Chapter 206: Xianxian Provokes "Complaint"

Ever since the family moved to the Celestial Palace, the scenery of Yunshen Pavilion had been faithfully replicated in the southeast corner of the Celestial Realm—green bamboos framing the courtyard, magnolias filling the grounds, even the arrangement of the books in the study was perfectly accurate. However, after only a few days of peace and quiet, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian received instructions from Jun Wu to assist with official duties at the Celestial Palace: Lan Wangji would oversee the maintenance of order within the immortal sect and the revision of classics, while Wei Wuxian would oversee the mediation of resentment between the mortal realm and the Celestial Realm, learning the official procedures from a veteran Celestial official.

Lan Wangji, a naturally calm and composed man, quickly took to the responsibilities after taking them on. He would go to the Central Palace every morning to handle official documents and return home promptly in the evening. Occasionally, he would bring a couple of ancient celestial books to Sizhui to entertain him. However, Wei Wuxian became the "number one problem" in ascending to the Heavenly Palace.

The person in charge of teaching Wei Wuxian how to handle official business was the most senior official in the Heavenly Court, Wenqu. On the first day of class, Wenqu had just spread out the "Code of Conduct for Official Affairs in the Celestial Realm" when he saw Wei Wuxian, his chin resting on his hand, his eyes drifting toward the cranes in the Imperial Garden outside the window. He muttered quietly, "These crane feathers are so beautiful! If I plucked one and made it into a pen, would the words I wrote have an ethereal aura?"

Wenqu Xianguan's beard stood on end with rage, and he pounded on the table. "Your Highness Wei Wuxian! Please pay attention! If even one word is wrong in this document for channeling resentment, it could bring disaster to the mortal world!"

“Oh, old immortal official, don’t be anxious.” Wei Wuxian chuckled and picked up the pen to scribble a few strokes. “Isn’t it just filling in a place name and recording a time? When I was catching evil spirits in the human world, I remembered things more complicated than this!” But when the immortal official Wenqu checked, he found that he had written “Western Shu Resentment Point” as “Western Shu Hot Pot Point” and even drew a crooked hot pot pattern next to it.

In the following days, Wei Wuxian's "deeds" spread throughout the Central Hall: he would either sneak out to watch the mortal market under the pretext of "unusual movement of mortal resentment", or draw a small portrait on official documents, and even changed the instrument for venting resentment into a flute-shaped one similar to "Chen Qing", calling it "convenient".

Wenqu Xianguan could no longer tolerate this and would go to Junwu every evening with his official documents to "complain": "Your Majesty, Junwu! His Highness Xian skipped classes again today! He even changed the 'Heavenly Resentment Channeling Process' into flute music! If this continues, the resentment in the mortal world will pile up like a mountain!"

Jun Wu was always at a loss for words, trying to appease the irritated Wenqu Immortal Official while sending people to look for Wei Wuxian. But every time he found Wei Wuxian, he'd either be teaching a young fairy to play the flute in the Imperial Garden or polishing a wood carving in Sizhui's study, arguing confidently, "How can handling official business be more important than spending time with my son Sizhui? Besides, those rules and regulations are too rigid. I call this 'flexible work'!"

That evening, Wenqu Xianguan arrived to file another complaint. As he reached the Golden Palace's entrance, he heard Jun Wu's laughter emanating from within. Peeking out, he saw Wei Wuxian, holding a newly crafted bamboo flute, demonstrating to Jun Wu how to channel his resentment through the sound of the flute. As the flute played, a wisp of black air drifting from outside the palace instantly dissipated, several times faster than would be possible according to the canonical procedures.

Jun Wu smiled and patted Wenqu Xianguan on the shoulder: "Old Xianguan, you see, Wuxian's 'flexible working' may not be a bad thing."

Immortal Wenqu stood there in a daze, looking at Wei Wuxian's smug smile, then looking at Lan Wangji who nodded in approval, and suddenly felt that perhaps the official business in Heaven didn't have to be carried out according to routine.

Seeing that the "complaint" incident was over, Wei Wuxian immediately dragged Lan Wangji home, shouting, "Wangji! Go home and make lotus root and pork rib soup for Zhui'er! I also promised to carve a celestial crane wooden sculpture for him today!"

Under the setting sun, the two figures gradually faded away. Outside the Golden Palace, magnolia petals drifted in the wind, carrying a gentleness unique to heaven. Wenqu Xianguan gazed at their backs, sighed softly, and couldn't help but curl his lips. Perhaps, with this family in the heavens, these days would be much more interesting than before.
