Chapter 75 I'm Your Boyfriend
On Monday morning, Xia Zhiyao woke up from a light dream and was about to get up to get her phone when an arm suddenly tightened around her waist. The force was not strong, but it carried an instinctive possessiveness.
"Don't move..." A low, husky voice sounded in my ear, mixed with the languor and hoarseness unique to the morning, with even a childlike weariness and dependence at the end of the sentence, "Let me hold you for a little while longer."
She turned her head and caught a glimpse of Zhou Yue out of the corner of her eye. He was pressed close to her, his hair disheveled, his chin resting on her neck, his breath warm and long.
His eyes weren't fully open yet, and his eyelashes cast a faint shadow in the dim light. His usual cold and reserved demeanor completely disappeared at this moment, and he looked like a big boy who had let down all his guard, even with a hint of vulnerable obedience.
Xia Zhiyao couldn't bear to break the silence, but her eyes softened and she gently brushed aside the messy hair on his forehead.
"Time to get up." Her voice was low but firm, carrying a gentle urging, "You have to go to work today." The warmth of their breath mingled, creating an indescribable sense of intimacy.
Zhou Yue gave a muffled hum, his chin gently brushing against her shoulder: "I don't want to go."
Xia Zhiyao was amused by his sullen tone and reached out to push him: "Stop fooling around, we're really going to be late."
But he was as stubborn as a child who wanted to stay in bed, not loosening his grip but tightening it even more, as if he wanted to pull her whole body into his arms. His voice was a little tired and coquettish: "Five more minutes."
"Zhou Yue." She deliberately emphasized her words, but her voice couldn't hide the helpless smile.
He slowly opened his eyes, his gaze meeting hers, a lingering haze still visible in his eyes.
He stared at her for a few seconds, then slowly curved his lips into a smile, with the intimacy and languor unique to the early morning: "Your voice was so beautiful when you called my name."
Xia Zhiyao was taken aback, feeling a slight bump on her chest. She reached out and patted his arm, forcibly bringing the topic back to reality: "Get up quickly, or you'll be stuck in traffic during rush hour."
Zhou Yue chuckled softly, finally releasing his embrace, turning over and sitting up, his long legs casually bent, his tone both helpless and indulgent: "Alright, alright, I'll listen to you."
Just as he stood up, Xia Zhiyao suddenly reached out and gently wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, as if she had taken off all the armor from her heart and entrusted herself to him without reservation.
Zhou Yue lowered his head and kissed the corner of her eye. "What do you want for breakfast?"
Xia Zhiyao leaned against him, and after a moment, she finally laughed out loud, her tone teasing: "What, are you going to cook for yourself?"
Zhou Yue raised an eyebrow, casually picked up his phone from the bedside table, and lazily swiped the screen: "I'm ordering takeout. What do you want to eat?"
Xia Zhiyao was amused by his sudden initiative. "I knew you were too lazy to do it yourself." She smiled, half teasing and half helpless, leaning against the pillow, her gaze fixed on the screen in his hand.
Zhou Yue turned to his side, casually resting his arm on the pillow, one hand operating his phone, but his eyes remained fixed on her, his gaze carrying the unique languor and intimacy of the morning: "What do you want to eat? Whatever makes you happy, I'll eat whatever you want."
Xia Zhiyao's eyes held a hint of mockery: "How come I never noticed how glib you were before?"
Zhou Yue was resting his chin on his hand, looking at her. Hearing her words, he raised an eyebrow and a lazy smile appeared on his lips: "That's because you wouldn't give me a chance before."
His voice was low, tinged with a hint of smugness. After speaking, he casually brushed aside the strands of hair that had fallen beside her temples with his fingers, his movements slow and deliberate, carrying an unintentional intimacy.
Xia Zhiyao grabbed his restless hand and pretended to be stern: "Get up, go take a shower, don't think about anything else, go to work."
Zhou Yue was amused by her tone, and leaned lazily against the headboard, but his voice carried a hint of genuine resentment: "Why do you love going to work so much?"
Xia Zhiyao watched him finish ordering, then reached out and nudged Zhou Yue, who was still lying in bed: "Go wash up."
Zhou Yue was pushed so hard that his body swayed slightly, but he only glanced at her with a lazy smile on his lips. In the end, he slowly got out of bed, his posture full of reluctance.
Xia Zhiyao shook her head, threw off the covers, got up, opened the wardrobe, and began to choose what to wear today.
The sound of running water came from the bathroom, and a hazy mist escaped through the half-open door, mingling with the quiet atmosphere in the bedroom. She bent down to tidy her clothes, her eyes unconsciously glancing at that figure out of the corner of her eye, and a rare sense of peace suddenly welled up in her heart.
After the two finished washing up, the takeout arrived just in time, and Zhou Yue returned carrying several large bags of breakfast.
"...Did you buy all the breakfast stalls in Beijing?" Xia Zhiyao couldn't help but chuckle, her eyes falling on the pile of steamed buns, fried dough sticks, pancakes, savory tofu pudding, and hot soy milk on the table. "There's so much, how can we possibly finish it all?"
"You can eat whatever you want." He raised an eyebrow, his tone quite self-righteous. "I'll take care of the rest. I've used up too much energy and need to replenish myself."
Xia Zhiyao was stunned for a moment, then raised an eyebrow and her eyes flashed: "...You really dare to say that."
Zhou Yue chuckled at her tone, leaned closer to her, and whispered, "I'm telling the truth. Want to give it a try?"
Xia Zhiyao stared at his blatantly blatant face, too lazy to pay attention, and picked up her chopsticks to take a small steamed bun. She gently bit into it, and hot steam mixed with soup burst out. She quickly blocked it with her hand, but the corners of her lips unconsciously curved up: "Not bad."
"Hmm?" Zhou Yue immediately followed up, his eyes filled with eagerness, "Would you like to try this tofu pudding again? It's salty, your favorite."
She was both amused and exasperated, and glanced at him, saying, "You look just like my mom, it scares me."
"No." He chuckled softly, but his gaze lingered for a moment at the collar of her shirt, his eyes seemingly brushing against her collarbone. "I'm your boyfriend." His words carried the ambiguity and languor unique to the early morning, yet also a certain domineering certainty.
The two bickered as they ate, and the huge pile of breakfast on the table was quickly devoured.
Xia Zhiyao wiped her mouth and got up to clear the table. Zhou Yue slowly finished the last sip of soy milk, then snatched the lunchbox from her hand: "I'll do it. You go put on your makeup, or you'll say I'm delaying your work again."
Xia Zhiyao raised an eyebrow at him, wanting to say something sarcastic, but ultimately turned to put on makeup, her reflection appearing in the mirror.
Zhou Yue stood at the door, leaning against the door frame for a few seconds before slowly speaking: "Zhiyao, the way you look at work, it seems like you're going to turn back into that Xia CEO who no one dares to mess with."
She paused at his words, turned around and glanced at him: "Then you'd better be sensible and not mess with me."
"Alright." Zhou Yue smiled and raised his hands in surrender, but walked straight over to straighten her suit collar and whispered in her ear, "But at home, you can only be mine."
Xia Zhiyao's breathing hitched slightly, and she raised her hand to push him: "Let's go."
A moment later, the two walked out of the house side by side. The spring breeze carried a slight chill, and the streets were already bustling with people.
Zhou Yue naturally reached out and took her bag, putting his other arm around her shoulder, a gesture so familiar it seemed perfectly natural.
"Don't do this, we're outside," she whispered a reminder.
"What are you afraid of?" He chuckled, his gaze fixed on the morning light ahead. Xia Zhiyao felt helpless, but ultimately did not push him away again.
Inside the elevator, the two stood side by side.
The narrow space was so quiet that only the sound of breathing could be heard. Although no one moved or spoke, the atmosphere was light and ambiguous.
Their figures were reflected in the mirror. She tried to suppress her smile, but it still couldn't help but turn upwards. His eyes, however, shone brightly, even concealing the weariness between his brows.
The moment their eyes met, they both laughed almost simultaneously, a silent laugh that carried an undeniable sweetness.
"President Xia," Zhou Yue suddenly lowered his voice, pretending to be serious, but he couldn't hide the sarcasm in his tone, "you have to make it up to me."
Xia Zhiyao raised an eyebrow, feigning ignorance: "Compensation for what?"
He curled his lips into a smirk, a hint of wicked arrogance in his eyes, and lazily leaned in half a step closer: "Given all the things you've done to me before, they're too numerous to recount... You need to comfort my wounded heart."
The elevator stopped with a "ding" and the doors opened.
Before the two could even stop laughing, a man was already standing at the elevator door. It was Zheng Xiaotian, with one hand in his trouser pocket and a briefcase in the other, clearly having just arrived at the company.
What started as a casual glance caused him to pause when he saw the two figures inside the elevator.
Zheng Xiaotian raised an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping back and forth between Xia Zhiyao and Zhou Yue, a slow smile playing on his lips: "Oh, so you two... are working together now?"
Zhou Yue made no attempt to hide it, even laughing more freely, his tone revealing a deliberate frankness: "Good morning, President Zheng. We... are going the same way."
"On the way?" Zheng Xiaotian narrowed his eyes, his tone full of teasing. "This 'way'... could it be that we started from the same bedside?"
Xia Zhiyao was stunned for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh out loud. She glared at him, her tone a mix of friendly disdain and teasing: "Zheng Xiaotian, you son of a bitch..."
Before she could finish her rant, Zhou Yue subtly reached out and grabbed her arm. The movement was so natural, almost instinctive, yet it was noticed by everyone.
Zheng Xiaotian raised an eyebrow, his gaze falling on the two's clasped hands. He clicked his tongue and grinned slyly, "See? Still stubbornly insisting there's no affair? This evidence is self-admitted."
Xia Zhiyao was speechless for a moment, then turned her head and glared at Zhou Yue, her eyes clearly saying, "It's all your fault."
Zhou Yue, however, showed no guilt whatsoever. Instead, he smiled slightly and said calmly, "Yes, there is an affair, the kind that is open and aboveboard."
Zheng Xiaotian: "..." He paused for a moment, then burst out laughing: "Well done, Zhou Yue, you've shut me down completely, I'm impressed!"
Zheng Xiaotian stared at them for two seconds, then simply shrugged, took a step back with a nonchalant smile, and made way for them.
Watching the two walk away side by side, he raised one hand to rub his temples, then couldn't help but chuckle softly, muttering to himself, "They really are... beaming with joy."
During lunch break, Zheng Xiaotian, as always, acted nonchalantly and strolled slowly to the door of Xia Zhiyao's office.
"Knock knock—" He knocked on the door twice, but didn't wait for a response and just poked his head in.
Xia Zhiyao was engrossed in revising the PPT when she heard the noise. She simply said, "Speak quickly if you have something to say."
On the sofa opposite, Zhou Yue was spreading out his documents, leaning back slightly. Hearing the voice, he looked up and greeted, "President Zheng."
Zheng Xiaotian walked in nonchalantly, casually sat down on the armrest of the sofa, and acted as if this were his office.
His eyes crinkled into a smile, like a reporter who'd caught a whiff of gossip: "Oh my, I just wanted to ask." His gaze darted back and forth between the two of them, his tone laced with a mischievous grin: "You two, how did you two get together again?"
Xia Zhiyao paused, then finally looked up, her eyes cold as water: "President Zheng, are you here to check my household registration?"
Zheng Xiaotian choked for a moment, then burst out laughing, raised his coffee cup, and gave a mock salute: "Oh dear, you used to call me 'Little Sweetie,' but now you call me 'President Zheng'..."
Zhou Yue looked up at him and smiled slightly: "Just say you're envious."
Zheng Xiaotian almost choked, his straw trembled, and he pretended to be calm: "I'm envious? Come on, President Zhou, you're just so smug, you want the whole company to know, don't you?"
Xia Zhiyao coughed lightly, closed her laptop, and coldly interrupted, "Instead of wasting time gossiping, why don't you go check on your department's progress?"
Zheng Xiaotian spread his hands exaggeratedly, but his tone was amused, "Look how tightly you're protecting him, Zhou Yue, you're really something."
The three of them joked and teased each other, creating a rare lighthearted atmosphere in the office. Zheng Xiaotian laughed so hard he almost fell over, while Xia Zhiyao pursed her lips but couldn't hide the smile in her eyes.
Just then, Zhou Yue's phone on the table suddenly vibrated.
Zhou Yue looked down and saw Zheng Yaotian.
Zheng Xiaotian, biting his straw, squinted and slowly said, "Oh, it's my brother on the phone."
