Not long after everyone was seated, Doctor Zhou, carrying an enormous bamboo basket on his back, slowly walked in with small, delicate steps.
Behind him followed closely the two lively and energetic little girls, Lin Xiaoyu and Lin Liaoliao.
Upon seeing this scene, Yun Zhizhi quickly stood up and asked with concern, "Dr. Zhou, you've been nowhere to be seen all day. Where have you been busy?"
Doctor Zhou put down his basket and strode quickly to their side. He then skillfully picked up the teapot and poured himself a cup of fragrant tea at the perfect temperature.
He picked up the teacup and drank it all in one gulp without hesitation, making a gurgling sound in his throat.
After putting down his cup, he slowly replied, "I just went to the mountains to gather herbs. This Sishan Village is truly a hidden treasure trove!"
"Especially deep in the mountains behind the village, there are all kinds of herbs, countless in number, the variety of medicines is truly amazing!"
At this moment, Lin Zhaodi, who was busy not far away, Lin Laidi, who was busy entertaining guests, and Lin Yishan, who was sitting quietly to the side, all had their expressions change drastically when they heard the three resounding names of "Dr. Zhou".
The three of them simultaneously fixed their gazes on Doctor Zhou.
As if propelled by an invisible force, Lin Zhaodi suddenly took a few steps forward and rushed to Doctor Zhou with lightning speed.
Immediately afterwards, she knelt down, grabbed the hem of Doctor Zhou's clothes tightly with both hands, and pleaded bitterly: "Doctor, please have mercy and help us! Please help cure my father's leg ailment."
"I'd do anything to cure his leg ailment, even be his slave!"
Seeing her sister's actions, the third sister, Lin Laidi, knelt down beside her without hesitation, looking at Doctor Zhou with teary eyes, repeating what her sister had just said.
Faced with this sudden turn of events, Doctor Zhou was stunned.
Lin Yishan's voice carried a slight hint of vicissitude as he slowly spoke: "You two should get up quickly! So many doctors have already examined me, and they all shook their heads and sighed, indicating that my leg ailment is incurable. Please don't make things difficult for this distinguished guest."
After saying that, he sighed softly, his heart filled with helplessness and bitterness.
He truly did not want to see his two daughters, because of his chronic illness, willing to abandon their dignity and kneel down to beg others.
Seeing this, Yun Zhizhi quickly stood up and helped the two sisters up one by one.
"Dr. Zhou, please take a look at Uncle Lin's leg ailment!"
On the way back from a stroll in the back mountain, Lin Zhaodi, who is always chattering, told her about her family's situation as if pouring beans from a bamboo tube.
Lin's father's leg ailment was caused four years ago when he was attacked by a wild boar while hunting in the deep mountains and accidentally fell down a hillside.
This stubborn ailment has never been cured, to the point that I now walk with a limp and find it very difficult.
Lin's mother had four daughters before finally having a son. Due to health issues from childbirth, she was unable to do heavy lifting or strenuous work.
The burden of supporting the family naturally fell on Lin Zhaodi's shoulders.
The names of the four sisters, Lin Zhaodi, Lin Pandi, Lin Laidi, and Lin Jindi, were not given by their father, but by their grandfather.
Unlike the late Mr. Lin, Lin's father was not a sexist.
If it weren't for his injured left leg, he would never have agreed to let his eldest daughter go hunting to support the family.
Yun Zhizhi saw that the family was having a hard time, so she wanted to help them in any way she could.
Although Doctor Zhou remained silent, his hands responded with a gesture.
Although Doctor Zhou did not speak, his steady and skilled hands reacted quickly.
He extended his right hand with effortless grace and placed it firmly on the inside of Lin's father's wrist, concentrating intently on taking his pulse and diagnosing his condition.
After a short while, Doctor Zhou finished taking the pulse, and then without hesitation bent down and lifted up Lin's father's trouser leg to examine him carefully.
His gaze was sharp and focused, not missing a single detail.
A quarter of an hour passed.
Suddenly, Doctor Zhou grinned, stood up, and slowly looked at Lin Yishan, whose face was full of anxiety and anticipation. "Haha, you're incredibly lucky today to have met such a miraculous doctor like me. You're very fortunate!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Zhaodi, who had been nervously clutching the hem of her clothes, instantly beamed with joy.
She hurriedly stepped forward and asked hopefully, "Miracle doctor, do you mean... there's still hope for my father's leg ailment?"
Doctor Zhou stroked his long, snow-white beard slowly. "Hmm. As long as you strictly follow my medical advice, your father's leg ailment will definitely be fully healed in about a month."
"However, your father will suffer a bit during the treatment."
Lin Yishan's eyes were red, unable to hide his joy. He said excitedly, "Don't worry, Doctor, I'm not afraid of suffering at all. As long as my leg ailment can be cured, no matter how unbearable the pain is, I will definitely grit my teeth and persevere!"
Lin Zhaodi's eyes welled up with tears, and she said to Lin Laidi, who was equally overjoyed beside her, in a slightly choked voice, "Third sister, hurry up and run to Aunt Wanfu's house to tell Mother and Second Sister this wonderful news."
While wiping away tears of joy from the corners of her eyes, Lin Laidi cheerfully replied, "Okay! I'm going right now!"
After saying that, she flew out the door like a light swallow.
