Chapter 200: Best Friends Laughing
The Monday morning sun shone brightly on the camphor trees on the university campus. When Sizhui walked into the classroom with his schoolbag on his back, Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling had already taken seats by the window and were discussing the weekend's basketball game.
"Si Zhui! Here!" Lan Jingyi waved to him as soon as he saw him. Just as he was about to complain that he had stood her up last week, his eyes first fell on Si Zhui's hand - the platinum ring on his ring finger was sparkling with tiny light in the sun, making it particularly eye-catching.
Lan Jingyi's voice was stuck for a moment, and he pointed at his hand with his eyes wide open: "You...what is that on your hand?!"
Jin Ling also looked over, raised his eyebrows, and said with a hint of surprise: "Ring? You are in love? When did it happen? How come we didn't know?"
Si Zhui felt a little embarrassed by the stares from the two men. He sat down next to them, rubbing the ring lightly with his fingertips. The corners of his mouth couldn't help but rise: "It's not a relationship... it's an engagement."
"Engagement?!" Lan Jingyi jumped up from his chair, attracting the attention of his classmates. He quickly lowered his voice, but couldn't hide his shock. "Who? So soon? You're only eighteen!"
"With Brother Lin Yan." Si Zhui's voice was filled with a sweet smile. When he mentioned Lin Yan, his eyes seemed to be filled with stars. "We got engaged last week. When I reach the legal age, I will go to get the marriage certificate."
"Lin Yan?!" Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling looked at each other, and both saw the understanding of "as expected" in each other's eyes.
Jin Ling scoffed, leaning back in his chair, his tone teasing, "I knew that you and Lin Yan would end up like this sooner or later. You used to cling to her every day, but now you're just selling yourself out."
"What do you mean by 'selling'?" Si Zhui's cheeks flushed as he softly retorted, "We are serious. Brother Lin Yan... loves me very much."
"I really love you." Lan Jingyi sat back in his chair, scratched his head, and said with a hint of envy, "Last time you got into a fight, Lin Yan rushed forward to block the knife for you. We all heard about it. He's a reliable person to be able to protect you like this."
He paused, then suddenly leaned over and asked mysteriously, "Hey, when is the engagement ceremony? Will there be delicious food? Can we go?"
"Of course I can go." Si Zhui nodded with a smile, "Brother Lin Yan said he wanted to prepare the ceremony himself. The specific time hasn't been decided yet. I'll let you know when it's decided."
"That's a deal, don't forget us when the time comes." Lan Jingyi patted his shoulder, his tone full of excitement, "I've never attended an engagement ceremony before, so I must prepare a big gift for you!"
Jin Ling also nodded: "Count me in. But don't be too happy too soon. If Lin Yan dares to bully you in the future, we two will be the first to not let him go."
Si Zhui felt warm in his heart. Looking at the two good friends who had grown up together, he said seriously, "Thank you. Brother Lin Yan will never bully me. He is very nice to me."
The bell rang, and the teacher walked into the classroom, textbook in hand. The three of them paused their conversation. Sizhui sat in his seat, listening to the teacher's lecture, his fingertips occasionally stroking the ring on his ring finger.
The sunlight shone through the window onto the ring, reflecting a gentle light, like Lin Yan's gaze on him. He suddenly felt that happiness could be so simple - having someone you love by your side, having good friends by your side, and having the blessings of your family, that was enough.
When the get out of class was over, Lan Jingyi came over again and whispered, "Hey, Sizhui, do you want to tell your homeroom teacher about your engagement with Lin Yan? Last time you got into a fight, your homeroom teacher was worried about you. Now that he knows you have someone to back you up, he might feel relieved."
Si Zhui was stunned for a moment, then shook his head: "No need, this is our own business, there is no need to let everyone know."
"That's right." Lan Jingyi nodded, and began to curiously ask about the details of the engagement ring, such as who chose the ring and whether Lin Yan said any sweet words to him.
Si Zhui's cheeks flushed when he was asked this question, but he still patiently shared with them - when Lin Yan picked out the ring, he deliberately chose the simple style he liked, and even engraved his name on the inside of the ring; when he took out the ring, Lin Yan was so nervous that his palms were sweating, and he said that he wanted him to feel at ease forever.
Jin Ling couldn't help but smile as he listened. Although he often bickered with Si Zhui, he was genuinely happy for him. Si Zhui had always felt insecure, and now that someone as attentive and determined as Lin Yan was watching over him, it was a relief for everyone.
When school was over, Lin Yan's car was already parked at the school gate. Si Zhui said goodbye to Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling and ran over happily.
When Lin Yan saw him, a gentle smile instantly appeared in his eyes. He pushed open the car door and reached out to ruffle his hair: "How was school today? Did anyone ask you about the ring?"
"Yes, Jingyi and Jin Ling asked, and I told them about our engagement." Sizhui got into the car and happily shared what happened at school with him. "They also said they would attend our engagement ceremony and prepare gifts for us."
Lin Yan smiled and nodded: "Okay, let them come together then."
The car started slowly. Si Zhui leaned back in the chair, looking at the street scene passing by outside the window, then looked down at the ring on his ring finger, his heart filled with happiness.
He knew that there was still a long way to go in the future, and many wonderful things were waiting for them. And he would hold Lin Yan's hand, step by step, steadily walk forward, and make every ordinary day sweet.
