Chapter 165 Pastries

Bai Yun didn't say anything after listening to the story. Zhu Lingling became even more anxious seeing her silence.

"Do you think he is more outstanding than you or that he knew Lan Xi earlier than you?"

Just when Zhu Lingling was about to be drowned by the suffocating silence, Bai Yun slowly spoke.

What?

Zhu Lingling didn't expect Bai Yun to ask such a question. She blinked and uncontrollably thought about going in the direction Bai Yun pointed to her.

Bai Yun picked up the water on the coffee table and drank it in small sips. She didn't urge or ask any more questions. As a lawyer, she always knew how to guide others to think.

"You're so stupid!"

"You didn't notice such a huge loophole? Zhu Lingling, are you blind?"

"Why are you crying? You're so ugly!"

"Get out of here! You're incapable of accomplishing anything!"

The first thing that came to mind was Lan Xi's disdain and disgust for herself. It seemed like she always looked down on herself...

"I'm the one who's pestering her!" Zhu Lingling sat on the ground hugging her legs with a lonely look on her face. She really tried hard, but compared to Lan Xi's terrifying talent... there was always something missing.

Ding~

The crisp sound of the cup on the coffee table entered Zhu Lingling's ears, ethereal and melodious.

Zhu Lingling looked at the cup and suddenly realized that it was a crystal cup given to Lan Xi by someone. It was originally used for drinking, but Bai Yun turned it out to drink water. Under the light, the water in the cup rippled, and fine light sprinkled on the table.

"This cup is good for drinking water!" Bai Yun looked at the dazzling light on the table and said this out of the blue. She looked up at this seemingly soft but very resolute girl:

"No one says cheap water shouldn't appear in expensive cups, but seemingly cheap water can also be sold at exorbitant prices. It seems like when you encounter something related to Lan Xi, you can't help but have wild thoughts. Do you think she can see that?"

Bai Yun's words were truly insightful, and she pierced through the anxiety hidden deep within Zhu Lingling's heart:

"Is the water too cheap... or is the cup filled with the wrong amount of water?"

Buzz...

Something in her head exploded, and Zhu Lingling felt her whole body go numb...

I have always been Lan Xi's little follower, Lan Xi's slave, Lan Xi's watchdog...

No one has ever told her these things, saying that she is worthy, that she is not bad, or that she is amazing!

But avoiding Lan Xi's edge, Zhu Lingling's degree can easily beat those arrogant second-generation rich people in Shanghai, and even ranks among the best in the country.

Seeing that Zhu Lingling began to seriously consider her own value, Bai Yun stood up with a glass of water and walked past her.

Cheng Chiyan left the company exhausted. In the past two days, Sister Shen had been saying some inexplicable things to him, both explicitly and covertly. Today, he finally realized that this was a hint that he had offended someone!

After his fingerprint was identified and he walked in, he was so tired that his brain seemed to be shut down. You know, today was the most relaxing day and the earliest day to finish work. With an empty mind, he changed his shoes, walked through the corridor and turned into the living room, where he saw Zhu Lingling sitting on the carpet in a daze.

It was a very common scene, but for some reason, Cheng Chiyan stopped dead in his tracks. He looked at Zhu Lingling fiercely, as if he had suddenly been electrified. "Is it you?"

Pupils focused, Zhu Lingling turned her neck to look at Cheng Chiyan, frowning: "What did you say?"

Cheng Chiyan was still wearing makeup. Today's shoot was themed around the refreshing summer of July, and his styling and clothing made him look very youthful. However, in Zhu Lingling's eyes, everything looked girly, from his hairstyle to his eye makeup to his tender pink lips...

"Is this the job you asked the company to assign me?" Cheng Chiyan asked again patiently, although he had already confirmed it in his heart.

"Yes! With your current exposure... it would be good to take on more work!" Zhu Lingling retracted her gaze and lowered her head to continue looking through the documents.

No! That's not right!

Cheng Chiyan didn't think that was the case. He felt that Zhu Lingling simply wanted to tire him to death, but he didn't seem to have the right to blame her.

Indeed! Now is the best time for him to expand his exposure. The third recording session will be in half a week, and Sister Shen said he should make good use of this time.

The master bedroom door opened, and Lan Xi walked out. She looked listless, like a fluffy fox, having just woken up. Seeing Cheng Chiyan, she raised an eyebrow in surprise: "It's not easy! I can see you before dark!"

Seeing her like this, Cheng Chiyan avoided her gaze unnaturally. After all, he had never been in a relationship before Lan Xi.

Zhu Lingling paused as she flipped through the documents, gritted her teeth, and began to wonder if the intensity of the work assigned to Cheng Chiyan was not enough!

Stroking her hair, Lan Xi walked to the sofa. The documents on the coffee table had been divided into three categories. In the upper right corner were colorful sticky notes with project categories, directions, and feasibility listed on them!

She picked up one at random and opened it. The rustling sound made Zhu Lingling's heart tighten. She slowed down the movement of flipping through the documents and her ears perked up.

Unfortunately, Lan Xi didn't say anything. She took out two or three fruits from each pile and looked at them, then picked up the fruit plate and started eating the fruit.

Cheng Chiyan came out of the second bedroom. Since he didn't have to go to school during this period, he basically stayed at Lan Xi's house and occasionally went home for dinner.

His relationship with Lan Xi always annoyed Cheng's mother, who would complain about it every time she went back. Apart from that, Cheng's grandmother and father acted nonchalant and even asked him to bring back some things when he left.

Carrying the snacks made by Grandma Cheng to the kitchen, Cheng Chiyan gave them to Bai Yun: "Aunt Bai, see if there is anything she would eat, my grandma made it!"

Cheng Chiyan was holding a very beautiful food box, like the kind that dim sum shops in Shanghai in the last century would give to diners to take away.

The hollow frame is carved from wood, and there are faint verses of poetry written with a brush on the six inner panels. When you open the lid, you can smell a strong milky aroma.
