Chapter 224: Love is strong day and night, and a warm bed accompanies the sleep

In the bedroom behind the Golden Palace, the curtains hung low, completely isolating the outside noise. Jun Wu gently held Mei Nianqing in his arms, his fingertips brushing across the corners of his red eyes, his tone full of care: "Are you tired?"

Mei Nianqing leaned on his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat, her voice a little lazy and hoarse: "You... are full of energy." Although her words were filled with anger, her fingertips gently grasped Jun Wu's clothes, with no intention of pushing him away.

The warmth of last night's passion still lingered around him, leaving a faint soreness from his hair to his fingertips. Jun Wu lowered his head and placed a gentle kiss on his forehead, slowing down his movements. "Go to sleep, I'll keep you company."

Mei Nianqing didn't respond, simply huddled in his arms and closed her eyes. The tension of the past few days, combined with last night's intimacy, quickly washed over her, and her breathing gradually became steady. Jun Wu held him like this, his eyes fixed on his peaceful sleeping face, a tenderness in his eyes.

During the thousands of years of loneliness he had lived, he had long been accustomed to handling celestial affairs alone, to gazing at the starry nights alone. That was until Mei Nianqing showed up, grinding ink for him, sharing his worries, offering him a cup of hot tea when he was tired, and gently counseling him when he was lost. This companionship had already, unknowingly, become the most indispensable light in his life.

The morning light filtered through the gaps in the curtains, gently casting a light upon the two of them. Jun Wu did not move, fearing to disturb the person in his arms. He gently stroked Mei Nianqing's long hair, his fingertips carefully cherishing it, as if he were holding the most precious treasure of a thousand years.

It was almost noon when Mei Nianqing slowly woke up. As soon as she opened her eyes, she met Jun Wu's gentle gaze. Her cheeks flushed instantly. She hurriedly tried to get up, but Jun Wu held her back, "Lie down for a while. I'll have lunch delivered to the bedroom."

"That's not right," Mei Nianqing said softly, "I still have official business to attend to, as for Sizhui..."

"Official business is not urgent," Jun Wu interrupted him, his tone full of unquestionable firmness, "Si Zhui has the fairy boy to look after him. Nian Qing, today I just want to accompany you."

Mei Nianqing saw the seriousness in his eyes and finally nodded, leaning back into his arms. The sunlight outside the window was just right, and the bedroom was so quiet that only the sound of each other's breathing could be heard. This rare leisure and warmth made him feel at peace.

Jun Wu held him like this, occasionally whispering about funny things in the past - the jokes he made when he first ascended the throne, the scene when he first met Mei Nianqing, and the concerns he had hidden in his heart over the years. Mei Nianqing listened quietly, occasionally responding with a word or two, with a faint smile on his face.

In the afternoon, Jun Wu had someone bring warm lotus seed soup and carefully fed it to Mei Nianqing's mouth. Mei Nianqing ate it in small bites, her eyes fixed on Jun Wu's focused profile. Suddenly, she felt that a day like this was more heart-warming than any nectar.

As the sun set, Mei Nianqing leaned against Jun Wu's chest and gradually fell asleep. Jun Wu gently covered him with a thin blanket and looked down at his sleeping face, his eyes full of satisfaction. He knew that in the years to come, he would no longer feel endless loneliness, because he finally had someone by his side who he wanted to spend his life with.

At that moment, in the Qingxiu Monastery, Sizhui sat at his desk, diligently copying the "Master's Rules" for the final time. When the fairy child whispered to him that he would see his family tomorrow, his eyes lit up instantly, and his handwriting became even more neat. Little did he know that his grandfather and master had also found their own happiness on that warm afternoon.
