Chapter 48: You are so brave, you can still sleep

Chapter 48: How brave to sleep

Gu Tiezhu was pushed by Aunt Zhang and his crutches fell to the ground.

Fortunately, Liu reacted quickly and held him up, so he did not fall.

When I looked at Aunt Zhang again, she had already rushed into the yard as if no one was around, looking for someone everywhere.

"Gu Qingye! Gu Qingye!! You must come out and explain yourself to me today!"

Gu Tiezhu's face was twisted with anger, and his eyes seemed to be able to spit out poison.

"Qingye is sick. She went home and fell asleep. She can't come out to see you!"

"Get out of my house right now!!"

However, Aunt Zhang kicked open the front door as if she didn't hear anything. She glanced at Gu Lao San who was in the room, and without saying a word, she kicked open the door of the small west house.

Gu Qingye had been lying on the bed pretending to be asleep, listening to the door being kicked open.

She had to sit up slowly and pretend to have just woken up. "What's going on? Who is it?"

Aunt Zhang didn't have time to waste time and simply asked Gu Qingye why three people went into the mountains but only she came back.

Where did Gu Xixi and Chen Fang go?

Gu Qingye wanted to answer truthfully, but the next moment he saw Gu Tiezhu standing outside the door with a terrifying expression as if he wanted to eat someone.

Even Liu winked and shook her head secretly.

Gu Qingye swallowed her saliva and said what Gu Tiezhu had taught her: "We went down the mountain together."

"Sister Xixi and Brother Chen said they had something else to do, so we separated at the foot of the mountain."

Aunt Zhang frowned, "They are carrying so many mountain products. Where can they go directly if they don't put them back home first?"

Gu Qingye shook her head, and in order to hide her guilty conscience, she bravely smiled at Aunt Zhang.

"I don't know about that."

"Sister Xixi would never discuss anything with me."

When Aunt Zhang realized that she couldn’t get any more information out of them, she glared at the family warningly and left in a hurry.

The old doctor hadn't gone to bed yet, so he was waiting in the yard for Aunt Zhang to come back.

The two discussed it again and both felt that something was wrong with Gu Laosan's family, and that Gu Qingye seemed to be hiding something.

The old doctor thought for a moment and said, "If Gu Qingye lied, Xixi and Xiaochen might still be in the mountains."

"Ah?" Aunt Zhang was so distressed that tears came down her face. "Will they be frozen to death?"

The old doctor comforted Aunt Zhang, "It's only three or four hours until dawn. Xixi knows how to save herself, and Chen Fang is smart. If the two of them are together, there shouldn't be any big problems."

"Besides, it's pitch black outside and we can't go into the mountains to search. It's useless even if we rush to death."

Aunt Zhang wiped her tears and said, "What else can we do now?"

"Sleep and get enough rest." The old doctor said, "At daybreak, go to the village chief's house and ask him to mobilize the whole village to search the mountain for the man."

The old doctor's words gave Aunt Zhang peace of mind.

She nodded, "Okay, I'll listen to you!"

The moon was at its zenith, casting its silver light all over the cave.

Mu Nanzhao had just consciously gotten up from Gu Xixi's legs.

He moved to the other side, sat with his back against the wall, closed his eyes and rested, and has not said a word since then.

Gu Xixi observed Mu Nanzhao. He was still as cold and self-willed as before.

And he showed no signs of being moved or having any distracted feelings towards her.

Gu Xixi's tense nerves relaxed a little.

She knew that Mu Nanzhao was not asleep. "It's cold. If you can't sleep, let's chat."

Mu Nanzhao still closed his eyes, "Let's talk."

Gu Xixi thought about it for a moment and said with a smile, "I was just helping you to circulate blood and raise your temperature, and I was also keeping myself warm at the same time. It's not really a life-saving favor, so don't take it to heart."

Better not to remember it!

"Hmm." Mu Nanzhao snorted, and no emotion could be heard.

The eastern sky was sapphire blue.

The ringing of the bronze bell shattered the early morning dream.

Lao Qian rang the bell with all his might until the villagers gathered around in a hurry, and then he stopped.

"Gu Xixi and Mr. Chen from our village went to the back mountain yesterday and have not been found since."

"Everyone go home now, get ropes and hatchets, and follow me into the mountains to look for people!"

The villagers took action without saying a word.

Huachidu Village is backed by mountains. If someone gets lost in the mountains, the whole village will go out to look for that person. This is a customary rule passed down from generation to generation.

As Old Qian walked, he complained to Aunt Zhang, "Niece Xixi and Mr. Chen are missing. You should have told me yesterday!"

Aunt Zhang sighed, "It's my fault for being careless. I thought Xixi had other things to do."

"When they didn't come back for dinner, I felt something was wrong and ran to Gu Laosan's house to ask."

Old Qian said angrily, "Gu Lao San is such a jerk! If I find out that his family is lying, I will definitely punish them this time!"

Are you kidding? Gu Xixi was the military advisor he had met by chance, and Chen Fang was the teacher he had been looking forward to for many years and was indispensable for establishing a private school.

If anything happens to these two people, he will want to kill Gu Laosan's entire family!

When the sky was getting light, everyone in Huachidu Village who was able to go up the mountain rushed to the mountain road.

The only people missing were those from Gu Laosan's family.

When the bell rang, Liu appeared at the entrance of the village.

However, when she learned that they had to search the mountain to find Gu Xixi, she immediately pretended to be dizzy.

Mrs. Liu said that her daughter Qingye might have offended the flower god in the mountains yesterday and was frightened by Aunt Zhang at night, and since then she has had a high fever and talked nonsense.

She had stayed up all night taking care of her daughter and now felt uncomfortable all over.

At that time, everyone else was busy going home to prepare things for going into the mountains, and no one had the leisure to figure out whether what Liu said was true or false.

Liu returned to her home, and the whole family stayed indoors and started pretending to be sick.

After going up the mountain, the villagers divided into four groups to search.

Aunt Zhang and Lao Qian are in the same group. Aunt Zhang is responsible for guiding Gu Xixi on a route that she often takes.

A ray of morning light shone into the trap, and Gu Xixi opened her eyes dazedly, "Is it dawn?"

Mu Nanzhao's voice came from the other side, sounding much clearer and more powerful than last night, "You have been sleeping until now in the middle of the night, aren't you afraid of being taken away?"

After a good sleep, Gu Xixi felt much more energetic, so she jumped up and stretched her muscles.

"What are you afraid of? Unless wolves, tigers and leopards are starving, they won't be so stupid as to jump into a deep pit."

She looked at Mu Nanzhao, her smile bright in the morning light, "Besides, don't we still have you?"

Mu Nanzhao was about to speak, but suddenly he became serious and silent, listening for a moment.

"Someone is coming this way, and there are several of them."

Gu Xixi's eyes lit up, "At this time, he can only come to us!"

Mu Nanzhao raised his hand, but before he could say anything to stop her, Gu Xixi yelled at the top of her voice:

"Someone come! Help!"

"I'm Gu Xixi! Chen Fang and I are here! Help!!"

Mu Nanzhao closed his eyes with a dead heart. Okay, he had never been so embarrassed in his life.

Lao Qian let down the rope and personally pulled Gu Xixi and Mu Nanzhao up.

"Everything alright?"

Mu Nanzhao cupped his hands, "It's okay, thank you all for helping me."

Gu Xixi smiled and said, "We are not injured, we are just a little hungry."

Aunt Zhang came over with red eyes and handed over a soft-wheat pancake and a jar of water.

She knew that the two children had been hungry for a day, so she prepared food and water in advance and carried them up the mountain this morning.
