Chapter 190 The Old-Fashioned Man Going Abroad
The flight to New York took off early in the morning. Sizhui leaned against the window, watching the buildings on the ground shrink and become blurred blocks of color, feeling a mixture of nervousness and anticipation.
"Are you scared?" Lin Yan handed over a cup of warm water. His left hand was inconvenient, so his movements were a little clumsy.
Si Zhui shook his head, then nodded and whispered, "A little bit. It's my first time flying to such a far place."
"Don't be afraid, I'm here." Lin Yan's voice was steady, like a reassurance. "If you get airsick, tell me and I'll get you some medicine."
He dug out motion sickness medicine, an eye mask, and a small blanket from his bag and placed them in front of Sizhui, all of which had been prepared in advance. Sizhui felt warm in his heart as he watched him busy, and his previous nervousness dissipated a lot.
Long-distance flights are boring, and Si Zhui started to feel sleepy after watching a movie for a while. He leaned closer to Lin Yan, his head unconsciously resting on his shoulder. Lin Yan stiffened for a moment, then slowly relaxed, adjusting to a comfortable position so that he could lean more steadily.
Sunlight streamed in through the porthole, falling on Si Zhui's peaceful sleeping face. His long eyelashes fluttered like two small fans. Lin Yan looked down at him, his heart suddenly softening. The wound on his palm still ached, but compared to this secure dependence, it seemed nothing.
He took out his phone and quietly took a picture of the scene. In the photo, the boy leaned on his shoulder, a faint smile on his face, like a contented kitten.
More than ten hours later, the plane landed at New York's JFK International Airport. Stepping out of the cabin, Si Zhui was hit by a gust of cold air, and he subconsciously shrank closer to Lin Yan.
"Are you cold?" Lin Yan wrapped the scarf he had prepared long ago around him, twisting it around twice, leaving only his eyes exposed. "Let's go, the car is waiting outside."
Sitting in the car, Sizhui curiously surveyed the streetscape outside the window. Tall buildings and a constant stream of traffic were a stark contrast to the tranquility of Yunshen Pavilion, yet it possessed a unique kind of liveliness.
"Let's go to the hotel to put our luggage first, and then take you to eat something." Lin Yan rubbed his hair. "What do you want to eat?"
"It's all right." Si Zhui said with a smile. As long as he was with Brother Lin, it seemed that it didn't matter what he ate.
The hotel room was spacious, with a view of the Hudson River in the distance. Lin Yan put his luggage away and began to deal with work emails. Si Zhui didn't disturb him. He just sat on the sofa by the window, stroking the small wooden kite sculpture in his hand and watching the cars pass by outside.
He suddenly realized that leaving a familiar place was not that scary as long as Lin Yan was by his side.
By the time Lin Yan finished his work, it was already dark. He walked over to Si Zhui and saw him staring out the window, still clutching the kite.
"What are you thinking about?"
Si Zhui turned around, his eyes sparkling: "I was wondering if the stars here are the same as those at home."
Lin Yan smiled and took his hand as they walked out: "Just go and take a look and you'll know. By the way, I'll take you to eat the best chocolate in New York."
New York was bustling at night, its streets ablaze with lights and a constant stream of people. Lin Yan held Si Zhui's hand tightly, afraid of getting lost in the crowd. Si Zhui held him tightly, but his heart felt at ease, as if he had the most secure support in the world.
They went to a supposedly famous chocolate shop. Lin Yan bought a large box of various chocolates and asked Si Zhui to choose from them. Si Zhui picked up a heart-shaped chocolate and held it to Lin Yan's lips: "Brother Lin, have some."
Lin Yan was stunned for a moment, opened his mouth and took a bite. The sweet taste melted on the tip of his tongue, and his heart also felt sweet.
"Is it delicious?" Si Zhui asked, looking up.
"It's delicious." Lin Yan said with a smile, "It's better than any chocolate I've ever eaten."
Si Zhui felt a little embarrassed by his praise. He lowered his head and ate the chocolate in his hand in small bites, but the corners of his mouth couldn't help but rise.
On the way back to the hotel, Si Zhui suddenly stopped, looked at the Statue of Liberty in the distance, and whispered, "Brother Lin, can we go there tomorrow?"
"Of course." Lin Yan nodded. "But I have to go to the company for a meeting tomorrow morning. I'll take you there in the afternoon, okay?"
"Okay!" Si Zhui nodded vigorously, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
Back at the hotel, Si Zhui washed up and got into bed. Lin Yan sat on the edge of the bed, tucking in the quilt for him. Suddenly, she remembered something and took something out of her bag.
"This is for you."
It was a small voice recorder with a sticky note on it that said "Listen to this when you miss me."
Si Zhui was stunned. Looking at the recorder, his eyes suddenly felt a little warm: "Brother Lin..."
"I might be late for a meeting tomorrow." Lin Yan ruffled his hair and said softly, "I recorded some sounds of wood carving. If you can't sleep, just listen to it. It'll feel like I'm right by your side."
Si Zhui picked up the recorder, held it tightly in his hand, and nodded vigorously: "Yes!"
Lin Yan looked at him, smiled, and stood up to wash up. When he reached the door, he was suddenly stopped by Si Zhui.
"Brother Lin."
"Um?"
"Good night." Si Zhui's voice was soft, but filled with warmth.
"Good night." Lin Yan said with a smile, "Have a sweet dream."
The room fell silent. Si Zhui lay on the bed, clutching the recorder in his hand, his heart filled with something. He pressed the play button, and a familiar rustling sound came from inside, the sound of a carving knife scratching across wood, just like the sound when Lin Yan was by his side.
He closed his eyes, listened to the sound, and soon fell into a deep sleep. In his dream, he and Brother Lin were flying kites on the streets of New York. The kites flew very high, as if they were about to fly into the clouds.
The moonlight outside the window shines through the glass and falls on the boy's peaceful sleeping face, warm and beautiful.
Some concerns don't need to be constantly on your lips. Just a look, a gesture, or a good night can make people feel at ease. And Si Zhui knows that no matter where he is in the world, Lin Yan will hold his hand and accompany him to see the scenery of the world.
