at all. Her shoulders slumped, and she poked Zhao Xingcan's arm with her finger, her tone hinting at weakness. "Zhao Xingcan, can you please let go? You're hurting me."

"Sorry." Almost as soon as he finished speaking, Zhao Xingcan let go of his hand and gently stroked the skin with red marks with his fingers.

He lowered his head, his eyelashes drooping under his eyelids, casting a shadow that was cold and gloomy.

"I accidentally hit it when I was moving the sculpture." Lin Ju explained to him carefully.

Zhao Xingcan didn't look up, just stared, stroking with his fingers again and again.

"It must be very painful." Zhao Xingcan's voice was light, but it sounded inexplicably cold.

"It doesn't hurt, just a little bleeding, it will heal soon, but I have a physique that scars easily." After Lin Ju said this, he tried to retract his foot again. This time, there was no obstruction.

Zhao Xingcan glanced sideways and saw the girl grabbing the quilt and quickly pressing it on her feet.

Because she didn't get enough rest, her skin looked pale, her eyes were drooping, her thick eyelashes were like a wolf-hair brush dipped in ink, and her rosy lips were tightly pursed.

He felt a little depressed because he had lost a treasure that he cherished. After getting it back, he discovered that there was a flaw on the treasure.

It was because of his lack of sincerity that he felt a faint sense of guilt at this moment.

So he apologized again.

Lin Ju looked at him in surprise, somewhat impatiently. "I already told you, I accidentally broke it. Why are you always apologizing to me? Do you want to be scammed and blame me?"

"Being scammed?" Zhao Xingcan muttered these three words, and after thinking for a moment, he asked, "Can it be like this?"

"Of course not." Lin Ju pushed his arm and said, "You're annoying me. I need to rest. Go out now."

Zhao Xingcan was directly kicked out of the room by her.

The door slammed shut. The man stood at the door, stunned for several seconds before smiling to himself.

The room suddenly became quiet. Lin Ju lay on the bed for a while before slowly lifting the quilt and staring at the back of her feet in a daze.

This was the injury she suffered when she had just separated from Zhao Xingcan. The Huolala they hired was not responsible for the transportation, so she did it herself and moved out all the things left in the floor that Zhao Xingcan prepared for her, one by one.

She wasn't paying attention, and the sculpture, which was half her height, slipped out of her hand and fell directly to the ground.

When Lin Ju went to catch it, the thing fell on the back of her foot. At first, she only felt a momentary sharp pain, but because she still had a lot of things to move, she didn't care.

After I finished my work, the pain became more obvious. I took off my shoes and saw that half of the white socks were stained red.

Lin Ju flexed her toes, rested her chin on her knees, and stared at the scar.

It's funny that her first reaction was not to stop the bleeding, but to pick up her phone to take a picture.

The photo was recorded in the mobile phone and moved to the chat message box. As long as he clicked send, Zhao Xingcan would know.

She did the same at that time. She thought that if she told Zhao Xingcan that she was injured and bleeding, would that cold and indifferent man come to comfort her.

Just one step left.

But her precarious dignity prevented her from doing so.

This memory was quite torturous, and a dull stinging pain filled her temples. Lin Ju exhaled, took off her hearing aid, rolled up the quilt, and lay down on the bed.

She originally thought she couldn't sleep, but as soon as her head touched the pillow, her consciousness quickly became groggy.

When she woke up, it was already completely dark. Lin Ju checked her phone and realized that she had slept for the entire afternoon.

Hu Xiao sent her several messages, asking her if she wanted to have dinner together.

Lin Ju replied, saying that she was sleeping just now, and asked her if she had eaten dinner and whether she wanted to go to the restaurant for dinner now.

Almost without waiting, Hu Xiao sent a message saying that she and Wu Wangfeng were in the restaurant and asked her to come soon.

Lin Ju washed her face and tied her hair up in circles. A small bunch of hair in the front was sticking up from sleeping, so she took a plain hairband and tied up all the hair.

Just going to have dinner, Lin Ju casually put on a black sweatshirt and jeans and went out with a plain face.

When she arrived at the restaurant downstairs, she took a quick look and turned to leave.

Hu Xiao was sharp-eyed and saw her. She immediately stood up, waved, and called out, "Sister Lin Ju, come here quickly."

Lin Ju pursed her lips, moved her shoulders and turned around. Everyone at the long table looked at her.

She sighed slightly, raised the corners of her mouth and walked over.

When Hu Xiao saw her coming, he immediately showed her the empty seat next to him, pulled her arm and asked her to sit over.

"Sister Lin Ju, if you don't come soon, I'm going to wake you up in your room." She lowered her voice into Lin Ju's ear, "Look over there, the man that Manager Li keeps toasting to is said to be the big boss of this resort. All our works have to be reviewed by him."

The man sat on the other side of the table, his shirt sleeves rolled up to the middle of his forearm. The hand holding the wine glass was covered with faint blue veins. His head was slightly tilted, his handsome jawline was very taut, and his face was expressionless. He listened to Manager Li talking beside him, and the whole person looked like a movie screenshot.

Everything around him was blurred, everyone became a background, and he was the only one left in the world.

"The boss's surname is Zhao. What's his name?" Hu Xiao paid attention to Lin Ju's expression and asked pretending to be ignorant.

Lin Ju was stunned, and a name came out of his mouth, "Zhao Xingcan."

"Yes, yes, it's him." Hu Xiao replied with a smile.

Lin Ju took a deep breath and looked away anxiously.
