Chapter 80 The Chaos Before Departure

Chapter 80 The Chaos Before Departure

The production team sent word that they were organizing a "family joint recording," inviting the families to gather at a farm for two days, supposedly to capture the "sparks of interaction between different families." When the news reached the old house, Wei Wuxian was checking Sizhui's homework. Upon hearing this, he immediately made the decision: "Go! We must go! This is a great opportunity for Jingyi and Jin Ling to learn some etiquette from Sizhui—"

Before he could finish his words, he was interrupted by Lan Jingyi's scream: "Going to the farm? Can we pick fruits and catch fish?"

Jin Ling rolled his eyes: "Are you going to play or record the show?"

“That’s the best of both worlds!” Lan Jingyi made a face at him, then turned and stalked over to Wei Wuxian. “Senior Wei, what should we bring? Can I bring my game console?”

Wei WuXian was getting so annoyed by his pestering that he simply announced, "We're going to the supermarket this afternoon to do some shopping. Anyone who doesn't obey me won't be allowed to bring any snacks!"

These words worked better than anything else. The three children immediately lined up, and Lan Jingyi even took the initiative to carry the shopping bag: "Promise to be obedient!"

The camera followed them all the way to the supermarket. As soon as they entered the door, Wei Wuxian was attracted by the snacks on the shelves. He squatted in the potato chip area to study the taste, forgetting his original intention of "buying necessities".

“Senior Wei! These spicy snacks are super delicious!” Lan Jingyi rushed over holding a bag of bright red snacks, but Wei Wuxian snatched it away, “Children can’t eat anything too spicy.”

"Then you can eat the mustard-flavored potato chips in your hand?" Jin Ling interrupted, pointing at the "dangerous goods" in Wei Wuxian's arms.

Wei WuXian said confidently, "I am an adult."

As he was speaking, Sizhui came over with a bag of nuts and whispered, "Daddy, Father said to buy something healthy."

“I know.” Wei WuXian agreed, but he threw two bags of marshmallows into the shopping cart. “To fill your stomach on the way.”

The barrage was hilarious:

"Hahahaha, Teacher Wei is just a big kid himself!"

"Jingyi is like a husky on the loose, Jinling is like a cat with its fur standing on end, and Sizhui is the only sane person in the world!"

"Help! Eighty percent of what they took was food! Are they going camping or having a snack party?"

The chaos escalated in the fresh produce section. Lan Jingyi insisted on buying a lively hairy crab, saying he'd "cook it himself," but ended up getting pinched by the crab, causing him to cry out in pain. Jin Ling wanted to pick out the biggest watermelon, but he couldn't take more than a few steps before dropping it, spilling the red flesh everywhere. Si Zhui went to help him, but tripped over a rolling winter melon, smashing the tomato in his hand into a pulp.

Wei Wuxian had just paid the bill at the snack bar when he turned around to see three children standing in the mess. Lan Jingyi was holding up a bleeding finger with a sad face, Jin Ling was staring at the watermelon on the ground with a red face, and Si Zhui was looking at the corner of his clothes stained with tomato juice at a loss.

"My ancestors!" Wei Wuxian was overwhelmed. He quickly asked the staff to apologize and pay compensation, and then took the three children to treat their wounds.

Lan Jingyi's finger was pinched by a crab, and he cried loudly while putting a Band-Aid on it: "I will never touch crab again! It's more vicious than Uncle Wen Ning's spicy crayfish!"

Jin Ling awkwardly hid the clothes stained with melon pulp behind him, but Wei Wuxian grabbed him and said, "Don't move. You can't wash it off once it gets on you."

Si Zhui lowered his head and whispered, "Dad, I'm sorry, I didn't take good care of them."

Wei WuXian was both angry and amused. He squatted down and ruffled their hair one by one. "It's okay. Just be more careful next time. Besides, I'm here if you get into trouble."

Just as he finished speaking, Lan Wangji came over, pushing another shopping cart. It was neatly packed with daily necessities: toothbrushes, towels, mosquito repellent, even Band-Aids and iodine. Clearly worried, he quietly followed.

“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian’s eyes lit up, as if he had seen a savior. “Help me take care of them!”

Lan Wangji said nothing, simply picking up the iodine and treating Lan Jingyi's wound. The boy immediately stopped crying and obediently reached out his hand. The man who had been howling just a moment ago didn't even frown now.

Seeing this, Jin Ling silently extended his arm—he had scraped his skin when he fell earlier and had been too embarrassed to mention it. Si Zhui then offered his tomato-soaked hand and whispered, "Thank you, Father."

The barrage was instantly hit by this contrast like a tide:

"Hahahaha, Jingyi, where's that arrogance you had just now? How come you became like a mouse seeing a cat when you saw Boss Lan? You instantly became timid!"

"Boss Lan is truly a reassurance! As soon as he appeared, the whole atmosphere returned to normal, just like a cloudy sky suddenly clearing up!"

"Teacher Wei is responsible for causing trouble, and Boss Lan is responsible for cleaning up the mess. This division of labor is simply perfect (not really)!"

The purchase was finally completed successfully under Lan Wangji's strategic planning. When checking out, Wei Wuxian looked at the pile of shopping bags and scratched his head, looking annoyed: "It seems I bought too much..."

Lan Wangji calmly scanned the code to pay, his tone calm and composed, "Enough to eat."

“Why do you buy everything for them?” Wei WuXian leaned forward like a curious kitten, lowering his voice and asking, “If you keep pampering them like this, what will happen in the future?”

Lan Wangji glanced at the three children, who were hugging their snack bags and smiling as brightly as spring flowers. Then he glanced at Wei Wuxian, whose eyes were gleaming with anticipation. His tone softened unconsciously, "Once in a while, it's okay."

On the way back, Lan Jingyi munched on a bag of biscuits and mumbled, "Uncle Lan, can you teach me how to tie a tie later? I want to look smarter tomorrow."

Jin Ling immediately responded: "I want to learn too!"

Although Si Zhui didn't say anything, he quietly pulled at the corner of Lan Wangji's clothes.

Lan Wangji nodded: "Yes."

Wei Wuxian sat in the passenger seat, looking at the three expectant little ones in the rearview mirror, then glancing at Lan Wangji, who was driving seriously beside him, and suddenly smiled. Sunlight streamed in through the car window, falling on everyone's face with a subtle warmth.

He took out his phone and scrolled through the comments, which were filled with messages like "Looking forward to tomorrow's family gathering", "I want to see the children from different families quarreling with each other", and "Teacher Wei, please don't lose the child again."

“Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian poked his arm, “Do you think our group will be the most lively there?”

Lan Wangji looked ahead, but the corners of his mouth curled up slightly: "Yes."

After all, with the trouble-making Wei Wuxian, three energetic children, and myself always cleaning up the mess, it's hard not to be lively.

But this kind of noise seems to be not bad.

Wei Wuxian saw the smile in his eyes, his heart sweet with joy. He quietly turned his phone camera towards Lan Wangji and captured this rare and gentle profile. The barrage of comments instantly filled the screen with "Ahhhhh", but he was only concerned with secretly laughing - it seemed that tomorrow's trip to the farm was destined to be not boring.
