"Chi Yan~ Go help grandma to the table, we are about to have dinner!"
In the small kitchen, Cheng's mother was tasting the ribs made by her husband. After giving a thumbs up, she poked her head out of the kitchen.
Cheng Chiyan was staring at his phone in a daze. On the screen of his phone was the message "Happy New Year!" that he had typed.
"What are you doing? Go help grandma out, why are you just daydreaming?"
Cheng's mother's voice came from far away. She saw her son staring at the phone without responding, and thought something had happened.
Cheng Chiyan turned off the screen, put away his phone, responded, and walked towards his grandmother's room.
"Grandma! It's time for dinner!" Cheng Chiyan called softly after knocking on the door.
There was no sound from inside, so he pushed the door open and went in. Sure enough, grandma was still sleeping!
"Grandma? Grandma? It's time to eat!"
Cheng Chiyan squatted beside the bed and called gently, holding his grandmother's hand and rubbing it gently.
The old man slowly opened his eyes, heard his grandson's voice, raised his hand and touched his head:
"Okay, okay! Eat, eat!"
Cheng Chiyan helped the old woman sit up, helped her put on her shoes and coat, and helped her walk to the living room.
In the living room, Cheng's mother had already brought the dishes to the table, Cheng's father was distributing chopsticks, and a lively show was playing on TV.
From time to time, Cheng's father would repeat the conversations on TV with a smile to make his wife happy.
Cheng's mother laughed so hard that she fell back, and she reached out to push her husband. "Stop playing tricks! You're already grown up, and you're not steady at all!"
"What does making my wife happy have to do with being stable? I'll be like this in ten years!"
Father Cheng grabbed his wife's hand and shook it gently, with love in his eyes.
Grandma Cheng was helped out by Cheng Chiyan, and her smile grew wider when she saw this scene.
"Your parents are old but still act like children!" Grandma Cheng pointed at the two of them and whispered to Cheng Chiyan.
Cheng Chiyan had become accustomed to his parents showing affection in front of him all the time, and nodded in agreement.
"That's right!"
"Mom!" Seeing her mother-in-law coming out, Cheng's mother glared at her husband, shook off his hand, walked over and took her mother-in-law's arm:
"Today we have your favorite braised pork ribs!"
When Grandma Cheng heard this, her eyes lit up and she quickened her pace:
"Don't stand, sit down, sit down and eat!"
The stewed spareribs were so tender that they melted in the mouth, and the old lady ate them with gusto.
The steamed fish was very fresh and light in flavor. Cheng Chiyan reached out and picked up a piece and put it in grandma's bowl: "Grandma, this fish is delicious!"
Grandma Cheng nodded and looked at the fish in the bowl: "This fish is very rare!"
This sentence made the family of three fall silent, looking at each other!
"It's obvious that this was sent from abroad. Where did you get it from?"
Grandma Cheng glanced at the three of them with a burning gaze.
Cheng Chiyan was about to speak without thinking much.
"A friend gave it to me, Mom! Just eat it!" Cheng's father chose to conceal it before Cheng Chiyan could speak.
The old lady smiled shrewdly, put down her chopsticks, and took a deep breath:
"You're my son, I know what you're going to say just by the look in your eyes!"
She looked at her daughter-in-law. It had been half a month since she came back from the hospital, and her sallow complexion had recovered a lot:
"Why transfer to another hospital?"
Cheng's mother wanted to speak, but she saw her mother-in-law turned to look at her grandson: "When can you meet your friend?"
"Grandma..." Cheng Chiyan knew that his family wanted to hide it from his grandma. When asked this question, he looked at his father in confusion.
"Mom, it's like this. Miss Lan doesn't have time. I've asked!" Father Cheng said.
Grandma Cheng nodded in understanding, picked up her chopsticks again, and picked up the fish:
"The Miss Lan you're talking about is a graduate of Ocean University, right?"
"Yes!"
"That's all, just leave it alone, you won't see it!"
Grandma Cheng ate the fish and spoke slowly.
After the words were spoken, the room fell silent. No one spoke, and no one picked up their chopsticks.
Grandma Cheng was eating happily and ignored them. She reached out and tapped Cheng Chiyan's shoulder: "Serve the soup!"
"Hey! Good...good!" Cheng Chiyan picked up the bowl and served soup to grandma.
"Alright, alright, eat. Don't just stand there. It's New Year's Day. I'm not blaming you, but don't try to hide it from me. I'm an old lady! I'm old, not stupid!"
The old lady took the bowl and picked up the spoon, scooped a spoonful of soup into her mouth, and nodded in appreciation:
"This soup is well made, your cooking skills have improved!"
Father Cheng breathed a sigh of relief, squeezed his wife's hand, and smiled again: "I haven't made this for a long time. I hope you enjoy it."
…
Lan Qi was sent home by Lan Ting'an, and neither of them spoke on the way.
When Liu Xiyue saw the father and son coming back, she asked in surprise, "Why are you back? It's still early!"
Lan Ting'an walked in, and Lan Qi followed behind her, neither of them even looking at her.
Liu Xiyue closed the door and chased the two people inside: "What's going on? Speak!"
Lan Ting'an stood in front of the window, his emotions unrecognizable. Liu Xiyue walked up to her son and saw the redness and swelling on his face:
"What's going on? Are you in trouble?"
"Hmph!" Lan Ting'an snorted coldly, turned around and pointed at Lan Qi, furious:
"You don't know any etiquette. With so many elders here, you just refute them! Even for the sake of the elders, you should restrain yourself a little!"
"But..." Lan Qi still wanted to refute and was still not convinced.
"You're nothing! The old man doesn't think highly of you, and yet you're walking into Lan Xi's trap like a fool. You'll just die as a manager in this life!"
After saying this, Lan Ting'an raised his foot and wanted to leave.
