Chapter 135 Hug
When the school bell rang in the afternoon, Lan Sizhui ran out of the teaching building with his schoolbag on his back. As he reached the door, he saw two figures standing under the camphor tree.
Lan Wangji was wearing a plain shirt, his posture as straight as a pine tree; Wei Wuxian was wearing a thin coat, with a faint smile on his face, looking in his direction.
"Daddy! Father!" Si Zhui's eyes lit up and he rushed over quickly like a bird returning to its nest.
Wei Wuxian opened his arms and steadily caught the boy who rushed towards him. He smiled and ruffled his hair: "Run slowly, be careful not to fall."
"Dad, why are you here?" Si Zhui tilted his head, his eyes sparkling with joy.
"I'm here to take you home." Wei Wuxian's voice was slightly weak, but he tried to make it sound cheerful. "What do you want to eat today? Daddy will make it for you."
"Really? I want to eat lotus root and pork ribs soup!" Si Zhui cheered immediately.
Jin Ling and Lan Jingyi, who were standing nearby, also came over. Seeing Wei Wuxian, they both shouted in surprise, "Senior Wei! Uncle!"
“Oh, it’s you two.” Wei WuXian smiled and waved at them, “Would you like to join me in drinking the soup I made?”
"Hmm!" Lan Jingyi came over and looked at him curiously, "Senior Wei, you're finally back. Sizhui has been talking about you every day lately."
Jin Ling nodded as well, rarely refusing to be rude. He simply looked at Wei Wuxian and said, "I heard you were sick? Are you feeling better now?"
“I’m feeling better now!” Wei WuXian patted his chest, pretending to be in high spirits. “Look at me in this state. I can beat ten of you!”
"Tsk, you're just bragging." Jin Ling curled his lips, but the corners of his mouth couldn't help but rise.
Wei Wuxian smiled and pulled all three children into his arms. Sizhui was on his left, and Jin Ling and Jingyi were on his right. The warmth of the young men filtered through their clothes, carrying a vibrant energy that instantly filled his heart with warmth.
"Do you miss me?" Wei Wuxian asked with his head down.
"Yes!" the three teenagers answered in unison, their voices clear and loud, with sincerity from the heart.
Looking at the bright smiles on their faces, Wei Wuxian felt as if the heart-wrenching pain he had felt that afternoon had been an illusion. He tightened his arms and hugged the children even tighter, his nose rubbing against their soft hair, his eyes slightly warm.
That’s great.
So lively, noisy and full of life.
"Okay, it's time to go home." Lan Wangji walked over and gently patted Wei Wuxian's shoulder, with a gentle smile in his eyes, "If you keep holding them, they won't be able to breathe."
Wei Wuxian then let go of his hand, and the three teenagers scratched their heads a little embarrassedly, their cheeks red.
“Jin Ling, Jing Yi, do you want to come to my house for dinner?” Wei Wuxian invited with a smile, “Let me show you my cooking.”
"Okay, okay!" Lan Jingyi nodded immediately, his eyes shining. "I've been wanting to eat Senior Wei's cooking for a long time!"
Jin Ling hesitated for a moment, then nodded: "Then... I'll trouble you, uncle."
On the way back, the three children walked ahead, chattering about interesting things at school. Sizhui had completely forgotten about being called by the teacher that morning and was now excitedly telling Jin Ling and Jingyi that Wei Wuxian was going to make them lotus root and pork rib soup.
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji walked behind, listening to the laughter in front, and smiled at each other.
"Walk slowly, don't tire yourself out," Lan Wangji whispered, reaching out to support Wei Wuxian. He had clearly felt Wei Wuxian's body trembling slightly when he had held the child.
“It’s okay.” Wei Wuxian shook his head and looked at Sizhui who was jumping up and down in front of him, his eyes full of tenderness. “Look how happy he is.”
"Yeah." Lan Wangji responded, but he sighed secretly in his heart. He knew that this happiness was bought with so much pain from Wei Wuxian.
Arriving at Yunshen Pavilion, Wei Wuxian went straight into the kitchen and began to work. Lan Wangji wanted to help, but he pushed him away: "You go play with the kids, I'll take care of this."
Lan Wangji had no choice but to chat with the three teenagers in the living room, but his eyes would drift towards the kitchen from time to time.
In the kitchen, Wei Wuxian, wearing an apron, expertly washed and cut vegetables. The pain in his chest was still lingering, and a fine layer of cold sweat oozed from his forehead, but he kept a smile on his face.
When he heard Sizhui and Jingyi's laughter coming from the living room, he felt full of strength.
He wanted to cook a delicious meal for these children, wanted to see them eat with relish, and wanted to put all his warmth and love into this meal.
Soon, the aroma of food filled the whole house. Lotus root and pork rib soup, spicy fried peanuts, steamed fish... the table was full of dishes, all of which the children loved.
"Dinner is ready!" Wei Wuxian brought out the last dish and shouted with a smile.
"Wow! It smells so good!" Lan Jingyi was the first to rush over, his eyes wide open.
Si Zhui also ran over and helped set the table, his face full of pride: "I told you that Daddy's cooking is the best!"
While eating, the three children ate with great joy, their mouths filled with food, and they did not forget to give thumbs up to praise Wei Wuxian's cooking skills.
Wei Wuxian looked at them. He didn't eat much himself, but just kept picking up food for them, with a smile on his face all the time.
Lan Wangji looked at him and quietly took his hand under the table. It was cold and trembling. His heart ached, and he calmly put a piece of fish into his bowl. "Have some too."
Wei Wuxian smiled at him, lowered his head, and began to eat in small bites.
The sky outside the window gradually darkened, the lights came on, and the warm light illuminated every corner of the living room.
The laughter at the dinner table, mixed with the crisp sound of dishes and chopsticks colliding, formed the most heartwarming picture.
No one knew that Wei Wuxian, with his bright smile, was enduring severe pain in his body; no one knew how precious this seemingly ordinary dinner was to him.
Wei Wuxian looked at everything in front of him and prayed silently in his heart.
Let time stop at this moment.
Stop at this moment full of laughter and joy, stop at this moment surrounded by love and warmth.
As long as I can see them smile like this, it's worth it no matter how much pain it causes.
