Chapter 60 [VIP]
They hadn't even stayed at home for two days before school started, and their aunt helped them pack their luggage.
Looking at her two suitcases, Chenmian was overcome with sadness again: "Lin Langli packed my things when I came back. He organized all my usual belongings so neatly..."
Before he could finish speaking, Shen Ci angrily covered his mouth.
Enraged, Shenmian bit the young man's hand, leaving a tooth mark and wet saliva on Shen Ci's tiger's mouth.
"You little brat, I've been the one cleaning up after you all before, why don't you remember how good I was to you?" Shen Ci asked coldly, his tone laced with sarcasm.
Shenmian glanced at him and said coldly, "You're not dating me. My standards for you guys are different. You need to be higher." She had appeased half of Shen Ci's feelings, but the other half was in turmoil, unsure whether to laugh in anger or be completely subdued.
After packing, Chenmian reopened her suitcase to check it again and found that a necklace was missing from her jewelry box.
It was the second day after Lin Langli returned that Chen Mian begged Shen Ci to buy him a necklace of the same type but different style.
After Shen Ci paid for his bill, Shen Mian shared another message with him, but Shen Ci didn't accept it.
Later, seeing that Lin Langli was angry, she tried to win him over with small favors and offered him the necklace again, but Lin Langli refused.
Memories flooded back, and Chenmian looked at the other necklace that had been left behind, picked it up, and compared it to her neck.
Did Lin Langli take it?
I think so.
He had cleaned his room many times and knew his belongings very well.
Lin Langli must have been under control before he left, otherwise why would he have left willingly?
The father ostensibly sent him there to take care of his assistant and others, but in reality, it was just to monitor and control his life.
My dormant heart began to ache again.
He even felt that there was nothing wrong with Lin Langli taking photos and videos of him. He wasn't a very kind person, and he had done many wrong things to Lin Langli before. He and Lin Langli could be a pair of bad lovers.
Shen Ci obviously saw it too, following his gaze. Seeing Shen Mian looking distressed, he grabbed the necklace and tossed it aside: "It's an old style, what's the point of wearing it? I'll buy you a new one."
Shenmian wasn't sure if Shenci remembered that incident. She carefully observed the man's actions, which were clearly filled with anger. But when she looked up again, Shenci's expression was normal. After throwing away the necklace, he rummaged through his other things and picked out two more items, both with the excuse that they were "old".
At the start of the new semester, Shen Ci moved into Chen Mian's apartment.
The apartment that Shen Mianjun bought for Lin Langli next to Shen Mian has been renovated, but the owner will never have the chance to move in.
As soon as Shen Ci checked in, he packed up all of Lin Langli's belongings and threw them into the storage room.
He even replaced all the cat toys that Lin Langli had bought for Xiaomianbao, as if he was determined to get rid of all the old people and things.
Chenmian stayed in her room, looking at the screenshot of that message, and then tried to find out on WeChat whether her family had deleted Lin Langli's account using a money transfer.
It wasn't deleted, but there was no reaction from the other side either.
My WeChat Moments feed stopped on New Year's Eve.
This person seemed to have vanished from his life without a trace.
Since returning home, his family has never mentioned Lin Langli's name in front of him again, as if he had never existed.
Feeling that her parents were a bit heartless, Chenmian couldn't help but shed two little crocodile tears.
After returning to school, he ran into Zong Bingwen more often. The man seemed unaware of Shen Jinshan's current situation. Whenever they met, he would still smile at him kindly.
Chenmian asked Su Yueqiu what she thought and learned that even without Shen Jinshan, her parents hoped that the two of them could give it a try first.
He dared not anger or disappoint his parents again, so he pretended to agree to spend time with Zong Bingwen first.
The two had eaten together a few times. The last time, when Zong Bingwen drove him back to his residence, Shen Mian hadn't even unbuckled his seatbelt when the other man suddenly asked him, "You broke up?"
Chenmian was startled, and then the passenger side door was locked by the control panel.
He glanced at Zong Bingwen, who still had a gentle smile on his face and looked completely innocent.
"You broke up with him? Why are you still so sad?"
Shenmian gritted her teeth and looked at him, then heard Zong Bingwen politely ask, "Shenmian, don't be afraid, I just want to ask you something."
"What?"
"Can I pursue you?" He smiled enigmatically. In the dim light of the night, with the car lights off, Shenmian could only see the lower half of the man's face with the corners of his mouth slightly upturned. For a moment, she even had the feeling that he overlapped with Shen Jinshan.
He was momentarily stunned, then heard Zong Bingwen say, "No, even if you say no, I still want to pursue you."
The man's breath drew near, and Chenmian almost held her breath as Zong Bingwen pressed closer, but then she heard the sound of a pin being inserted into her ear.
Zong Bingwen didn't touch his body at all; he just unbuckled his seatbelt for him.
The man slowly sat back down, then got out of the car and went around to Chenmian's side to open the car door for him.
"Isn't this a bit presumptuous?" Zong Bingwen asked.
But as soon as he finished speaking, Chenmian glared at him fiercely, her eyes seemingly glistening with tears, and she raised her right hand slightly, as if she was suppressing the urge to hit him.
Zong Bingwen stopped laughing and immediately apologized.
Ignoring her, Chenmian got out of the car angrily and slammed the door shut.
Back home, Shen Ci had already returned from the gym and was playing with the cat in the living room.
Chenmian walked into the room without saying a word, but was hugged from behind by Chen Ci who followed her.
Shen Ci hugged him like a kitten, holding Shen Mian tightly. Shen Mian tried to pull away a few times but couldn't, so he simply turned around in the man's arms and looked up at Shen Ci's face.
Shen Ci asked, "Did you go see him?"
Chenmian frowned: "Who? Why are you asking this?"
Shen Ci stared at him for a moment, then paused before saying, "Zong Bingwen. Why is he so persistent?"
Seeing that Shen Mian kept her lips tightly closed and didn't speak, Shen Ci carefully looked at the boy in her arms and noticed his slightly red eyes. She deliberately said, "Do your parents want you two to be together? Shen Mian, do you like him? He looks a bit like Shen Jinshan."
As expected, Chenmian said, "I don't like Shen Jinshan, I hate him to death."
Chenmian set Zong Bingwen to Do Not Disturb mode and ignored him for several days.
After mid-March, the temperature rose again. I woke up on the weekend to check the weather and found that the temperature would be above 20 degrees Celsius for the next few days.
He loves to dress up, so he immediately changed into a lighter jacket and asked Shen Ci to accompany him to check out the newly opened bar that night.
Shen Ci couldn't quite tell if he was happy or what, so he walked closer and flicked his nose with his finger: "Why are you going to bars? Who led you astray?"
Sleeping, with a piece of candy in her mouth, rolled it from her left cheek to her right cheek, without answering.
He ate the candy very patiently, unlike others who would chew it up in a few crunches and finish it, but he would keep it in his mouth and change its position from time to time.
It was still early, and Chenmian was reading comics by the window. Shenci watched him from the side, seeing the sunlight shining on the boy, making even the fine hairs on his face clearly visible, as if his whole body was coated with a soft layer of light.
Shen Ci wanted to go up and take a bite.
He did indeed do that.
By the time she realized what was happening, the boy's book had already fallen to the ground. Chenmian lightly pushed against his chest with both hands, frowning as she asked, "Why did you bite me?"
Shen Ci withdrew his teeth, looked at the wet marks on Shen Mian's cheek, and said, "When you were raising Little Bread, didn't you ever feel the urge to bite the kitten?"
“…I’m not a kitten,” Chenmian retorted softly, then couldn’t help but add after a while, “You’re too close to me, it feels weird.”
But Chen Ci didn't leave. She just grabbed a tissue from the bar and used it to wipe the wet marks on the boy's face. "What kind of candy are you eating? I want some too."
Chenmian took one out of her pocket and handed it over.
Shen Ci didn't answer, her gaze fixed on the boy's rosy lips: "I don't want to eat it again, it's definitely not as sweet as the one you ate."
Shenmian glared at him, sensing that Shen Ci's words had a hidden meaning.
But just as he was about to resist Shen Ci's close physical contact, the man managed to pull away and sit back in his original position a second before Shen Mian could get angry, and even picked up the comic book on the ground for Shen Mian.
"No drinking tonight, we'll be back before midnight." After saying that, he went to make lunch.
Shen Ci wasn't actually very good at taking care of people, but when she learned that Lin Langli would cook when he was around and that his cooking skills were decent, she felt that she couldn't be outdone.
So, behind Chenmian's back, he secretly enrolled in a cooking class, striving to be a qualified partner.
For lunch, he made steamed grouper, plum-flavored spare ribs, shrimp and broccoli stew, a multigrain soup, and two bowls of sugar-free bird's nest and snow pear stew—all dishes that had earned him high marks in class.
Chen Mian ate a little of everything. Perhaps the Shen family had spoiled his palate. After finishing his meal, he neither asked Shen Ci when he had learned to cook the dishes nor offered any feedback.
Shen Ci was secretly annoyed, regretting that her cooking skills were not good enough. Just then, she saw the boy push the bowl away and go back to his room for a midday rest.
Look around.
The cat was also taken back to its bed by the slumbering one, leaving him alone to face the dining table.
He was so angry he laughed. He washed his hands and followed Chenmian back to the room, taking up half of the boy's bed ahead of time.
Chenmian came out of the bathroom and asked, "What are you doing?"
Shen Ci placed the small bread between the two of them: "I'll keep you company while you take a nap." His tone was very casual.
But Chenmian just glanced at him strangely twice, said nothing, and lay down as usual.
He slept until 5 p.m.
The sky outside was already a heavy gray, and the family of three were half asleep. Chenmian woke up first and awkwardly moved her body.
Shen Ci hugged him again without him even realizing it.
Their postures were also particularly strange at this moment.
Chenmian leaned against Chenci, who was holding him in his arms. The latter's hot breath sprayed on his neck, making the back of his neck tingle.
"Sleep..." The person behind him seemed to be calling his name in his sleep.
The unease that had been ignored during his slumber surged up again—he had called his name like that to relieve himself before the end of last year in Shen Ci's dormitory bed.
"Mianmian, Chenmian." He called out that back then, just like the two of them are now, gently whispering the name in his ear.
He got goosebumps all over his body and his scalp tingled.
A terrifying thought has emerged from the slumber.
This conjecture was quickly confirmed, as Shen Mian felt something pressing against his waist from behind, poking him proudly.
He knew this place all too well. The boy quickly recalled how many times he had fooled around with Lin Langli here.
Lin Langli had many tricks up his sleeve, and he was particularly adept at using them to coax and please him.
Sometimes a young man would emerge from under him, his lips wet, and Chenmian wouldn't dare look at him for long, hurriedly averting his gaze.
Chenmian still felt that he was a pure and good boy.
For example, right now, after noticing Shen Ci's reaction, his face turned completely red, and he didn't dare to move, afraid of waking the person behind him.
But perhaps, Shen Ci has already awakened.
