Chapter 90 Companionship

Chapter 90 Companionship

The week after Si Zhui recovered from his illness, Lan Wangji turned down all unnecessary meetings and Wei Wuxian also took a leave of absence. The two of them stayed by his side almost every step of the way.

As the morning sun crept over the windowsill, Wei Wuxian walked in with warm milk, followed by Lan Wangji, who was holding a peeled apple. Sizhui had just woken up and sat up, rubbing his eyes. Looking at the two people beside the bed, he suddenly felt a little embarrassed.

"Daddy, father, I'm fine now. There's no need for this."

"Just a few more days." Lan Wangji handed him the apple, his tone unquestionable, "The doctor said you need to rest well."

Wei WuXian sat on the bed and straightened his hair. “That’s right. Anyway, your father has plenty of time to spend with you now.” He pulled out a comic book from behind him. “Look, I bought this especially for you. It’s the latest edition of ‘Xianxia Shao Nian’.”

Si Zhui's eyes lit up, he took it and flipped through a few pages, and couldn't help but curl up the corners of his mouth.

The old house was always bustling with activity these days. Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling would pop into Sizhui's room after school, and the three of them would huddle together, reading comics and playing with blocks. They'd occasionally argue, but they'd always fall silent the moment Wei Wuxian called out, "Quiet down."

Lan Wangji would sit off to the side processing documents, occasionally glancing up at the children, his gaze always lingering for a few seconds when it landed on Sizhui. Wei Wuxian, on the other hand, was busy making snacks for them, deliberately burning a few cookies while baking them, only to burst into laughter as Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling scrambled to eat them.

One afternoon, Si Zhui leaned against the headboard, reading a comic. Wei Wuxian lay at his feet, playing with his phone. Lan Wangji sat by the window, reading documents. Sunlight streamed in through the gauze curtains, casting dappled shadows on the floor. The air was filled with the faint aroma of cookies.

"Dad," Si Zhui suddenly closed the book, "You don't have to stay with me all the time. Work is more important."

Wei WuXian looked up, raised an eyebrow, and asked, "Why? Are you finding us annoying?"

"No." Si Zhui quickly shook his head, "I think..."

"Think we didn't spend enough time with you before?" Lan Wangji put down the documents and came over to sit on the bed. "Then let's make up for it now."

Si Zhui's eyes were red, he lowered his head and whispered, "That's not what I meant..."

"I know." Lan Wangji patted his head, "But this is what we want to do."

Wei Wuxian came over and put his arm around Sizhui's shoulders: "I used to always think about earning some kind of like point, but now I understand that your happiness is more important than anything else."

Si Zhui raised his head and looked at the seriousness in his father's and dad's eyes. He suddenly smiled, but tears fell from his eyes: "Yeah."

The audience in the barrage watched this heartwarming scene and left messages:

"Wow, this is what a family should be like!"

"I always thought Mr. Lan and Teacher Wei were too busy, but now it's great!"

"Si Zhui smiled! He finally smiled in these few days!"

"Companionship is the best medicine! Look how much more energetic the child is!"

In the evening, Lan Xichen and Jiang Yanli came to see Sizhui and brought him lotus root and pork ribs soup made by Jiang Yanli herself.

"Try it quickly. It'll nourish you." Jiang Yanli filled a bowl and handed it to Sizhui. "You've lost weight these past few days."

Si Zhui had just taken a sip when he heard Lan Jingyi screaming from outside: "Senior Wei! Uncle Lan! Come and see! Jin Ling broke my model!"

Jin Ling's voice came immediately: "It fell down by itself! It's none of my business!"

Wei Wuxian shook his head helplessly and was about to go out to take a look when he was stopped by Sizhui.

"Dad, I'll go." Si Zhui put down the bowl of soup, "I'll go and persuade them."

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji looked at each other and nodded.

Si Zhui walked out of the room and saw Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling arguing over a broken model. Lan Jingyi was so angry that his face turned red, and Jin Ling's face also turned red. Neither of them was willing to give in.

"Stop arguing." Si Zhui walked over and picked up the model fragments on the ground. "I can repair this model. I've repaired more complicated ones before."

Lan Jingyi was stunned: "Really?"

Jin Ling also looked at him: "Can you repair it?"

Si Zhui nodded: "Well, let's fix it together. Once it's fixed, it will be a complete model."

Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling looked at each other and fell silent. After a while, Lan Jingyi picked up a piece of debris and said, "Then I'll be responsible for finding glue."

Jin Ling also picked up a piece: "I'll be responsible for assembling the base."

Sizhui smiled, picked up the pieces and began to piece them together. The afterglow of the setting sun shone through the window, falling on the three children and stretching their shadows very long.

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji stood at the door, watching this scene, both smiling with relief.

“Look, the kids have grown up.” Wei Wuxian leaned on Lan Wangji’s shoulder. “Si Zhui is becoming more and more like a big brother.”

Lan Wangji nodded and squeezed Wei Wuxian’s hand, “Yes.”

He suddenly understood that so-called companionship is not just about staying by your side, but also about watching your children grow up slowly in love, learn to deal with their own problems, and know how to cherish the people around them.

At night, Sizhui lay in bed, listening to the laughter coming from the next room, a sweet smile on his face. He knew that his father and his father might still be very busy, but he was no longer afraid, because he knew that no matter how far they went, they would always think of him and would always come back to him when he needed them.

Moonlight streamed in through the window, illuminating everything in the room. Sizhui turned over, hugged the comic book his father had given him, and closed his eyes in peace.

He had a sweet dream. In the dream, his dad and father took him, Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling to a farm, where they picked apples, caught butterflies and laughed happily.
