Picking maggots

Picking maggots

When I got close to Xie Li, the stench of decay mixed with the fishy smell rushed into my nose. His right eye socket was empty and lifeless, with maggots wriggling in it, and the rotten flesh on his face seemed like it would fall off at any time.

She staggered back two steps, the stench making her cover her nose.

Its nails were three inches long, and large patches of skin on the back of its hands had fallen off, revealing dark red, eroded flesh.

"Were you burned to death?" Yu Heyi covered his mouth and nose with one hand and reflexively put the other hand in front of his face.

The nails were sharp and dug deep into her arm, cutting her skin and causing blood to gush out.

Maggots wriggled between its fingers, seeping into the wound along with pus and blood, causing a stinging pain like thousands of ants gnawing at one's heart.

She frowned tightly and struggled hard to break free from its clutches, but its hands seemed to be embedded in her arm and she could not get rid of them no matter how hard she struggled.

Seeing this, Wanqi Si rushed over almost on the wind and stabbed Xie Li in the back with a sword. Yu Heyi looked down and saw the sharp tip of the sword protruding from its heart.

But not a drop of fresh blood was shed.

There is not a single piece of good meat on its body, not even a heart.

Xie Li grabbed her arm tightly and refused to let go. Even though the silver sword kept stabbing at him, he was still determined to break her arm.

"Yu Heyi, what grudge do you have against it?" Wanqi Si gritted his teeth, drew out the silver sword, and repeatedly stabbed it straight in.

Still useless, its grip showed no sign of loosening.

When Liu Ze saw that Xie Li's target was Yu Heyi, he put away his sword and hid aside to watch the fun.

It was the first time that the Yuquan Sect disciples saw Xie Li not dodge or evade the attack, as if she was determined to break her arm. For a moment, no one dared to step forward to help.

"Junior Sister!"

Xie Li stood still, and Mi Xiu quickly cast spells to attack it, alternating between the demon-slaying spell and the devil-exorcising spell, but they had no effect on it.

Pus and blood corroded her skin, and blood flowed down her arms, with large pieces of flesh being rolled up.

"Hiss." Yu Heyi's face was as pale as paper, cold sweat dripping from her forehead. She couldn't open her eyes due to the pain and almost collapsed to the ground.

The foul smell made her feel nauseous. Her lips were bloodless and had deep purple marks from biting. Her consciousness gradually became blurred in the severe pain.

"Let go!" Wanqi Si slashed at Xie Li's arm with a sword, but was unable to cut it off completely. The broken arm hung in front of her body, refusing to let go, as if it had been embedded in her arm.

Her legs finally gave way and she knelt in a pool of blood with her back against the wall.

When I looked into its eyes, I saw that its pupils were gray and without any emotion.

Even a demon shouldn't be so lifeless.

Yu Heyi stretched out his other hand, dipped it in the blood on the ground, and with trembling fingertips, he pinched his fingers to cast a spell.

But as Wanqi Si said, most of the spells she learned were useless and she couldn't even protect herself.

Before she lost consciousness, she cast a spring spell.

We can only try our best to save the situation.

I hope she can gain life like this spell.

After casting the spell, Xie Li felt a burning pain in the palm of his hand. He took a step back unwillingly, and his fingers finally loosened from the girl's arm.

Yu Heyi fell heavily to the ground and fainted.

The silver sword pierced its chest again. Wanqi Si lifted it up with great force, and Xie Li was immediately thrown out of the window and fell in the center of the valley.

Elder Guan released the monster-catching net in an attempt to tie it up tightly.

But even though it was stabbed several times by Wanqi Si, it was still not affected at all.

The moonlight shone on Xie Li, and it escaped in full view of everyone.

Everyone hurriedly chased in the direction it fled, but in the end they returned empty-handed.

Wanqi Si threw the silver sword on the table and did not chase after them. Instead, he picked up the girl lying in a pool of blood and gently placed her on the bed.

Mi Xiu also rushed over and checked her wound worriedly.

The bloodstains were shocking, and countless maggots were struggling in her wounds. The girl frowned unconsciously because of the pain and shrank her arms.

Mi Xiu cursed loudly: "What kind of people are these in Yuquan Sect? When they saw my junior sister being attacked, not a single one came to help. If we had known this would happen, we would not have come to Yuquan Sect to help. If anything happens to my junior sister, I will make Master destroy Yuquan Sect!"

"Stop yelling. You'd better use this time to pick the maggots out of her wound."

Wanqi Si frowned and glanced at him, saying in a cold voice.

Mi Xiu grabbed the tweezers, but repeatedly poked the tip of the tweezers into her flesh, causing her to curl up in pain.

"Brother, you should do it. I'm afraid of hurting Junior Sister." Mi Xiu handed the tweezers to Wanqi Si, his tone guilty, "The most urgent thing is to treat Junior Sister's wound, otherwise her arm will be useless!"

"Clumsy."

After taking the tweezers, he lowered his head slightly, lifted her arm onto his legs, half-knelt beside the bed and picked out every maggot in the wound.

His expression was cold, showing no emotion, but his actions were extremely serious.

Mi Xiu squatted beside him, holding the lamp for him.

At daybreak, all the maggots in the wound were picked out.

In the second half of the night, Mi Xiu couldn't resist the sleepiness and dozed off with the lamp in her arms, but Wanqi Si actually picked out maggots for her all night long.

After dawn, he went to Elder Guan to get the ointment and bandages, then kicked Mi Xiu awake, gave him the task of applying the ointment and bandaging, and then went back to the house to rest.

When Yu Heyi woke up, she subconsciously looked at the wound on her arm. The bandage on her arm was so ugly that she couldn't help laughing out loud.

Looking around, he only saw Mi Xiu sleeping on the bed with his eyes closed, but there was no sign of Wanqi Si.

"This Wanqi Si, I was injured so badly, and you didn't even take care of me."

She shook Mi Xiu's shoulder: "Second Brother, wake up."

"Junior Sister, are you awake?"

Mi Xiu's face was full of fatigue, and he rubbed his eyes with his left hand.

"I'm fine, don't worry. Thank you, Second Brother, for watching over me all night and bandaging my wounds. You can go back to your room and sleep. It will be more comfortable that way. You don't have to stay here."

He stood up and said dazedly, "Little Junior Sister, you have to thank Senior Brother very much. He is a guy who speaks hard but is soft-hearted."

She was stunned: "What do you mean?"

"I couldn't pick out the maggots in your wound. The tweezers kept piercing your flesh. It was Senior Brother who knelt by your bed all night, picking out the maggots one by one. Although I bandaged your wound, he also went to Elder Guan to get the plaster and bandages. I have to say, Senior Brother still cares about you very much."

Even after Mi Xiu left, Yu Heyi was still sitting on the bed, staring at the bloody tweezers on the table with a dull look in his eyes.

She had only seen Wanqi Si with a cold face all day long, holding the silver sword against her neck. She had never thought that he would actually pick out maggots for her, and spend a whole night picking them out?

Thinking back to last night, when she first saw Xie Li, Xie Li seemed to be looking at her as well.

Was it because she reported the situation to Wanqi Si and angered Xie Li, or was she Xie Li's target from the beginning last night?

The silver sword almost turned its body into a hornet's nest, but it didn't really hurt it, and couldn't even make it loosen its grip on her arm.

If she hadn't raised her hand to block her claws, her face would have been destroyed. To put it in a worse-case scenario, it might even crush her head.

She touched her cheek in fear. Nothing could happen to this body for the time being. It seemed that she could no longer participate in these things.

The matter of Xie Li had nothing to do with her. She had only two purposes for coming to Yuquan Sect this time.

Rescue Qi Sheng and steal the secret realm key from the leader of Yuquan Sect.

But the leader of Yuquan Sect is not at the sect, so we can only pray that he did not carry the key to the secret realm with him.

It just so happened that he was seriously injured, so he had a reason not to participate in the mission of capturing Xie Li. After explaining the reason to Wanqi Si and thanking him on his behalf, he could devote himself to finding the location of the secret realm.

So she jumped off the bed, almost falling, put on her boots, and walked out of the house, holding on to the wall.

"Senior Brother——"

"What?"

Wanqi Si opened the door and responded expressionlessly.

The bandage on the arm of the person in front of me was crooked, and the other hand was raised in the air, as if knocking on the door.

"The bandages Mi Xiu tied are surprisingly ugly."

"Brother, I heard you spent the whole night picking out maggots for me."

"Who said that?"

"Second Brother told me."

"He lied to you. I don't have the time for that."

She went into his room, sat at the table, and drank the hot tea on the table. "Well, maybe the maggots in the wound thought my meat was too unpalatable and ran away overnight."

"That's my tea, Yu Heyi."

"It's all the same."

There was a smile in her eyes, and a crescent-shaped curve appeared at the corners of her eyes.

"You better have something to ask me."

"Of course I have something to say." Her eyes sparkled. "I came here to thank you."

Seeing the other party remain silent, she lowered her head: "Okay, actually I also want to talk to you about Xie Li."

"You saw it too. You poked it like a hornet's nest yesterday, but it didn't seem to be hurt at all. So, you can conclude that it's not afraid of these injuries."

"Say something useful."

"Before I passed out, I desperately cast the Spring Rebirth Spell, and it finally let go of my arm. It seems that as a half-demon, half-demon, it might be afraid of 'life'."

He pressed his thin lips into a straight line and nodded thoughtfully.

"I just came to remind you, worried that you might be clueless about capturing Xie Li. After all, I'm so badly injured that I can't participate in the mission." She said softly, "Brother, you've worked so hard picking maggots for me all night. Remember to get some rest during the day."

Without waiting for his answer, she opened the door and left.

He looked at the empty teacup on the table, his expression unclear.

Yu Heyi had just taken a few steps when he bumped into a man head-on.

Her arm was wrapped in bandages and hung at her side, and she was caught off guard by the man's elbow.

A hint of dark red shone through the gauze, and the pain made her take two steps back, her face turning pale.

"I'm sorry..." The man took a half step back, his Adam's apple rolled, and his eyes fell uncontrollably on her arm. "Fairy, are you hurt? Let me help you back."

He recognized her as the person whose arm Xie Li had grabbed yesterday, and hurriedly helped her up.

She shook her head and pushed away his outstretched hand: "No need."

But he was extremely enthusiastic and escorted her all the way to the door.

"Why have you been following me?"

"As the old saying goes, 'No friendship without fighting.' Our encounter has sealed our fate. So, escorting the fairy back to her house is only natural!"

"Then you can leave now." Yu Heyi said ruthlessly.

He watched the door close and suddenly reached out to stop it. "That collision just now really shattered my soul. How about I treat you to a meal later to make amends?"

Yu Heyi shook his head and refused, closing the door without mercy.

The man froze in place, and before he could even pull back the smile on his face, he muttered, "What a lack of romantic understanding."

When I was about to leave, the door was opened again.

The girl stuck her head out and looked at him with interest:

"Are you a disciple of Yuquan Sect?"
