Chapter 156 Family Concern

Chapter 156 Family Concern

In the afternoon, Jiang Yanli brought Jiang Cheng and Jin Zixuan to Yunshen Pavilion. They said they were there to visit Wei Wuxian, but in fact they were worried about him and wanted to personally check on his condition.

As soon as I walked into the living room, I heard a suppressed cough.

“Cough cough… cough…”

Wei Wuxian leaned against the sofa, handkerchief tightly clutched in his hand, his shoulders heaving slightly from coughing. His already pale face now took on an unnatural flush. Lan Wangji sat beside him, gently stroking his back, his brows thick with worry.

"Ah Xian!" Jiang Yanli walked over quickly. Seeing his expression, her eyes instantly turned red. "Why are you coughing so violently?"

Wei WuXian finally stopped coughing and took a breath. Seeing them, he forced a smile and said, "Senior Sister, you're here. It's okay, it's just an old ailment. It will be fine soon."

But when he spoke, his voice was very hoarse and his breathing was a little rapid.

Jiang Cheng stood aside, his brow furrowed as he looked at Wei Wuxian's pale face and trembling hands. Something seemed to be blocking his heart. He was always tongue-tied and couldn't find words to comfort him. He could only ask dully, "Have you seen a doctor? Did you take your medicine on time?"

"I've checked it out, and he's taking the medicine." Lan Wangji answered for Wei Wuxian, a hint of helplessness in his tone, "It's just that this old injury has recurred, so it won't heal so easily."

Jin Zixuan also stepped forward, looked at Wei Wuxian, and said gently, "Do you want to ask the Jin family's doctors to come and take a look? They may have some ideas for treating the body."

Wei Wuxian shook his head: "No need to trouble my brother-in-law. Lan Zhan has already found the best doctor. He will just need to take good care of himself."

As soon as he finished speaking, he was hit by another coughing fit, more violent than before, and a glaring red could be seen faintly on the handkerchief.

"Axian!" Jiang Yanli exclaimed and hurriedly tried to help him, but was stopped by Lan Wangji.

"Don't touch him. Let him rest." Lan Wangji's voice was low, with undeniable determination. He continued to gently stroke Wei Wuxian's back, the pain in his eyes almost overflowing.

Jiang Yanli couldn't help but shed tears as she watched Wei Wuxian coughing so hard he could barely breathe. Thinking back to the time when that carefree young man who had been so active in the Lotus Pier was now suffering from illness, how could she not feel heartache?

Jiang Cheng turned his head away, looking out the window, his eyes warming. He remembered how Wei Wuxian always loved to snatch things from him when they were little, always trying to make him angry. But seeing him suffer like this, he felt worse than anyone else.

Jin Zixuan gently patted Jiang Yanli's back and whispered a few words of comfort. When his eyes fell on Wei Wuxian, they were full of sympathy.

After a long while, Wei Wuxian's coughing finally subsided. He leaned against Lan Wangji's chest, eyes closed, looking extremely weak.

"It's all my fault. If it weren't for Jin Ling..." Jiang Yanli wiped her tears, her voice choked with sobs.

"Senior Sister, this is none of your business. Jin Ling and Si Zhui are both my children. I will never let anything happen to them." Wei Wuxian opened his eyes and interrupted her. Although his voice was weak, it was serious. "It's all in the past. Don't think about it anymore."

He smiled, trying to lighten the mood: "Look, I'm fine now, aren't I? I have Lan Zhan taking care of me, and Si Zhui, that clever little guy, is thinking of me. I'm fine."

Jiang Yanli looked at his forced smile, and her heart ached even more. However, she knew she couldn't bring up the past and upset him, so she could only nod, "Okay, I won't think about it anymore. You, just focus on recuperating and don't think about anything."

She turned to Lan Wangji and said, "Wangji, I'll leave Ah Xian in your care. If there's anything you need help with, please let us know."

"I will. Thank you for your concern, Senior Sister." Lan Wangji nodded.

Jiang Cheng also turned around, looked at Wei Wuxian, and said in a muffled voice, "Take good care of yourself and don't try to be stubborn. If Lan Wangji can't take good care of you, tell me."

Wei WuXian was amused by him and said in a hoarse voice, "I understand, Sect Master Jiang, Junior Sister Jiang, I will definitely complain to you when the time comes."

Seeing that he finally showed a sincere smile, the atmosphere in the living room eased a little.

Jiang Yanli and the others didn't stay long, fearing to disturb Wei Wuxian's rest. Before leaving, Jiang Yanli placed a pot of lotus root and pork rib soup she had personally cooked on the table: "This is for you. Drink some to warm you up and it's good for your throat."

"Thank you, Senior Sister."

After seeing them off, Wei Wuxian leaned back on the sofa, looking at the pot of pork rib soup, feeling warm inside.

Lan Wangji picked up the blanket and gently covered him with it: "Are you tired? Go lie down on the bed for a while."

Wei Wuxian nodded and let Lan Wangji pick him up.

“Lan Zhan,” he whispered, leaning into Lan Wangji’s arms, “Am I troublesome?”

"It's not a problem." Lan Wangji lowered his head and kissed his forehead, his tone gentle but firm, "I'm here."

Wei Wuxian smiled and closed his eyes.

The coughing sound still persists, but because of the warmth around me and the care from afar, it doesn't seem so unbearable.

He knew that with so many people caring about him, he would definitely get better soon.

must.
