Chapter 91 Acquiring Tree Roots

Hearing that the young lady wanted to use the rice water to pickle green beans, Aunt He was very surprised. She asked curiously, "Miss, can rice water be used to pickle green beans?"

Aren't you worried about spoiling the green beans while pickling?

Yun Zhizhi smiled and explained, "Of course you can, and pickled green beans made with rice water are both sour and crunchy."

Aunt He never expected that the rice water would be thrown away directly, but Miss He never imagined that it could be turned into a treasure.

Miss, you're so amazing!

She's much better than the previous one, and she's better to the whole family of three.

In the afternoon, Yun Zhizhi took Xiao Tao and He Yang out excitedly; their destination was the suburbs.

However, they were unaware that someone was secretly following them from the shadows.

Yun Zhizhi is going to Yangjia Village to ask Xiaotao's parents and the villagers for help digging up fern roots.

This time, she plans to make some sweet potato noodles and fern root noodles to serve as the main dish for mala tang (a spicy hot pot dish).

Less than half an hour later, a horse-drawn carriage stopped at the entrance of Yangjia Village.

At that moment, several children were playing happily under the banyan tree at the entrance of the village; when they saw the horse-drawn carriage, they all looked over there curiously.

One of the dirty little children exclaimed in surprise, "Xiao Hong, that person looks like your older sister Xiao Tao."

Xiao Hong exclaimed with delight, "It's my sister!"

After saying that, she rushed to Xiaotao and asked, "Sister, why are you back?"

Xiao Tao took her hand and said with a smile, "Come on, let's go home. Miss brought you some cool and refreshing ice cream. Share it with your younger siblings when you get back."

After she finished speaking, she pointed to Yun Zhizhi beside her.

Yang Xiaohong stared at the woman before her, her lips red, teeth white, and skin as smooth as jade, her eyes practically glued to her. "Thank you, Miss!"

Yun Zhizhi grinned, revealing a bright smile, "Call me Sister Zhizhi!"

"good."

In less than the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, they arrived at Xiao Tao's house.

What came into Yun Zhizhi's view was a dilapidated thatched house with several holes in the roof.

Yun Zhizhi couldn't help but frown.

Is this dilapidated house still habitable?

Seeing her worried expression, Xiao Tao quickly explained, "Miss, thanks to you, our family will be building a new house soon."

Hearing this, Yun Zhizhi finally felt relieved.

Upon meeting Xiao Tao's parents, Yun Zhizhi went straight to the point, explaining her purpose: "Uncle Yang, Aunt Yang, could you take us into the mountains?"

Without a second thought, Yang Chao immediately replied, "Of course."

He never expected that his daughter would bring Miss Yun back to go up the mountain.

The reason Yun Zhizhi wanted Xiao Tao's parents to lead the way up the mountain instead of Xiao Tao herself was because fern roots were just an ordinary weed in the eyes of the people of Chu Yun Kingdom, and nothing special about them.

So she wanted to show it to him, so that Uncle Yang would know what the fern root tree looked like, making it easier for them to identify and harvest it in the future.

After walking for half an hour, the group finally arrived at the outer edge of the mountain behind Yangjia Village.

He Yang excitedly picked a few wild fruits and was about to share one with Yun Zhizhi when he noticed that she was looking down and peering around. Curious, he asked, "Boss, what are you looking for?"

Without even looking up, Yunzhi replied, "Fern root."

He Yang was completely bewildered upon hearing this.

So he asked Yang Chao, who was standing next to him, "Uncle Yang, do you know what fern roots are?"

Yang Chao shook his head. "I don't know."

A short while later, everyone heard a gasp from not far away.

"Found it."

Yun Zhizhi quickly called Yang Chao over, "Uncle Yang, hurry up and use a hoe to dig out the roots under these fern roots."

Although Yang Chao had doubts, he immediately did as instructed.

He quickly dug out the roots of the fern.

Yun Zhizhi held up the mud-covered, thin, black fern roots and displayed them to everyone: "Uncle Yang, I plan to buy fern roots and tendrils in Yangjia Village on a long-term basis, at four copper coins per pound."

"We urgently need 1,000 jin of fern rootlets these two days. I will send someone to the village to collect them."

Everyone was stunned when they heard this.

Especially Yang Chao.

His face was filled with disbelief.

This was the first time in his life he had ever seen someone actually want to buy tree roots.

And they bought so much!

He looked at Yun Zhizhi with excitement: "Miss Yun, I will tell the villagers of Yangjia Village this great news in a moment. However, the price doesn't have to be so high."

After all, these things are all wild and only require some effort. Coincidentally, in the eyes of these farmers, the least valuable thing is labor.

"It's alright! These roots aren't easy to dig up, and the fern roots I bought needed to be cleaned thoroughly, which took everyone quite a bit of time. The price is quite reasonable."

After this stall event, Yun Zhizhi plans to open a workshop specializing in making fern root noodles, sweet potato noodles, and potato noodles.

They can sell them at their own grocery store, which will also help support their parents' business.

Yang Chao assured her, "Miss Yun, please rest assured, we will clean it thoroughly and ensure that the quality meets the standards."

On the way down the mountain, He Yang couldn't resist his curiosity and leaned close to Yun Zhizhi's ear to whisper, "Boss, why did you buy so many tree roots? These things don't burn as well as tree branches."

Yun Zhizhi reached out and gently tapped his head, revealing a mysterious smile: "What are you thinking, kid? These fern roots aren't for burning; they're a treasure. You'll see when the time comes."

After Yun Zhizhi left Yangjia Village with He Yang and Xiao Tao, Yang Chao was extremely anxious and ran all the way to the village chief's house.
