Chapter 26: Kowtow and Admit Mistake
"The shopkeeper."
Bai Xiaoxiao recognized the owner of the inn at the first sight. She pulled Kui Ming over and asked, "Why are you here?"
The shopkeeper's eyes were filled with excitement and joy, and his voice was trembling: "My daughter...my daughter is awake!"
Guanyi.
A girl in a coarse grey dress was half leaning against the head of the bed. Her face was so thin that one could see her cheekbones under her eye sockets. Her skin was still wrinkled and rough like old tree bark, but her eyes were weak but calm, no longer as empty and lifeless as before.
"Nannan, our benefactor is here!"
The shop owner excitedly quoted it to the girl.
The girl's eyes moved, but she didn't say much.
Bai Xiaoxiao sat on the edge of the bed, gathered spiritual energy, and lightly touched her brow with her fingertips. A faint light green halo flowed into the girl's body, relieving her tension and fatigue. When she opened her eyes again, the girl looked much clearer.
“Thank you, thank you…”
The voice was incredibly hoarse.
Bai Xiaoxiao comforted her: "It's okay, it's okay now. I came here to ask you, do you know how you became abnormal?"
The girl in the gray skirt shook her head: "I don't remember. I just remember going out to buy some groceries. After I came back, I didn't remember anything."
Bai Xiaoxiao nodded, pondered for a moment, and then asked, "Then... do you know about the missing persons case in Wuzhen Town?" She took out the silk handkerchief from her arms and handed it to her, "And this handkerchief, do you know who it belongs to?"
The girl in the gray skirt lowered her eyes to look at the unfolded handkerchief. Her pupils suddenly contracted for a moment, and her lips couldn't help but tremble. "Qinghua... This is Sister Qinghua's handkerchief, it's Sister Qinghua's handkerchief..."
Bai Xiaoxiao hurriedly asked, "Who is Sister Qinghua?"
The girl in the gray skirt choked up, "Sister Qinghua is my best friend. We grew up together and are as close as sisters. She is beautiful, gentle, and her needlework is exquisite. Many young men in the town like her, but... but..."
She lowered her head, tears streaming down her cheeks: "But she was harmed by that bastard..."
Bai Xiaoxiao had a suspicion in her mind, and she asked tentatively, "Is that bastard you're talking about... Mr. Wu from town?"
The girl in the gray skirt gripped the quilt tighter. "It was him. I saw it myself. He kept harassing Sister Qinghua, even physically assaulting her. Sister Qinghua refused countless times, but it was all in vain. Later, Sister Qinghua mysteriously disappeared, and her family couldn't find her. Even when they reported her to the government, someone named Wu blocked their way."
Bai Xiaoxiao understood a little better: "Then, did another girl disappear afterwards?"
The girl in the gray dress nodded. "Yes, and then a few more girls disappeared. But because it had been so long and there weren't enough leads, the cases were quickly dropped."
Bai Xiaoxiao went up to cover her with a blanket, gave her a few words of advice, and let her have a good rest.
Close the door.
As soon as she raised her eyes, she saw Kui Ming waiting.
When Kui Ming saw Bai Xiaoxiao coming out, he immediately came to her side, looked her up and down to make sure she was safe, and his expression gradually relaxed as if he breathed a sigh of relief.
"I'm fine, don't worry." Bai Xiaoxiao comforted him. "We've asked almost all the questions. The rest is up to us to solve."
Kui Ming asked: "What do you want to do?"
Bai Xiaoxiao snorted softly, her moist almond-shaped eyes revealing a hint of anger and coldness: "Of course... whoever commits the sin will bear the consequences."
Wu Mansion.
Mr. Wu was sitting on the bed, holding a cup of hot tea and covered with a quilt. He was wrapped up like a dumpling and shivering.
"Master? Master?"
The servant who served him had no idea what was going on. The masters from Wuliang Sect took their disciples to catch ghosts, and nothing was left behind except a yellow talisman with cinnabar patterns written on it.
But this yellow talisman didn't seem to be very effective. Mr. Wu was still trembling, as if he had seen some evil spirit or was possessed by a ghost.
"Master, are you looking for someone to accompany you tonight?"
The servant asked as usual, but Master Wu did not answer him.
The servant's eyes rolled around, and he raised his hand to wave. A beautifully dressed maid beside him strode lightly to Master Wu. But as soon as she leaned forward, Master Wu wrapped himself up even tighter, as if he had seen a ghost. "Don't! Don't come over here! It's not my fault! It's not my fault. If you need help, find someone else, don't come to me!"
The servant and the maid were startled.
Bai Xiaoxiao kicked in at this moment, and her eyes swept around and fell on the trembling "meat dumpling". She raised her hand and lifted the cotton silk quilt, revealing the ball inside that was almost shrunk into a quail.
She smiled and said, "Master Wu, let's tremble somewhere else."
Mass grave.
The mass grave seemed even more chilling at night.
The overlapping branches are baring their fangs and claws, like evil spirits climbing up from hell.
Mr. Wu collapsed on the ground, surrounded by corpses with pale skin, shouting "Ah, my God!"
Bai Xiaoxiao suddenly felt a sense of disdain, thinking, "Look at you, you haven't seen the world yet."
"Two, two little fairies, I, I, I don't know... I don't know..." Mr. Wu was so incoherent that he didn't know what to say.
"Can't figure it out, huh?"
Bai Xiaoxiao kindly answered for him, "It's okay. I'll give you a hint—Qinghua, do you know this girl?"
Master Wu's voice was still trembling: "Green flowers? Green, green what flowers? I, I know green peppers and cauliflower."
Bai Xiaoxiao was so angry that she laughed. "You still have the mind to joke at this time?" She kicked Master Wu's round belly, then took out the silk handkerchief from her sleeve and threw it in his face. "Think about it, Qinghua, a girl, a beautiful and gentle girl who used to live a good life."
Mr. Wu was startled by her suddenly raised voice.
He picked up the handkerchief and examined it carefully, then suddenly remembered something. "The blue and white porcelain you're talking about is the kind used in Wuxiang Town to make a living by selling wreaths?"
"You remember?"
"I didn't kill her! She was so depressed that she banged her head against the wall to commit suicide. I offered her money, and it's not that I didn't try to stop her, but I didn't. You can't blame me for this... Ah!"
The screams like those of a pig being slaughtered seemed creepy and a bit funny in the mass grave.
Bai Xiaoxiao felt that the kick was too light, so why didn't it kill the person?
"You're so right. Don't think I don't know the dirty thoughts in your heart. She was living a good life, but you, an ungrateful beast, ruined it. Don't blame you? Are you a eunuch?"
"I……"
Mr. Wu's face turned the color of liver.
Bai Xiaoxiao pointed to the ground and said, "Kowtow, kowtow here honestly. When you are forgiven, you can stand up again."
Mr. Wu wanted to refute.
Kui Ming took a step forward, his gloomy eyes swept across indifferently.
Mr. Wu immediately kowtowed profusely: "I was wrong! I'm sorry! I was wrong! I really know I was wrong!"
