Chapter 80 The Sorrow After a Hangover
When the guards saw Chu Shu walk out of the room reeking of alcohol, they assumed he was about to go on a killing spree again, as he had done before, and they all gave way.
But Chu Shu simply sealed the room with a barrier and went to fetch two jars of wine.
After returning, he stood alone under the tree in front of the door for a long time, took a few swigs, and then suddenly threw all the wine away, seemingly muttering something under his breath.
Chu Shu heard the noise in the room, a crackling sound.
"He's drunk and still won't calm down."
After finishing his rant, he grabbed a wine jar and stormed into the room.
Xu Zangyu lay sprawled on the floor, kicking over the nearby table that must have been in his way.
The wine glasses had rolled to who-knows-where, and shards of the broken wine jar were scattered all over the ground.
The commotion was so loud that the people on the ground were completely unaware. They were so drunk that they were unconscious, and even in their sleep, they couldn't stay still, rolling around on the ground as if they didn't know what was going on.
Just as he was about to crush the broken pieces of the wine jar, Chu Shu grabbed his collar and pulled him onto the bed.
After throwing the person onto the bed, Xu Zangyu rolled to the side and drifted off to sleep again.
Chu Shu picked up the wine jar in her left hand, took a sip, and then realized that one jar was missing.
He turned Xu Zangyu's body around, and found that Xu Zangyu was holding the jar of wine in his arms. He reached out to snatch it from Xu Zangyu, but Xu Zangyu held on tightly and wouldn't let go.
"They're all mine, don't you dare take them."
Chu Shu laughed in exasperation: "Why don't you drink yourself to death?"
After casting a sleeping spell on Xu Zangyu, Chu Shu snatched the wine jar from his arms and threw it into the bath.
He took two more sips of the wine in his hand, the bitter and spicy taste filling his mouth. He remembered what Xu Zangyu had said and suddenly felt that the wine really didn't taste very good, and the more he drank, the less interesting it became.
So he threw the jar of wine he was holding into the bathtub as well.
Xu Zangyu didn't regain consciousness until a day later. When he got out of bed, he had a splitting headache, and his body ached all over, as if he had been beaten up.
Seeing the scene under the bed, he was stunned for a long time. "Did I do this?"
The table was kicked upside down, and shards of wine jars were scattered all over the room, leaving no place to step, as if a fierce battle had taken place.
He vaguely remembered that he seemed to have kicked something in his dream, but he thought it was a fight with someone.
Despite feeling unwell, she got out of bed and heard people talking softly at the door. One of them was Chu Shu's voice.
Chu Shu: "The ferry crossing to the human world is closed?"
"It has been completely sealed off, and there is absolutely no possibility that it could be opened by anyone."
Chu Shu: "What about the underworld?"
The person who answered hesitated for a moment, then said, "Lord Ferryman, our spies sent to the Underworld have been captured. The other side didn't kill them; they seem to want to extract some information from them."
Chu Shu: "The Yellow Springs Ferry will not be closed for the time being. I will go there and then make a decision."
The man was about to say something when he heard rustling noises in the room and exclaimed in surprise, "Master, there's someone in your room!"
He gripped the knife handle tightly, but found that Chu Shu's expression was normal, so he immediately relaxed.
"Don't worry about it. If I were to wait until you find out, my head would already be gone."
He lowered his head in shame and noticed Chu Shu's unusual behavior.
People who used to spend their days drinking are now bringing a proper meal from the table next to them into their rooms.
Is this meal for the people in the room?
"You're awake? Come and eat."
When Chu Shu came in, Xu Cangyu was righting the table that had been kicked over, and was about to clean up the mess of broken pieces when Chu Shu pulled him aside.
"Someone will clean the room later."
Xu Zangyu was pressed down onto the couch by him, and pinched his waist. "Did I roll around on it after I got drunk?"
Chu Shu raised her eyelids, clearly in a better mood than before, with a faint smile on her lips.
"You still remember the stupid things you did."
There was no tea on the table above the couch. Xu Cangyu took a sip of soup to moisten his dry throat. Recalling what happened yesterday, he felt sincerely ashamed of his poor drinking habits.
"No wonder my legs were sore and painful. I don't think I dropped anything else besides these things."
"Really no recollection?" Chu Shu pointed to the bathtub. "You also ruined two jars of my good wine."
Xu Zangyu turned to look and found that there were indeed two wine jars floating in the pool.
"Would I steal your wine? What kind of good wine is that? I wouldn't drink it even if it were given to me for free."
Chu Shu leaned against the soft pillows on the couch behind her, looking casual and languid. Her eyes were slightly red, still showing signs of fatigue from drinking. She propped herself up with her left hand, and a red mark on her slightly turned neck was particularly noticeable.
Xu Zangyu almost choked while holding the soup spoon.
“You said that wine is yours, and no one can take it from you,” Chu Shu looked at him calmly, without the fury of someone whose appearance had been ruined, and said casually, “Since you like it, I’ll take you to the wine cellar to pick out a couple of jars later.”
"Thank you," Xu Zangyu replied awkwardly, taking out some medicine and handing it to Chu Shu on the table. "Here, apply this to your wounds."
Chu Shu didn't answer, tilting her head back and squinting with her eyes closed. "It's just a minor injury."
The Chu Shu of the past was not like this.
In Xu Zangyu's memory, Chu Shu had always lived a pampered life. Not to mention having any obvious scars on her body, she was never even a speck of dust on her.
Chu Shu has changed too much; her former radiance has dimmed somewhat.
His throat tightened, and he couldn't utter a single word.
Chu Shu couldn't understand the strange, inexplicable surge of bitterness that welled up inside him. He didn't want to look at the medicine bottle on the table, nor did he want to look at Xu Zangyu. A thousand emotions raged wildly in his heart. Was it satisfaction or fear? Chu Shu couldn't say for sure.
He just wanted to slow things down for a while.
But then he felt a cool sensation on the side of his neck and realized that a breath was coming closer.
Even the smallest injury can leave a scar, and you'll regret it later.
The turmoil in her emotions did not subside, and Chu Shu's breathing became even more erratic.
Those eyes suddenly opened, and Xu Zangyu's hand was grabbed. He looked at Chu Shu and was shocked: "You... quickly recite the Heart Sutra."
It seems like Chu Shu's inner demons have become even stronger.
He brushed Xu Zangyu's hand away and rubbed his burning temples a few times. "I know what I'm doing."
"Don't let your inner demons consume you, Chu Shu." Xu Cangyu put down the medicine bottle and asked again, "Why did you seal the ferry to the human world? The sect leader is still looking for you; he must have a way to save you."
"Save me?" Chu Shu covered her face and suddenly sneered, her scarlet eyes peeking out from between her fingers with an exceptionally sinister glint. "Do you know how he saved me?"
"A single thought can give rise to desire, and a single thought can give rise to evil. He wants to destroy the thoughts in my mind."
"What I want is something I can decide whether to give up or not, not something that can be taken away by others."
Xu Zangyu didn't know what method Chu Yang had used, but he could hear the hatred in Chu Shu's words towards his father, whom he had always respected.
Only Chu Shu from five years ago knew all of this.
Chu Yang's chosen method was to completely seal Chu Shu's memories of Xu Zangyu and extinguish his inner demons.
Chu Shu escaped, vanished without a trace.
"The Tianyi Sect has a perfect and obedient disciple. Xiao Mingxin is enough. My departure will fulfill his dream of becoming the sect leader."
Seeing the almost untouched food on the table, Chu Shu slowly calmed down and said, "Eat your food properly, and come out with me later."
*
The little demons guarding outside nearly popped their eyes out when they saw Chu Shu lead someone out of the room.
Isn't this the human who offended the Lord of Salvation?
So this was the person locked up in the room?
They were just betting that she must be an absolute beauty, otherwise why would the Ferryman not leave the house for a whole day and night?
Xu Zangyu followed him through the dark neighborhood and turned into a dark alley, where the number of ghosts that could be seen everywhere had obviously increased.
The graceful woman was dressing in front of the mirror, her bright eyes captivating, but just now he clearly saw this woman tear off someone else's face and stick it on her own.
"Two distinguished guests, are you here to do business?"
That face was truly magical; after the woman who was speaking pressed it against it, her thin figure instantly became as graceful and alluring as the woman with that face.
The woman, hands on her hips and leaning against the door, raised her eyes seductively: "If I had known the ferryman was coming, I would have dressed up earlier."
She raised her slender hand and leaned in, but Chu Shu stepped back, not even letting her touch the hem of his clothes.
The woman stomped her foot in anger, her eyes filled with both anger and infatuation. Xu Cangyu was watching the scene from the sidelines when suddenly his shoulder slumped.
"Little brother, am I pretty?"
The woman's breath brushed against his earlobe, and Xu Zangyu's body stiffened instantly. Unlike the fragrant breath described in the book, Xu Zangyu felt a chilling coldness.
The thought that the skin stuck to his face had just been peeled off someone else's face made my scalp tingle.
"Of course it's beautiful."
"Would you like to have some fun with your sister and enjoy the pleasures of lovemaking?"
"No, thank you, sister." Xu Cangyu pulled her shoulder away and ran towards Chu Shu, only then did the woman give up.
Touching her face, she said dejectedly, "This is the face I carefully selected, is it really that bad?"
Xu Zangyu's shoulder sank again as Chu Shu leaned closer, mimicking the woman's earlier actions, but with a sarcastic tone.
"Sister? How can you say that? She's been dead for three hundred years, she's old enough for you to call her grandma."
Xu Zangyu's face was stiff, and he couldn't even manage a smile.
The woman retorted, "What nonsense! I died young, at the tender age of sixteen. I was thinking that if you wanted to buy something, I would give you some goodies. Humph, that's no longer possible."
Chu Shu didn't care much, and led Xu Cangyu into the shop, casually picking one out from the shelf.
"We're going to the Yellow Springs soon, so we need something to cover our presence."
“Some ghosts who travel to the underworld will choose to pawn their faces at the makeup artist for money. This is what you just saw. It’s a common occurrence here, so don’t panic.”
Xu Zangyu was indeed tense the whole time, especially when he saw the vivid faces hanging on the wall, which gave him goosebumps.
Chu Shu didn't react much. She took off the skin pouch and put it on, and she had already become a different person.
"You become whoever's mask you wear."
Xu Zangyu hesitated and said, "Isn't there any other way, like using the Yan Dan?"
Chu Shu: "Those tricks might fool some clueless people, but if we used the Face-Changing Pill, we'd be detained by the Yin Soldiers as soon as we arrived in the Yellow Springs. Do you think they judge people by their appearance?"
