Chapter 106 The Edge of Losing Control

Chapter 106 The Edge of Losing Control

It was already late at night when Jin Ling was found.

The boy curled up in the bushes on the back hill of the amusement park. His blue headband was gone, his school uniform jacket was torn in several holes, and his face was covered in dirt. The moment he saw Wei Wuxian, his tense nerves suddenly broke, and tears flowed out like a flood.

"Uncle..." Jin Ling's voice was so hoarse that it was almost inaudible. He choked with sobs and couldn't speak after just shouting two words. He just threw himself into Wei Wuxian's arms, clutching the corner of his clothes tightly, as if it was a life-saving straw.

Wei Wuxian felt as if his heart was being gripped tightly by a hand. He squatted down and frantically checked Jin Ling's body. "What's wrong? Are you hurt? Don't be afraid, we're here."

Lan Wangji stood aside, his flashlight sweeping through the surrounding bushes, his eyes cold as ice. This place was remote and deserted, and it was obvious that he had been brought here deliberately.

"Si Zhui... Si Zhui was captured..." Jin Ling finally burst into tears, speaking incoherently, "It's all my fault... They captured me and forced Si Zhui to go with them... They said if I didn't leave, they would... they would attack Si Zhui..."

Wei Wuxian's blood instantly rushed to his head, then froze into ice the next second. He held Jin Ling's trembling shoulders and said, "Tell me clearly, who took Si Zhui away? What did they look like? Which direction did they go?"

Jin Ling sobbed, trying to recall the past. "It was two men in black... They cornered me in an alley... When Si Zhui found me, they took him away... They said... they said Si Zhui had something they wanted..."

“Spiritual power…” Lan Wangji’s voice was terrifyingly low, the flashlight beam flickering in the darkness. “Their target from the beginning was Si Zhui.”

Using Jin Ling as bait to lure Si Zhui into the trap—what a vicious plan.

Wei Wuxian’s fingers turned white from the effort. He stood up, his voice trembling, “Lan Zhan, let’s go find him! Now!”

"Calm down." Lan Wangji held him back. "There's no surveillance here. We don't know which direction they went. Blindly searching will only waste time."

“What should we do then?!” Wei Wuxian’s eyes were red as he practically shouted, “Si Zhui is still in their hands! Every second we wait increases the danger!”

He didn't dare to think about why those people had captured Si Zhui. Was it for his spiritual power? Or was it to... deal with him?

Jin Ling looked at the two of them and cried even harder: "I'm sorry...it's all my fault..."

"It's none of your business." Lan Wangji said to Jin Ling, but his tone was cold. "Go back with Wen Ning first, stay in the old house, and don't run around."

Wen Ning was called along on their way to look for Jin Ling. He was standing not far away with a serious expression.

"I'm not going back! I want to find Sizhui!" Jin Ling shook his head.

"Be obedient." Wei Wuxian took a deep breath, suppressed his surging emotions, and patted Jin Ling's head. "You can't help here. Go back and wait. We'll tell you as soon as we have news."

Jin Ling looked at his red eyes and finally nodded, but he still clutched the corner of his clothes tightly: "You must find him..."

"I will." Wei Wuxian's voice was deep, as if he was making a vow.

Watching Wen Ning and Jin Ling leave, Wei Wuxian immediately pulled out his phone. "I'll contact everyone I can, send out Si Zhui's photo, and have them stand guard at every intersection!"

Lan Wangji also took out his phone: "I'll check the surveillance cameras around the amusement park, as well as the sections of road we might have passed just now. Don't miss a single inch."

The two men acted separately, the beams of flashlights intertwining and separating in the darkness, like two anxious trapped beasts.

Time passed by minute by minute, and at three o'clock in the morning, the sky was turning pale, but there was still no news.

Wei Wuxian leaned against the car, chain-smoking, a pile of cigarette butts already forming on the floor. His eyes were bloodshot, his lips chapped, and he seemed to have lost all his strength.

"Haven't you found it yet?" He asked in a hoarse voice to Lan Wangji who had just hung up the phone.

Lan Wangji shook his head, his face pale. “The surveillance camera captured that van, but it disappeared in the blind spot on the outskirts of the city.”

“Blind spot…” Wei WuXian repeated these two words, his heart aching as if being cut by a knife. “They did it on purpose… They planned it all along…”

He recalled the time when Sizhui was captured by Wen Chao as a child. He had rushed to save him like a madman, only to end up in disgrace. History seemed to be repeating itself, and he remained powerless.

“Lan Zhan, I’m scared…” Wei Wuxian’s voice trembled slightly, “I’m scared something might happen to Si Zhui… He’s so well-behaved and sensible…”

Lan Wangji walked over and pulled him into his arms. His body was trembling, but he was holding on. From the moment he learned that Sizhui had been captured, he felt as if his heart was hanging in mid-air, and every second was torture.

"No." Lan Wangji's voice was deep, "We will definitely find him."

The sun was bright, but it couldn't penetrate the darkness in their hearts. They searched for another whole morning, using all the connections and resources they could, but still found no clues.

Around noon, Wei Wuxian suddenly felt dizzy, his body swayed, and he almost fell. Lan Wangji quickly supported him: "Wei Ying!"

“I’m fine…” Wei Wuxian waved his hands and tried to stand up straight, but he felt weak all over and the scene in front of him began to spin.

He was too tired. He hadn't slept or eaten anything since he found him yesterday afternoon. Coupled with the huge mental pressure, his body finally couldn't take it anymore.

"You must rest." Lan Wangji's tone left no room for doubt, and he picked him up by the waist. "I'll have Wen Ning come and get you. You go back first."

“I’m not going back!” Wei Wuxian struggled, “I haven’t found Sizhui yet… I can’t go back…”

"Be good." Lan Wangji's voice lowered, a hint of pleading in it. "If you fall, who will help me find him?"

Wei Wuxian was stunned. Looking at Lan Wangji’s bloodshot eyes and pale face, he finally closed his eyes powerlessly and let him carry him into the car.

In the last moment of his blurred consciousness, he seemed to see Sizhui standing under the Ferris wheel in the amusement park, smiling at him and calling him "Daddy".

"Si Zhui..." Wei Wuxian murmured, tears finally falling.

Lan Wangji looked at the unconscious Wei Wuxian, the pain in his eyes almost overflowing. He gently wiped Wei Wuxian's tears away, then looked at the still blank message screen on his phone and clenched his fists.

He won't give up.

He would bring their child back no matter what the cost.

The car slowly drove away. Lan Wangji looked out the window at the passing scenery, his eyes as cold as ice. He would not let any of those who had taken Sizhui go.
