Chapter 113 Secret

Chapter 113 Secret

When the ward door opened, Wei Wuxian was leaning against the headboard, Lan Wangji feeding him warm water. Seeing the people at the door, his hand holding the cup paused, his face paled even more, and he subconsciously avoided their gaze.

Lan Xichen walked in first, his eyes fixed on Wei Wuxian's pale face, then glanced at Sizhui, whose face was rosy on the bed next to him. He finally sighed without saying a word of blame: "How do you feel?"

Wei WuXian twitched the corners of his mouth, wanting to smile but lacking the energy: "It's nothing, it's just an old problem."

As soon as these words were spoken, the ward fell silent. Everyone knew that this wasn't just an "old ailment" at all, but the price paid for his life. Jiang Yanli looked at the thick gauze wrapped around his wrist, her eyes reddened, and she turned her head away.

Jiang Cheng frowned, wanting to say something, but Jin Zixuan quietly pulled him back. Any accusations at this moment were unnecessary. Wei Wuxian's choice, though foolish, concealed the deepest love. No one was qualified to judge.

Lan Qiren stood at the door, looking at Wei Wuxian with complicated eyes. In the end, he just snorted heavily, but his tone was no longer as harsh as before, but instead carried a hint of imperceptible heartache.

Wei Wuxian knew what they were going to say. He took a deep breath and struggled to sit up straight. Lan Wangji quickly reached out to support him, his eyes full of worry.

“I have something… I want to ask everyone.” Wei Wuxian’s voice was soft, yet unmistakable in its seriousness. “Sizhui… cannot know the truth.”

Everyone was stunned.

“When he wakes up, tell him…it was Wen Ning who developed the antidote, and it was everyone’s concerted efforts that saved him.” Wei Wuxian’s breathing was a little rapid, and every word seemed to be expending energy. “Don’t let him know…about the blood transfusion.”

He knew Sizhui too well. The child was thoughtful and sensible to the point of being heartbreaking. If he knew that he was able to survive because his father paid such a painful price, he would definitely feel guilty for the rest of his life and might even do something stupid.

"Axian..." Jiang Yanli wanted to say something, but was interrupted by Wei Wuxian.

“I beg you.” Wei Wuxian looked at them, a hint of pleading in his eyes. “He’s still young. We can’t let him live in guilt. I will bear all the suffering alone.”

Lan Xichen looked at his pale face and determined eyes and nodded: "Okay, we promise you."

“Thank you, brother.” Wei Wuxian breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Lan Wangji again, “Also… after Sizhui’s condition stabilizes, I want to move out with Lan Zhan for a while.”

"Move out?" Lan Wangji was stunned.

“Yeah.” Wei Wuxian nodded. “There are so many people in Yunshen Pavilion, it’s inevitable that the truth will be revealed. Besides… my body won’t be able to withstand the wind anymore, so moving to a small courtyard on the outskirts of the city is perfect. It’s quiet and peaceful.”

He paused, looking at Jin Ling and Lan Jingyi (who had also stood at the doorway at some point in time): "I'll ask you to take good care of Sizhui. And uncle, uncle, senior sister, Jiang Cheng... Please come visit him more often and don't let him feel lonely."

Jin Ling's eyes were red, and he nodded vigorously: "We will."

Lan Jingyi also choked up and said, "Don't worry, we will take good care of Sizhui!"

Wei Wuxian smiled and was about to say something else when a fishy-sweet taste suddenly surged in his throat. He suddenly turned his head and started coughing violently. A mouthful of blood sprayed onto the white bed sheet, like a blooming red plum, shocking to the eye.

“Wei Ying!” Lan Wangji’s expression suddenly changed. He quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe his mouth, his voice trembling with a barely perceptible tremor. “Stop talking! Lie down and rest!”

Wei Wuxian waved his hands, leaning weakly against Lan Wangji's chest, breathing rapidly. The coughing fit had almost exhausted all his strength, and his vision was blacking out.

“Promise me…” He held Lan Wangji’s hand, his eyes unfocused, but he still reminded him, “Don’t let him know…”

Lan Wangji hugged him tightly, his eyes red and his voice hoarse: "I promise you, I promise you everything..."

He lowered his head and kissed Wei Wuxian's sweaty forehead: "Stop talking and get some sleep, okay?"

Wei Wuxian looked at him, finally closing his eyes with peace of mind, and fell asleep in his arms. But even in his sleep, his brows were still tightly furrowed, as if he was enduring great pain.

Lan Wangji carefully laid him down and covered him with the quilt, his movements as gentle as if he were handling fragile porcelain. He stood up and looked at the crowd, his eyes a little tired but resolute. "Just do as he says."

Everyone nodded, feeling mixed emotions as they looked at Wei Wuxian sleeping soundly on the hospital bed and Si Zhui sleeping peacefully beside him.

The good news is that Si Zhui is finally out of danger; the sad news is that the pain Wei Wuxian is about to endure may be more than they imagined.

But they all knew that no one could change the decision Wei Wuxian had made. He had sacrificed his own life for Si Zhui's, and now he was using his last bit of strength to hold up a clear sky for Si Zhui.

This love is so heavy that it makes people breathless, but also so warm that it makes people cry.

Lan Xichen patted Lan Wangji’s shoulder and said, “If you need anything, feel free to contact us.”

"Yeah." Lan Wangji nodded.

Everyone quietly left the ward, leaving the space for them. Sunlight shone through the window, falling on the two beds. One sleeping face had wrinkles of pain, while the other had a faint smile on its peaceful sleeping face.

Lan Wangji sat beside the bed, holding Wei Wuxian's cold hand, and looked at him quietly.

Wei Ying, if you want to protect Si Zhui, I will protect you.

Since you don't want him to know the truth, I will keep this secret for you.

I will walk with you slowly on the road ahead.

No matter if it means six hours of pain or a lifetime of taking medicine, I will stay with you.

As long as you are here, I am not afraid.
