"Your newspaper leaders are really something, they should at least find someone who can cook better for the cafeteria."
Everyone was so hungry they were dizzy and lightheaded; they had no energy left to work.
The old man doted on his granddaughter.
"Daughter-in-law, go tell Aunt Li to cook a few more dishes tonight."
"Make Ruixue eat more; look how hungry this child is!"
"If all else fails, we'll have Aunt Li bring her food every day. We can't let the child go hungry."
Chen's mother hurriedly got up, urged by the old man.
"Dad, just spoil her."
Her brothers, all her age, eat in the school cafeteria; it's not as exaggerated as she described. They're just picky eaters.
Despite saying that, she quickly walked towards the kitchen, feeling sorry for her daughter.
Chen Ruixue pouted and said defiantly,
"Mom, you've never eaten at our cafeteria before. Why don't you come find me there tomorrow?"
I'll treat you to a meal in the cafeteria; you'll understand once you've eaten there.
You can't wrong me, I'm not picky about food.
The old man patted his granddaughter's hand affectionately.
“I know that Ruixue in our family is not a picky eater.”
Chen Ruixue chatted happily with the old man, but her eyes kept glancing at her own father.
Mr. Chen immediately knew that his daughter's true intention was not what she seemed; she had come back to find him.
"Dad, you've had a long day. Go back to your room and get some rest. Don't let Ruixue tire you out."
As soon as Chen's father spoke, Chen Ruixue knew that he was indeed her biological father.
The old man smiled.
"Okay, I'm tired too. Take me back to my room."
Chen Ruixue immediately got up and pushed the old man back to his room while he was in a wheelchair because of his bad legs.
"Grandpa, I'll call my brother to help you."
The old man shook his head.
"No need, I'm fine with going to bed, I just can't walk far."
I'm not a complete failure.
Chen Ruixue watched as the old man lay down on the bed, covered him with a blanket, drew the curtains, turned off the lights, and then closed the door before leaving the room.
Chen Ruixue sat at the dining table, which was set with four dishes and a soup, all of which were her favorite foods.
Braised pork belly, sweet and sour pork ribs, deep-fried small yellow croaker, and Kung Pao chicken.
A West Lake beef soup.
They ate with great relish, thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Mr. and Mrs. Chen sat to the side watching their daughter wolf down her food, and they couldn't bear to watch.
Chen's mother hurriedly said,
"Eat slowly, look at you, you still say you're not hungry."
"Have some soup first, don't choke."
Chen Ruixue chuckled, but she didn't slow down her eating speed at all.
Soon, they ate until their bellies were full, and then Chen's mother and Aunt Li started cleaning up.
Meanwhile, she was busy in the kitchen preparing several insulated lunch boxes for her daughter, so that the child wouldn't go hungry again.
Seeing that no one was around, Chen Ruixue quickly pulled her father and daughter to sit on the sofa.
"Tell me, what do you want your dad to do for you since you came back?"
Mr. Chen knew perfectly well that his daughter was filial, but not very much so.
No one knows a daughter better than her father.
"Dad, how can you say that? I just missed you, Mom, and Grandpa, so I came back to see you all."
"You think you can hide your little schemes from me? I can tell you're up to something just by looking at you. Hurry up and tell me."
Mr. Chen didn't believe his daughter's nonsense. This girl was better at sweet talk than anyone else, but Dingding was very resourceful.
"Dad, do you know anyone at our Beijing Hospital?"
I know you have many friends, including old classmates.
"Do you have a friend who wants to transfer to a hospital in Beijing?"
"Yes. Do you remember Jiang Tiecheng?"
"Jiang Tiecheng?"
Jiang Tiecheng could not possibly go to the hospital.
He's not part of the system!
"Jiang Tiecheng, isn't that from the security department?"
"Who would go through all that trouble to transfer a security chief from another city to the hospital? You'd think that's just a waste of time."
If he's a skilled professional, whether a doctor or a nurse, transferring here wouldn't be a problem.
Your dad actually knows a few department heads.
"But every profession is like a mountain, and Jiang Tiecheng will never be able to work in a hospital in his lifetime."
"You're suggesting I send him to the cafeteria or the boiler room? Wouldn't that be a waste of his talent?"
Mr. Chen was amused by his daughter's antics. He knew, of course, that his daughter must be missing her boyfriend because they were in a long-distance relationship.
Everyone has been young, and he knew his daughter's thoughts, so he didn't criticize her at all.
However, her daughter's request was clearly beyond her means.
"Dad, Jiang Tiecheng is very capable; he's a famous surgeon."
“Ruixue, it’s not that Dad is criticizing you.”
Although you like Jiang Tiecheng, you cannot go against your conscience.
Even if he were to join the army now, he would still be a lowly soldier, just a security officer.
You said he can defuse landmines and bombs, I know that, it's his specialty.
Do you think someone who defuses landmines and bombs can become a surgical expert?
Are you kidding me?
These are completely different things, and the things they learn are also different.
"The most important thing for us as human beings is to have a bottom line. I know you don't want to be separated from Jiang Tiecheng."
However, at present, transferring someone with no technical skills to a hospital in Beijing is simply a joke.
He doesn't have the qualifications. Let him stay for another two years, and if he achieves some success in the military, we can transfer him to this military region.
